You Activated My Trap Card!

The main objective is to make everyone draw as much cards as possible until you are able to kill them off with Master the Way, catch them with a Cerebral Vortex, or activate your Runeflare Trap. The Ebony Owl Netsuke deals almost constant damage once you have cards out that make them draw every turn. An optimal starting hand consists of at least 2U mana sources, a permanent to make everyone draw an extra card, and an Owl. Everything else is usually a bonus but more lands is preferred.

The two issues I have come across in this deck so far is that against aggro decks, it is practically defenseless (which is understandable) and it is just a tad slow since some of my cards require a decent amount of mana just to set everything up (switching up my manabase should hopefully alleviate that issue to an extent). I would love any suggestions that speed up my mana production without compromising the purpose of the deck. I can live with weak vs aggro but I will appreciate any suggestions that help the deck. I am not looking to make a "broken" deck, but I will consider all suggestions. I just want to keep this deck fun without irritating my friends with guaranteed/stupid wins.

I am considering on making this deck into an actual competitive modern deck. Any suggestions on how to do that and or about what to expect in modern games (like cards people would use against this deck/ways to easily shut me down) would be appreciated. It will help me decide on if this is a change I would really want to do.

So to sum it up I went almost lost every game and drew 2 of them. I did win 2 matches out of all of them. Can't say it was what I was expecting but it wasn't surprising. About 1/4 of the time I lost was due to my deck just not performing at all. The others were to their decks just being faster then mine is capable of doing. I was completely demolished by a storm deck and I could have drawn the game but he used BloodMoon, thus disabling my Redirect I was waiting to use. 2 of my games I lost the last match due to not drawing either usable cards or not drawing lands.

Chasm Skulker performed exactly how I expected. He was immediately a major threat since either he could get super big and be my win-con. A good majority of the time he was removed before anything could get going. His purpose in this deck was purely to put pressure on my opponent. I swapped one of my Otherworld Atlas for a Font of Mythos (since my LGS only had one). In practice Mythos worked amazingly well. Jace's Archivist was identified as a threat by my opponents and was usually removed. I never got to use his ability. Jhoira of the Ghitufoil was never played and was often swapped out for sideboard cards.

Looking back on how my deck performed, I think having a play set of Ebony Owl Netsuke would be quite helpful. In most matches, I kept my opponents hands full and almost always had an Owl on the field. Giving a higher chance to draw and play more Owls puts more pressure on my opponent and lowers their life total which could allow me to play my damage spells without having to wait for the right moment. The two times I won my matches, I used Runeflare Trap to deal over 30 dmg to them and they never were able to respond to it.

All my opponents were rather impressed with my deck since it more or less is a homebrew that does pretty well. It just isn't as fast as the top tier decks. They called it "dank brew" and one said he "shat himself before sideboard".

My sideboard consisted of: 2x Dream Fracture 2x Spellheart Chimera -never used and often took the two in my main out 2x Anger of the Gods -sideboarded. never got to use 2x Call to Heel -used but wasn't life saving 2x Redirect -Could have countered a Storm deck but was prevented 2x Ebony Owl Netsuke -often sideboarded in 1x Crush of Tentacles -never used 1x Fall of the Titans -never used 1x Psychosis Crawler -never used
