Sideboard

Better late than never, I finally got around to brewing up a new squirrel tribal build with some of the new chitter critters from Bloomburrow. It's a fair deck that's pretty straight forward - play Squirrels and hit your opponents in the nuts.

Notably, the Bloomburrow squirrels provided some very useful options, of which I included:

  • Camellia, the Seedmiser: Not my favorite of the new squirrels, but undoubtedly useful as she provides all our [other] squirrels with the Menace evasion along with token and buff opportunities

  • Thornvault Forager: a much needed mana dork for the squirrel tribe, but mired with the hefty Forage requirement that prevents her from being truly great. Still quite a useful addition and I believe, overall better than my previous choice of Song of Freyalise in my other squirrel deck, Deez Nuts

  • Valley Rotcaller: this is the creature that made me really want to return to the squirrel tribe with a fresh build. The lifegain provides us with needed staying power, but it's the lifedrain that really pushes this creature over the top. The only drawback to this creature is the likelihood of being the target of removal.

  • Vinereap Mentor: not that great a creature, but there's just enough value in the Forage mechanic to necessitate Food tokens, so she's necessary.

  • Cache Grab: while the punny spell name is fun, this wouldn't be the first spell I'd choose for this slot (card draw/tutor), as I don't much like putting my creatures in the graveyard. However, the necessity of Food tokens makes this spell worthwhile. While the mill could make this spell doubly useful with the Forage mechanic, it also makes me feel like I need another spell to retrieve useful creatures from the graveyard.
