For the Horde Magic variant. I suppose this says something about my playgroup...

  • The Winding Wurms represent 6/6 green Wurm tokens.
  • The Siege Wurms represent 5/5 green Wurm tokens with trample.
  • The Trench Wurms represent an even split of 3/3 artifact Wurms with either deathtouch or lifelink.
  • Bellowing Tanglewurm makes nongreen Survivors turn brown.
  • Crush of Wurms is six Wurms in one go, plus whatever else came out this turn.
  • Elderscale Wurm plays with the life gain "buffer" variant that's one of my group's difficulty options.
  • Impervious Greatwurm demands a sacrifice... or exile.
  • Nesting Wurm is among the scariest early hits, as it calls for its family plus big daddy Panglacial Wurm, in addition to slightly upping the token ratio.
  • Engulfing Slagwurm & Novablast Wurm demand removal spells or real hardy creatures.
  • Sandwurm Convergence defends the Horde and requires Survivors to find disenchantment to win.
  • Worldspine Wurm traditionally scares the Survivors when the deck takes damage before making good on the threat by showing up. It evokes that "I'll be back" threatening feeling and requires the Survivors to exile it to win.
If the Survivors are feeling particularly ballsy, one variant difficulty option is to treat these guys as tokens.
These guys can be tough under the right circumstances.
  • Boneyard Wurm & Vigorspore Wurm get better later in the game.
  • Carrion Wurm & Dirtcowl Wurm on the other hand, work best when hit earlier in the game.
  • Enlisted Wurm brings out a nontoken friend cheaper than it.
  • Phantom Wurm is the love child of Craw Wurm and a Monty Python skit.
  • Scoria Wurm has commitment issues.
  • Worms of the Earth usually is just a 5-life hit, but if the group's hurting, so do their land drops.
