This deck is my first real kick at modern. It offers a few ways to play depending on the opening hand.
The first one is to use Torpor Orb to cheat out huge creatures with bad enter the battlefield effects if you have it in your opening hand.
The other option is to use Varolz, the Scar-Striped to scavenge the creatures from the graveyard as the power to mana-cost ratio on these creatures are some of the best in MTG. It's best to have Varolz, the Scar-Striped and Lotleth Troll in opening hand if you are doing this option.
If you aren't setup with either hands I'd suggest a mulligan.
The deck design is mostly used in mutliplayer formats.

= 7/7 Trample for BB. Great turn 3 play.
Eater of Days + Torpor Orb
= 9/8 Flying / Trample for 4 Colorless mana. Great turn 4 play!
Demonlord of Ashmouth

= 5/4 Flyer Undying, which works a a great beater to help finish the game. Good on turn 4.
Using Varolz, the Scar-Striped to scavenge
Varolz, the Scar-Striped - Key creature you want to have in opening hand to enable scavenge of all graveyard
Lotleth Troll - This card is made for this deck and primary scavenge target as it has trample and one B regeneration! You can discard creatures to the graveyard and gain +1/+1 counters.
Death's Shadow + Varolz, the Scar-Striped
- Great card for scavenge as it gives +13/+13 counters for one B. Will usually try and get this into the graveyard by casting it to die on turn one if in opening hand or self milling it as discards with Grisly Salvage. Great late game drop when my own life is low. Can be a good Essence Harvest Target by itself late game.

Essence Harvest - This is used to end the game once the big creatures are on the board over 7+ power. Can easily be creatures with 20+ power.
Jarad's Orders - Added this in as a great fetch. It's best combo is to get Varolz, the Scar-Striped or Lotleth Troll in hand and Death's Shadow in graveyard
Sideboard
Unmake - Great removal for all creature types, including indestructable
Duress - Hand disruption to get rid of deck's weakness which is instant speed artifact destruction and counters.
Apostle's Blessing - Added this for several reasons. It can be used to protect creatures and artifacts from removal. It can also be used to push through lethal damage against a mono colored board.

= 4/3 Undying for BB. Great turn 2/3 play. The great news about this card is it can be played on turn 2 as long as you follow up with a Torpor Orb on turn 3 to prevent the return from graveyard effect. Returns from graveyard as a 5/4.
