Description

This is my Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest deck list. The focus of this deck is to utilize Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest's ability to make my creatures huge by sacrificing my own permanents and forcing my opponents to sacrifice stuff as well. I love this deck any permanent triggers the effect so Evolving Wilds or Verdant Catacombs makes my stuff bigger. Sacrificing is a difficult strategy to counter. However this deck has a couple annoyances. Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest costing 5 mana to cast is rough and without any inherent protection like my other Commanders he tends to eat up a removal spell often.

Now for this strategy to run smoothly we need 2 essential components: Token Generators and Sac Outlets and we have plenty of both. So if we plan to sacrifice our permanents we need to generate plenty of things to sacrifice. Bitterblossom, Awakening Zone and From Beyond produce us tokens every turn but we also have Avenger of Zendikar, Ant Queen and Westvale Abbey   incase we eat up a lot of Enchantment removal. Now we need things to sacrifice our tokens. Ashnod's Altar, Viscera Seer and Carrion Feeder offer us FREE instant-speed outlets that give us awesome effects as well. But we can get our opponents to join in on the fun with Grave Pact, Fleshbag Marauder and Tribute to the Wild. We even have a few things that offer us both sac outlets and produce tokens such as Ghoulcaller Gisa and Mycoloth. So we got the 2 essential components down but we have a few other things to offer:

• Removal spells. Targeted: Doom Blade + Shriekmaw, Mass Removal with Damnation, Non-creature removal: Viridian Zealot + Putrefy and whatever we need with Maelstrom Pulse.

• Plenty of Draw effects like Phyrexian Arena or Bloodgift Demon or even draw that gives us a sac outlet with Vampiric Rites or Smothering Abomination.

• Mana Ramp with sac outlets such as Harrow or Sakura-Tribe Elder.

• Life Gain to counter the effects of things like Bitterblossom or Phyrexian Arena such as Essence Warden or Disciple of Griselbrand.

• Doubling Effects. Whether it doubles our token output or +1/+1 counters. Doubling Season, Corpsejack Menace or Primal Vigor makes the deck get out of control really fast.

• Win conditions that don't involve the commander whether it be Overrun with Garruk Wildspeaker or Eldrazi Monument. Or even a mass sac-ing spree with Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat on the field.
