When control gets aggressive U/W style

Modern Competitive Control Midrange WU (Azorius)

darklegionaire

Sideboard

So I've been playing around with control in modern for the last few months however with the introduction of grixis and the apperence of chokes in sideboards for alot of green decks at my local store i've found my old esper deck lacking enough power to finish the job. As such i'm throwing around the idea of azorius control with midrange aspects as a way of getting the job done.

So the deck attempts to lul the opponent into a false sense of security by playing like anyother control deck using 13 counters including spell snare and cryptic, along with board wipes and paths to exile in order to drop ojutai, geist of sun titan and overrun the board extremely quickly.

The reason i chose these creatures were because geist and ojutai protect themselves on the turn you play them allowing you to get your counter magic ready to protect them from the next turn. The reason i like sun titan is because the return effect gives clique and snapcaster even more value and it can even return geist which is already extremely hard to deal with.

Would love to get any comments or advice on the decks as it is still very much a work in progress.

So I took this to my weekly modern competition at my local Good games and went 1-0-3

First round was against a jund midrange deck, this was the first draw of the night. The first game was fairly easy I managed to keep the board clear and eventually dropped ojutai and he worked his magic. The second game was alot harder I had to mulligan to 6 and managed to almost stabilize by detention sphereing the first liliana and dropping sun titan however he followed up a couple turns later with a tasigur and then liliana and forced me to sack my titan and over ran.

Second round was against lantern control, my only win of the night First game I managed to get lucky and counter most of his artifacts as he had a slow start and bounce ensnaring bridge for a turn once i had lethal on board. The second game i got kataki, on turn 2 and he could never get a board presence.

Third round was against affinity, also a draw and probably my hardest matchup of the night First game I lost but was very close to stabalising got a verdict a turn too late and the dropped a etched champion and swung for the last bit of damage. Second game I managed to get Kataki, out on turn 4 which forced him to start sacking everything and i managed to win the game, however it was still a very close match.

Final round of the night was against collected company and was the last draw. First game I had to mulligan to 6 and as such ran out of counters and he snuck a collected company through and beat me down. Second game I got a dispel and verdict in opening hand so on turn 5 i manged to wipe the board and stop the coco after and ran away with them game We ran out of time for the third game however he was out of cards in hand with only a kitchen finks on board so I feel if i had more time i should have been able to close as i drew a geist in the last turns draw.

Overall I feel the deck went pretty well however I will need to try and pick up the pace as I learn to play the deck in order to avoid consistantly running out of time.
