A budget Jund deck? Wait, delve? And TRON??? Let's take a look at what makes this abomination so unholy.
THE BEATERS
Wurmcoil Engine is a 6/6 for 6 (I know, it's a satanic card) that nets life, trades with any creature, and then becomes two 3/3 creatures that also net life and trade with any creature. Blatantly overpowered and no fun to play against. I love it.
Gurmag Angler is what makes this deck so unique. Tron fills its graveyard rather quickly. Between all the search and dig, you can frequently plop down a 5/5 body on T4 using only 1-2 mana. Because of the delve cost you often play your T4 dig spells and then use the leftover mana + the graveyard fodder you just created to cast this monstrosity for 1-2 mana. What the angler offers is a backup plan if we can't get tron online (Ghost Quarter, Blood Moon, Stone Rain etc). If we take a while to assemble tron it doesn't mean we are screwed, because we can still have a couple fatties to keep us safe while we dig. Worst case scenario you can even win with them. a 5/5 beater is still a 4 turn clock beater.
Tasigur, the Golden Fang is a one drop legendary black Tarmogoyf. If that wasn't reason enough to run him, he also can bring back Pyroclasms and
Firespout
s, which other cards can't.
Sibsig Muckdraggers can help you shape your graveyard for Tasigur, but also provides a sizeable wall of a body. The muckgraggers are never outstanding, and I'd never consider playing more than one copy, but I'm also never unhappy to draw them.
SEARCH AND DIG
Mulch
can draw us multiple cards and get the tron lands we need. And what we don't need goes to the delve creatures.
Expedition Map adds for angler but more importantly is a way to get out any land we need. Pull our a Buried Ruin late game or a tron piece. Do whatever. Go for it. Utility is the name of the game.
Satyr Wayfinder aka
Mulch
satyr is both a chump blocker and an impule that can nab our missing tron pieces. And fills the graveyard like nobody's business
STALL AND CONTROL
Pyroclasm keeps the board clear of small aggressive creatures than will beat us to death before we land our fatties. Delver of Secrets
and
Insectile Aberration
both die to it, as do any number of cheap artifact creatures. Oh yeah, and tokens. That's always good.
Firespout
is a larger pyroclasm, for when x/3 creatures prove the biggest threat.
MANA FIXING
Prophetic Prism, a staple of pauper tron, is both a cantrip and a mana fixer. While it does not accelerate our mana, it makes sure we can cast a T3-4 Angler, or makes sure that our
Firespout
can hit both flying and nonflying creatures.
I almost put them under dig, but Chromatic Sphere and Chromatic Star really are mana fixers. Both serve as early mana fixing to allow T2
Mulch
s but also digs deeper into our library for what we need while simultaneously filling our graveyard. They make excellent early game plays, and late game they cycle.
THE LANDS
Llanowar Wastes, Sulfurous Springs, and Karplusan Forest all tap for colorless, or can give us the colored mana we need at a very reasonable price
Buried Ruin subtle utility. It can return a used Expedition Map to your hand if you need to reassemble tron for some reason. It can send that Sundering Titan you flipped T2 with
Mulch
back to a position where it is a threat. Or it can just send a Wurmcoil Engine back to join its 3/3 token spawn.
Forests provide a less painful source of our most used color.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST
Urza's Mine
combos with Urza's Tower and Urza's Power Plant to generate tons of mana. Literal tons. Like 2000 lb of mana. It's great.
Anyway, that about wraps it up! Let me know what you think, and s/o to the guy on MTGO who ran a pauper deck similar to this for a day. This deck is based on that one.
