Fox tribal is here! But this deck is so much more than that. While this deck is mainly a tribal deck, it is stacked with subthemes to get full value out of some really, really stupid cards that I found. While there are some incredible cards, they are used in dumb ways to pull off some mediocre value. Yeah, you probably won't win, but it will be fun.

The deck itself is really just fox tribal. Kindred Boon, Konda's Banner, Vanquisher's Banner, and Unclaimed Territory are really only the real 'tribal' cards, but there is a surprising amount of synergy between foxes! Just a quick look at the foxes thrown around you will quickly see that you and your creatures will not take damage, and if some does break through it will be barely anything. Foxes excel at preventing damage. One cool synergy between two specific cards that I found is between Opal-Eye and Kitsune Healer. Take any source of damage coming your way and tap Opal-Eye to take the damage instead. But don't worry! Opal-Eye won't die, as if you tap Kitsune Healer, Opal-Eye will take no damage this turn. Essentially you can fully disable any creature (or damage-based board wipe/removal... looking at you Blasphemous Act).

Why isn't this deck full on fox tribal though? In my personal collection I have many other powerful tribal cards, but foxes aren't about power. They are about making flashy, yet mediocre plays to powerfully do nothing! That's why I through a whole bunch of subthemes in this deck to embrace the power of mediocrity!

Now, what are those subthemes I've been talking about? First off, probably the strongest subtheme is activated abilities. With Zirda, you will be able to equip almost everything for a single mana! But it's not just equipment to get that gets you some great value. With cards like Arcane Encyclopedia or Investigator's Journal you'll be drawing a bunch of cards! Thaumatic Compass will keep your lands consistent, Kindred Boon will protect all of your incredibly valuable foxes, and using Sunhome Fortress will give them an extra punch! Do more for less mana, and out value your opponents.

Now that you've gotten a small taste of a decent subtheme, what else is the deck trying to do? The answer to that question is draw cards! If there were some more powerhouse cards in this deck, this subtheme would be much stronger, but the payoffs for drawing cards in Boros was based around trying to activate a single card. Kitsune Bonesetter. If you have more cards than each opponent, you can tap Bonesetter to prevent 3 damage to a target creature! It's so bad and I absolutely love it. I guess you also have Kitsune Loreweaver to create a huge butt (for only 1 mana!), but it's not as much fun as doing something as stupid as trying to prevent 3 damage with a ridiculous condition.

So you're activating abilities and drawing a bunch of cards, what else are you doing? Well, you're playing Instants! I put 15 Instants in this deck for a single purpose. To storm out Wing Shards in Boros! It's dumb, but it will definitely be a surprise to any opponent who dares to bring an attacking force into you. All your card draws and mana rocks should help you with this one time crazy defense mechanism, causing your opponent to sacrifice their entire board. And it will be worth it to pull that off.

Finally, the last subtheme is just pillowforting. You have the preventing damage of foxes, Teferi's Protection, and control in Instants to let you survive until you can somehow find a way to get a win.

The only win-con is to get out Cathar's Crusade and hope to slowly wear down your opponents until you can squeak out a win, but don't expect much. This deck isn't about winning, it's about trying to pull off some of the worst combos and value engines that exist in Magic. So grab your fox buddies and have fun playing this mess of a deck!
