Here's how it works: We set up for (hopefully) winning with Vedalken Archmage by ramping and drawing some cards, then slamming Vedalken Archmage and draw through a huge chunk of our deck with so many artifacts and spells like Thoughtcast and Retract. After we draw through enough cards, we will most likely find the Disciple of the Vault + Time Sieve combo.

As far as our sideboard, we have a transformational sideboard featuring Blightsteel Colossus + Master Transmuter against matchups where Vedalken Archmage wouldn't work out. For the rest of our sideboard, we have Lightning Greaves against removal heavy decks and to support our transformational sideboard plan. Hurkyl's Recall is for artifact decks like affinity and KCI, Sorcerous Spyglass as a catch-all, Relic of Progenitus for graveyards, and Thoughtseize against opposing combo decks.
