This is a slight variation of Francisco Jose Ronquillo Marroquin of Guatemala's Sphinx of the Chimes Combo Standard Deck as featured on Magic: The Gathering's "Daily MTG" segment here: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/deck/1189.It follows some of the suggested board changes by Sam Black, but also has some interesting sideboard elements added by me, which can change the play style of the deck as well as add additional win conditions. This is a very "Shock and Awe" combo deck and should definitely get you some game 1 victories. The trick is to be able to adapt and change your winning condition/strategy, because your opponent will do his very best to stop you Game 2.
Initially the deck plays as a typical Dimir U/B Control Combo Deck with Unsummon-type effects, countering of spells and controlled board wipes, which should give you enough time to set up your primary win condition, which is to mill your library using Sphinx of the Chimes and then win with Laboratory Maniac. Key here is Heartless Summoning, which makes both of your creatures much cheaper.
Sideboard is what should help. Against decks that have ways to deal with your Laboratory Maniac (such as mill or discard) at a time when you cannot prevent or protect him, you can always swap in more Laboratory Maniac.Duress is actually great for this as it is a 1 drop for B and should help get rid of any annoying control elements that might hinder your combo.Same with Negate .
The two additional sideboard elements to this deck are - - Desecration Demon - meshes really well with Heartless Summoning and yields a 5/5 Flyer (for BB!!!) that can outlive an early game Mutilate and swing or you can play mind games with your opponent and use Desecration Demon as a control piece to eat away at your opponent's creatures. Use this to slow down Aggro and potentially get yourself a winning damaging creature mid-game. [Maybeboard] - Against fast decks it is possible to benefit a lot from Devour Flesh in addition to Desecration Demon. If opponent likes to run smaller creatures and he can afford to sacrifice weenies and/or other tokens to keep your DD big but tapped, you can Devour Flesh him to get at least 5 life in a pinch. This should give you a turn or two.
x2 Psychic Spiral (although maybe bump that to x4 for Sphinx of the Chimes' sake?) is an alternate SURPRISE win condition, which should do wonders against decks that can deal with Laboratory Maniac or for some reason deny you your win condition. Basically turn 4 you should be able to start milling yourself pretty significantly with Sphinx of the Chimes and get your graveyard nice and bloated for Psychic Spiral reversal to shuffle your graveyard into your library and mill your opponent for X where X is your graveyard. This is a great second game win condition - your opponent shouldn't be sideboarding graveyard hate like Tormod's Crypt, etc. etc. because your Mainboard and win condition doesn't really deal cards in your graveyard after they leave play or get milled.
