Uril's Gon' Give It To Ya

Commander / EDH

Here's my take on a Uril, the Miststalker Commander deck. As with most other Uril decks, the point is to buff him up until he can deal 21 commander damage to your opponent. Here's a breakdown of all the nonland cards;

--Enchantment-Based Cards--

Verduran Enchantress, Argothian Enchantress, Mesa Enchantress, Enchantress's Presence, Eidolon of Blossoms: All make me draw cards for every enchantment I play, which is important because with all the ramp, I'll need to keep my hand stocked. Also helpful for finding specific cards I need.

Ethereal Armor: Gives Uril +1/+1 for each enchantment I own, and first strike. Great one-drop aura, super handy for its cost.

Sterling Grove: Gives my other enchantments Shroud, and lets me tutor for one if I sac it. All for two mana.

Hero of Iroas : Makes my Auras cost less, and saving mana saves time. For me, at least.

Sage's Reverie : Makes Uril bigger for every Aura I have, and gives me card draw for them, too. Double win!

Sphere of Safety: Makes my opponents have to pay to attack me. Usually it will be a hefty price.

Retether: If you kill me (Uril), I shall return, stronger than you can even imagine. But seriously, fantastic fit graveyard recursion, which is hard in these colors.

Three Dreams: One card for 3 enchantments of my choice? That sounds like an auto-include.

Open the Armory: 2 mana for an enchantment or equipment. Definitely useful for finding the anything I might need to seal the game.

--Protection--

Privileged Position: Gives Hexproof to all my stuff, including and especially Uril's auras. Similar to Sterling Grove, although Hexproof is better than Shroud.

Indestructibility: Pretty self explanatory. Useful for Uril especially.

Darksteel Plate: Once again, self explanatory. Useful for combat, board wipes, whatever may come up.

Holy Mantle, Spirit Mantle, Unquestioned Authority: All do various things in addition to giving protection from creatures. Makes Uril unblockable and, therefore, infinitely powerful (not literally, of course).

Gift of Immortality: Recursion, recursion, recursion. Also replaces itself, which is great.

Dust Corona : It's like anti-reach. Protection from flyers is fantastic and hard to come by.

Whispersilk Cloak: Not 100% on this one, but the unblockable is hard to beat.

Boros Charm: Temporary Indestructible makes people salty, and I like making my friends salty.

Mark of Asylum : Kind of a niche thing, but one can't be too careful when cards like Blasphemous Act exist.

Shield of the Oversoul: Indestructibility is so important that it's a big part of the deck.

Apostle's Blessing: Instant-speed protection from just about anything, not counting Eldrazi.

--Ramp--

Rampant Growth , Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Explosive Vegetation, Sylvan Scrying, Burnished Hart, Armillary Sphere: All included to pull lands out of the deck and facilitate their playing, either by dropping them on the field or putting them in your hand. This helps two-fold; obviously, more lands means more mana, and more land drops means less land draws, which are the worst kind of draws later in the game when you're close to finishing off your opponent. Also includes the fetch lands, but I don't feel like listing them is necessary.

Trace of Abundance , Utopia Sprawl , Fertile Ground: Make my lands produce more mana, while triggering the enchantment-based creatures and effects.

Arbor Elf: Useful for untapping forests that I've enchanted with mana-increasing auras. Or just any old forest if I don't have any enchanted yet.

Sol Ring: No explanation needed. Should be an auto-include in every Commander deck.

Sylvan Caryatid, Llanowar Elves, Birds of Paradise: Creatures that tap for mana. Pretty straightforward.

Darksteel Ingot: Makes any color we could possibly need. Just more mana for things. All the things.

Now comes the fun section: Buffs. I'll break it down by what card gives what buff, so some of them might be in more than one category. All the plusses are going to not be counting Uril's inherent bonus.

--Trample--

Armadillo Cloak: +2/+2, Trample, and not-technically-Lifelink, all for 3 mana. Value.

Gaea's Embrace: +3/+3, Trample, and Regeneration? Hells yeah!

Gigantiform: Effectively +3/+3 and Trample for Uril, or turns one of my mana or enchantment creatures into a threat if need be. It's a shame I can never use it's kicker ability, but oh well.

Messenger's Speed : One red for Haste and Trample? Seems like a good deal to me.

Rancor: +2/+0, Trample, and it returns to my hand if Uril dies? I wish more Auras were like this!

Unflinching Courage : Basically Armadillo Cloak, but with honest-to-goodness Lifelink. Always good to have multiple copies of the same thing.

Runes of the Deus : A little on the expensive side, but (at least) 13 more damage with trample is a game changer. You only need this and one other enchantment (without blockers) to do lethal Commander damage.

Archetype of Aggression : Gives everything I own Trample, and removes it from my enemy's creatures. Winning!

Nylea, God of the Hunt: Gives all my other creatures Trample, and I shouldn't have a hard time hitting devotion, so she'll likely be a good blocker as well.

Haunted Cloak: I didn't want to go too heavily into equipments, but the Cloak is just too good. Trample, Haste, and Vigilance for 1 equip cost is real value.

--Double Strike--

Assault Strobe : Double damage, pure and simple.

Temur Battle Rage: Double Strike, and Trample if I cast it on Uril. Can't beat that for 2 mana.

Boros Charm: Another one of the many uses for this spell.

Savage Beating: 5 mana for Double Strike for all my creatures, or 7 for Double Strike and another combat phase (or 5 mana if Uril already hasent Double Strike). Will likely be a game winning card.

Runes of the Deus : Same as the Trample entry above. Can change a game from 'Close' to 'Over' with one combat phase.

--Lifelink--

Daybreak Coronet

Armadillo Cloak

Unflinching Courage

Basilisk Collar

--First Strike--

Ethereal Armor

Daybreak Coronet

Hyena Umbra

--Deathtouch--

Basilisk Collar

Bow of Nylea

--Vigilance--

Daybreak Coronet: One of the many fantastic things about this aura.

Haunted Cloak: Another reason to include this card.
