Was actually quite a successful outing for the first time. Faced some really strong decks and finished the night 3-1. A little more detail below
Game 1 against U/G Ramp/control 1-2: Quite an interesting matchup as there were a lot of counter spells both ways. He was able to plasma capture me when I was a little behind on mana and steal 5 from far/away and land a couple big monsters to take me out. The second game I started quicker with an early nightveil that was able to play his lands and limiting him while Ashiok did work and I stole big creatures. Third game was a let down. I mistakenly kept a two black mana hand even though I was sitting on 2 doom blades and a far/away but drew no land for 7 turns and by that time it was too late.
Game 2: BUG aggro/mill 2-0: Another very interesting deck. In this matchup I had very good hands and was able to counter pretty much all spells played or doom bladed the green creatures. Second game I sideboarded in Gainsays and was able to counter his nightveil on turn three having only 2 mana. After that the counters just kept coming.
Game 3: BUG creatures 2-0: A deck that ran scavenging ooze and other big green creatures. First game I ended up milling him with jace and controlling his creatures. Second game he sideboarded mistcutters but they were just doom bladed after being played. I ended up winning with a consuming aberration and rogue's passage combo. (game 1 might have been game 2 and vice versus, cant recal)
Game 4: Naya 2-0: A great matchup to test against a midrange naya. The games were very close. He was able to get out a few creatures to swing with when I couldn't counter everything. Game 1 he had me at 3 life swinging with a arbor elf with unflinching courage and a loxodon against my desecration demon. Luckily for me I had a doom blade that took care of the elf and desecration kill the smiter. After that I was sitting pretty for a jace and Ashiok mill party. Very similar in game 2 and my opponent got me down to 7 but at that point I hit the mana and cards necessary to finish through the game with another milling jace.
Overall: Pretty good outing. Made some people frustrated but the deck worked very well and as intended. I think game 1 would have been a little different had I had mana game 3. Good fun and a lot of fun people to play with.
