6/11/2019 - Completely revamped for Pioneer - original deck was built for Frontier in Tokyo.
This deck was originally built for the Frontier format developed in Tokyo in response to WotC's experiment with a fast Standard rotation. When Pioneer was officially announced, I revamped the deck and added some newer cards.
Card Choices:
Fevered Visions - centerpiece of the deck. We don't want to win just with this - it's meant to be a hard place we can push our opponent up against. Fevered Visions is a really weird card - it lets you draw cards, which is normally good! But it keeps filling your hand, and then it starts to damage you. And it's always just there, and most decks don't maindeck ways to deal with it.
Sprite Dragon - the rock to the Fevered Visions hard place. Haste makes it good at any point in the game.
Unsubstantiate, Brazen Borrower - we want to keep our opponent's hand as full as possible to keep Fevered Visions hurting them.
Lightning Strike, Bonecrusher Giant - removal and burn - this isn't a dedicated burn deck, but we still want a lot of spells that can deal damage to the opponent directly.
Izzet Charm, Censor - a little bit of countermagic that doubles as card draw to make sure we always have something to do with our mana.
Opt - ya gotta have some Opts.
Wandering Fumarole - Fevered Visions really isn't enough on its own, so we want a full playset of Fumaroles to make sure we always, always have a creature to finish the game.
Sideboard:
Fevered Visions is weakest against aggro decks that empty their hand in a few turns, so our sideboard strategy is primarily to convert into a burn-based control deck.
Original notes below:
Built for Hareruya's new Frontier format (M15 to present).
The deck mixes hard or impossible to block creatures with direct damage to wear the opponent down.
Unfortunately, the deck is kind of stuck between being a grindy control deck (Fevered Visions and Thermo-Alchemist) and a fast tempo deck (Dissipate and Stormchaser Mage). There are a few directions the deck could go. I'd like to try to make the deck more robust by adding more land and including something like Sarkhan the Dragonspeaker - Harnessed Lightning/Confiscation Coup would also be super fun with Fevered Visions. Tormenting Voice/Fiery Temper would also work really well with these creatures.
10/15 - This deck went 2-1 at Big Magic's Frontier event; 18 people participated. It went 2-1 against Esper control, 1-2 against Jeskai Artifacts, and 2-0 against Elf tribal.
