--AS OF THE PLANESWALKER LEGENDARY RULE CHANGE, THIS DECK IS OFFICIALLY NO LONGER "BUDGET"--

Wait For It... [Captain Sisay Budget-ish EDH]

Overview

Wait For It... is a budget-ish Captain Sisay EDH toolbox deck. It's designed to be competitive but still fair in a casual setting. The idea is simple -- Mana ramp as fast as you can, and use Captain Sisay to tutor out specific legendaries that you need for any given situation.

This deck is very good at winning through a war of attrition. If you make the right moves at the right times, it can be extremely difficult for your opponents to deal with the massive board state, hand advantage, and mana base that this deck is capable of quickly amassing. With answers to nearly any problem and multiple win conditions by the endgame, this meager build is more than capable of netting you those sweet wins.

Win Conditions

The easiest wincon is simply overwhelming your opponent. This can most often be achieved using Odric, Lunarch Marshal, Sigarda, Heron's Grace, and Avacyn, Angel of Hope to give all your creatures Flying, Hexproof, and Indestructible during combat. Combine that with party boosts from Heroes' Podium and Day of Destiny , as well as support Dragonlord Dromoka or Dosan the Falling Leaf to prevent shenanigans and ensure a quick and easy show of dominance.

If you get into a tough spot late in the game and you've ramped to 12 mana or more, you can also tutor infinite turns if you're playing 1v1 or are one of the last two players left in a multiplayer match. Make sure you have Bow of Nylea on the field before your turn starts, then cast Mindslaver for six and immediately sac it for four to take control of your opponent's next turn. Use your last two mana to tap Bow of Nylea and shuffle Mindslaver back into your library. Take your opponent's next turn for them by simply tapping them out and passing (or casting and attacking in stupid and funny ways.) Then on your next turn, tap Captain Sisay to search Mindslaver and repeat the process ad nauseam.

If you're worried your opponent may have artifact or enchantment removal in their hand and you're afraid to leave Bow of Nylea out for a full turn before turning the combo, the entire process can be completed in one turn with thirteen mana and a slight reordering of the steps. Cast Bow of Nylea for three mana, cast Mindslaver or six, and then pay the four to sac it and take your opponent's next turn. Tap them out and pass. On your next turn, pay two and tap Bow of Nylea to return Mindslaver to the bottom of your deck, then tap Captain Sisay to return it to your hand. Use ten mana to cast and sac the card, and then repeat the process until they give up.

Keep in mind, this infinite is possible with two opponents left in the game, it's just a bit harder to pull off. You'll likely need Zendikar Resurgent on your field, as the combo costs at least 22 mana in this iteration. Proceed as you would have in the previous steps until you have Bow of Nylea and Zendikar Resurgent on your field. Cast and sac Mindslaver for ten mana and take control of opponent A's next turn. Pay two and tap Bow of Nylea to shuffle it back into your deck. Tap Captain Sisay to search for Mindslaver, and then tap ten to cast and sac it again, this time electing to control opponent B's next turn. Once you've tapped each of them out, repeat the process on your next turn. While very mana intensive, this method can be a nice surprise attack against opponents who don't expect you to be able to initiate the infinite as long as they're both still alive. It's also very possible by turn 7 or 8, assuming ample ramp and Zendikar Resurgent is in play.

Final Thoughts

This deck started as an exercise to see if I could create a fun Sisay build that also played decently well in a casual setting at $100 or less. Having already owned a few of the cards (Thalia, Trostani, the lands, a couple others) I was able to price the deck at $70 on TCGplayer, which I was very happy with. I've since picked up a few singles that have pushed the price over $100 and replaced Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, Ugin's Nexus, and Chorus of the Conclave with Dragonlord Dromoka, Karametra, God of Harvests, and Lightning Greaves. If you'd like to go with the more budget option, the former three still work fine in the deck and keep it below the $100 threshold. If you don't mind spending a few dollars extra, these three additions make the deck all that much better.

After opening a masterpiece Lightning Greaves in my very first Kaladesh booster, I traded it in and picked up Avacyn, Angel of Hope with my store credit. Her addition definitely puts this deck on thefringes of "budget," hence the addition of -ish into the title. The deck is still great without her, but she adds another win condition into the mix for sure.

Any suggestions on more budget legends I could add would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
