Done some major tweaking, and bringing this to a $2K open this weekend, haven't gotten much feedback in a while, if anyone see's anything I'm missing please let me know!
EVEN MORE TWEAKING DONE! September 4th, deck is close to ready for The 7th I think!
The worst matchup for My NEW Aristocrats deck. has been B/W/R midrange and control decks, but even more the former. So I decided to build my own take on the archetype. It is nearly Rotation Friendly other then the Cavern of Souls, Blasphemous Act and the support lands. I'm not a fan nor do I agree with making post rotation decks, since we have no clue what kind of new help will come to fill those slots!!
All the creatures in this style of deck are all huge bombs with the exception of High Priest of Penance which does a great job alongside of Boros Reckoner slowing down any deck that's trying be the aggressor. Nobody wants to trade their biggest threat for our little 1/1 body. He can also be combo fodder alongside Boros Reckoner once again being hit with Blasphemous Act and taking out any of their non-creature threats.
A plethora of removal will aid us in allowing these bombs of creatures to make their way through to the opponents face.
Underworld Connections gives a bit of drawing power in a deck that otherwise is really only lacking in that department.
I've done a bunch of updating since I first built it a week or so ago. Had a 3rd place finish at FNM which is solid but I always aim for first and it definitely could have been.
I'm not too sure how the control match up plays out as I haven't had the opportunity to play a control deck yet, but between our draw, Assemble the Legion,
Rakdos's Return
and some annoying sideboard cards I'm confident that the deck can hold it's own!
Update: I've played against some control and it's one of the tougher matches for sure. Definitely tweaking the sideboard to go more against control as aggro and midrange are much easier match ups.
Speaking of the sideboard:
Boros Charm - great against supreme verdict or removal heavy decks, or it's other abilities could find use in different situations
Sin Collector New addition to the SB, as I'm really going anti control. 4 of this guy plus a playset of the Duress and the Sire alongside a couple Charms and another
Rakdos's Return
will help in that match up!
Duress - Brought in against control or any deck with non-creature threats in game 2 and 3.
Pithing Needle - Can be brought in against pesky land and planeswalker's but also for AEtherling.
Sire Of Insanity - Again for the control match up, if he can come out via the main board Cavern of Souls a lot of control decks are pretty much toast.
Wear / Tear Also comes in against Hexproof decks, but also great against opposing Assemble the Legion,
Burning Earth
, and things of that variety.
As you can see in the updates the only loss I took was to a net-decked Big Red that I should have beaten (land screw happens) so I've added another land as well.
If you have any advice, constructive criticism or the like feel free to let me know! Don't be shy to hook it up with a +1 if you're down with winning!! Cheers...
