This deck uses Mass Polymorph to quickly play several of the deck's five Legendary Wizards (Melek, Izzet Paragon, Mercurial Chemister, Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius, Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind & Talrand, Sky Summoner), as well as several creatures who synergize with instant/sorceries (Goblin Electromancer, Young Pyromancer and the deck's most reliable damage engine, Guttersnipe ). Token generation mechanisms ( Molten Birth , Young Pyromancer & Talrand, Sky Summoner), ensure that the creatures being exiled by Mass Polymorph are numerous and far less valuable than the deck's summon cards which will be put into play.

Aside from those creatures, the rest of the non-land cards in the deck are all instants and sorceries, and generally intended to stop the opponent from being able to mount any sort of effective attack before this deck is able to cast Mass Polymorph . Eleven of the instants and sorceries in the deck also allow an extra card to be drawn whenever they're cast, and eight cards have "Scry 2", ensuring that there's always a useful instant or sorcery to be cast.
