Yidris, Wielder of Value

Commander / EDH*

GeoBrain

This deck focuses around gaining as much value as possible from Cascade triggers from Yidris, or via hard-casting spells. This id done by manipulating what effects take place on the curve of spells available, this is to make out cascades more predictable and therefore easier to take advantage of.

For example:

Ramp Spells like Cultivate, Chromatic Lantern and Fellwar Stone sit at 2 or 3 on curve. So cascading using Bloodbraid Elf or anything with CMC 4 is likely to hit ramp (there is no 4 CMC ramp except for Solemn Similacrum). All spells in the deck that cost 1 or 2 either sort the top few cards of your library or are tutor effects. These include Brainstorm, Sylvan Library, Sensei's Divining Top and Lim-Dul's Vault. So cascading using a CMC 3 spell will more likely hit CMC 2 ramp or an effect which will likely be used to manipulate what we cascade into next. Because of the mana intensity of this deck, more CMC 2 or 3 ramp is run than sorting effects.

The main targeted removal in this deck also lie at CMC 2-3, this is undesirable but unavoidable. It is preferable to draw these cards or manipulate them to the top of the deck to draw them next turn. These are also best played before combat or during combat in order to avoid unwanted cascade triggers (Cascade is NOT a may ability).

CMC 4, 5 and 6 is made up of purely value cards. In the game, this is where you want to get to as quickly as possible because most of the win conditions for the deck lie here. There are different categories of value which can be accessed.

Double Strike & Extra combat: Seize the Day, Berserkers' Onslaught, etc (to give spells extra cascade triggers).

Blowing stuff up: Decimate, Acidic Slime, etc

Untapping lands: Bear Umbra, Garruk Wildspeaker

Graveyard recursion: Eternal Witness, Greenwarden of Murasa, etc (in case we want to overload Cyclonic rift while when it's in the bin).

Random Value: Grave Titan, Etherium-Horn Sorcerer, etc

Anything with CMC 7+ are there for value reasons and their ability to shift the balance of the game-state. These include In Garruk's Wake, Expropriate, Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, Sheoldred, Whispering One and Army of the Damned among others.

There are also ways to protect Yidris and/or make sure damage gets through. Darksteel Plate, Lightning Greaves, Rogue's Passage and Aqueous Form are ideal.
