This is a mono-black vampire deck that focuses on synergistic vampire bonuses (i.e. ones that heighten power or defense, offer lifegain, give my vampire creatures flying) to create an army of vampires that become seemingly overwhelming. Consistently gold-fishes turn 6.
To me, the all-star here is obviously Vampire Nocturnus. My deck was originally black/red, but I felt this only diluted Vampire Nocturnus's effect. With mono-black, he is almost always carrying out his ability (with the exception of the two artifact cards and lands). I have almost never lost once Vampire Nocturnus comes out.
Gatekeeper of Malakir
, Anowon, the Ruin Sage, Slaughter Pact, and Go for the Throat are all very effective at keeping your opponent's offense to a minimum.
Bloodghast helps to keep the board a bit populated before
Bloodline Keeper
enters the field. Creature removal aimed at my own creatures is taken care of by having
Blade of the Bloodchief
, which causes my opponent to make a choice about whether or not he/she truly wants to power up one of my other vampires.
Vampire Nighthawk,
Blood Tribute
, and Malakir Bloodwitch are all great life savers (no pun intended) that really are great life-gainers and game changers!
Duress, Thoughtseize and Pithing Needle effectively take care of non-creature threats.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
NOTE: When looking at the mana curve, consider
Gatekeeper of Malakir
to have a CMC of three, as I never play him without paying his kicker cost. Additionally, you may consider Slaughter Pact to also have a CMC of three as ultimately that is the cost that must be paid.
