Windgrace Landlocked Stax cEDH

Lord Windgrace seems like a letdown from his paltry commander set, yet as a general it is an incredibly powerful and versatile card that allows us to have a lot of control over whats happening during the game. We are very creature light in this build, and for reason. We have a TON of board wipes and removal of all kinds!! We also run a few hard-locks that are really difficult for your opponents to break! This deck is currently in a prototype state and as such will be evolving as better synergy and card choices become apparent through playtesting.

The Drain Combo

Maralen of the Mornsong + Stranglehold - This devious lock will surely anger your opponents. Maralen stops all players from drawing cards, whilst stranglehold stops only opponents from searching their libraries. This turns off Maralens seconds tutoring ability for only opponents ( we still get to tutor every turn ) but they cant draw cards and cant search so they just take 3 life loss from Maralen every turn. Landing this on a relatively empty board should result in some folding and general moaning as your opponents are now locked out from getting any more cards and are stuck in a life loss loop. Use this time to assemble other combos or to keep the board clear by tutoring up removal spells on your turn or tutoring up protection spells to keep the combo going.

The Massacre Zone combo

Massacre Wurm + Natural Affinity : This will transform all lands into 2/2 creatures, which massacre wurm will then destroy all opponents lands with it's ETB ability, and also deal 2x the number of lands opponents have damage to them. While this probably won't kill any opponents, you will still have all your lands while they most likely will have zero lands and 1/4 less health on average.

Massacre Wurm + Sudden Spoiling : This will turn all creatures a single opponent controls into 0/2s which massacrew wurm will gladly dispose of with its ETB ability. Great to use if one opponent has gotten out of control.

The Landlocked Stax Pieces

We can easily punish players by dropping various stax pieces throughout the game to ruin their plans and stifle their speed.

Bitterblossom + Contamination or Awakening Zone + Contamination : Either one of these will reduce all players to generating only black mana off their lands. This can be devastating against any non-black deck especially if they cant remove either piece because of their now weakened mana base.

Blood Moon : This won't bother us too much as we play a good amount of basic lands and also red spells that we can use under the effect.

Strip Mine , Wasteland , and Tectonic Edge with our variety of extra land per turn spells and Lord Windgraces -2 ability will allow us to continually keep opponents lands in check throughout the game, including Ramunap Excavator , Crucible of Worlds , Regrowth, and Noxious Revival . We can use Impending Disaster and Devastating Dreams early in the game to keep opponents at bay especially those that rely on two-three lands and mana rocks to keep in action. Those players are usually out of the game when confronted with a complete land boardwipe. We can recover easily from this. Late game we the cycling ability from decree of annhiliation which can only be stopped by stifle type effects.

Card Choices and Value Plays

Toxic Deluge , Damnation , Yahenni's Expertise, Rolling Earthquake, Anger of the Gods, Volcanic Fallout, Back to Nature , and Seeds of Innocence are all board wipes that should keep the game fair and the board mostly clear

We can easily setup Cabal Coffers + Urborg with Crop Rotation or Sylvan Scrying to generate an arbitrarily large amount of mana

Tormod's Crypt and Faerie Macabre should be enough to keep the graveyards clear and prevent any silly early game shenanigans

yawmoths will and Past in Flames and the large amount of mana accelerants like Pyretic Ritual and Dark Ritual will allow us to double up our spells and also have some late game reach for board wipes
