Orzhov Warriors!

Here You Have Your Fringe-Class Disruption-Aggro deck in Standard.

I'd love to hear your opinion on this brew.

After a whole lot of testing, I've decided that too many creatures is just superfluous in this deck, even if it's an aggro deck. Having lots creatures on the field is ineffective, thanks to their removal and wraths. Hi Languish!

This specific recipe might not work for you as well as it does for me. I've modified this deck to survive my local meta, which is saturated with players who run Abzan Midrange or some form of Control, be it Esper Dragons or Dark Jeskai. Normally, I would be the only Person who would play something not Meta and cheaper than USD100. Sighs

The Creatures I Chose

  • Arashin Foremost - Double Strike is underrated. It's my main wincon and it's pretty reliable on both offense and defense. Without Chief of the Edge, it cant match up to Siege Rhino or anything bigger though and it's vulnerable to burn.
  • Bloodsoaked Champion - Need I Say More? Its a 1cmc 2/1 that can resurrect itself, why wouldn't you have it on your list?
  • Mardu Woe-Reaper - It has a touch of grave hate and has saved me from Kolaghan's Command recursion more than once. The gain life is subtle, but useful. Aside from that, it's a 1 cmc 2/1 so why not.
  • Blood-Chin Rager - I'm disappointed that most people don't realize that it has a menace effect. Whenever i swing, they just think its some vanilla 2/2 creature. It's so satisfying to their reactions when they realize they can't block with their one creature when i have a whole horde of pokers attacking. The smarter ones kill this guy immediately.
  • Chief of the Edge - Auto Include!
  • Drana, Liberator of Malakir - I'm on the edge with this one. Its hard to play, since its 3cmc and 1BB to boot, but it's effect is just nasty. Sadly, its hard to set the effect of, since the card becomes such a magnet for removal (Which can be nice sometimes) and its a flying 2/3 first strike so it's relatively hard to burn and RDW creatures make her laugh.
  • The Noncreature I Chose

    • Valorous Stance - Keeps most removal away. Deals with Siege Rhino, Anafenza, the Foremost, Woodland Wanderer , and other fatties. Unfortunately, its useless against exile effects
    • Utter End - Gen. purpose removal spell. Used for anything i didn't anticipate. Deals with anything unexpected or just hard to kill.
    • Read the Bones - Yes, it's kinda odd to have draw, but if you run out of juice in this deck, you're dead to most other decks. The cards in this deck can't challenge most of the meta pound for pound so making sure you have a stocked hand and field is essential.
    • Stasis Snare - Hi Hangarback Walker! Hello, Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger! :3
    • Murderous Cut - The grave isn't so hard to fill. It has a wider targeting range than Ultimate Price or Surge of Righteousness
    • Ruinous Path - With 24 lands in a deck whose average cmc is 2.5, you tend to get flooded more than you want, so the awaken ability here is gives you a possible mana sink. It also kills planeswalkers, so you can't complain.
    • Sorin, Solemn Visitor - Great at keeping you alive, it can either extend your life or add a creature (and it's a flying one!) to your field. Also, its a great kill-magnet and it tends to force the hands of my opponents

    Sideboard Anyone?

    • Despise - Gives you some early game Disruption, which works well against all those Control-Oriented decks out there. Your opponent has a Jace, Vryn's Prodigy   in their opening hand? That's just too bad. For Them.

  • Duress - Pretty much the same effect as Despise, but it focuses more on control decks that dont really have that many creatures at all.
  • Infinite Obliteration - This card. One time, i played against a deck that played 4 copies of Jace and 2 Silumgar, the Drifting Death and no other creatures. Turn 3, I play this card, calling out Jace and he scoops. Beautiful. Aside from that, I usually only side this card in aganist Green Ramp or Dragons Control. Pretty Conditional
  • Erase - It doesn't come up often, but when it does, i almost always have no answer to an Enchantment, so i put 2 copies in here just in case.
  • Merciless Executioner - I like playing it against decks that use Silumgar, the Drifting Death or Dragonlord Ojutai. Basically, it's Control Hate. It works well with Bloodsoaked Champion
  • Surge of Righetousness - If you're against RDW, you wanna put this in. Running out of life is not an option when fighting and you wanna remove their creatures, which is a regular wincon. I sometimes play this against Abzan Midrange if I feel that they run enough Creatures.
