So I've had yet another go at making a Waste Not themed deck, and I'm actually quite pleased with where it's ended up this time. I would love to hear suggestions and discussion about the approach I have taken to this one, and hopefully some of you will find it interesting!
Let's break the deck down a bit:
Waste Not - I've tried to make something that will exploit all three modes of this card. Hopefully they'll become clear when you see the rest of the deck!
Whispering Madness - One of the main engines in this deck. Played at the right time or ciphered after being hard cast in the first main phase will create a tonne of discards from your opponent, which all give juicy bonuses for us. If the spell resolves from cipher then we have the small problem that the mana created from discarded lands won't float into our second main phase, which is why
Pack Rat
works so well here. Use that excess mana to make more Rats!

Wrench Mind
- All should be obvious why they're here...discarding! All of these work well with Dream Salvage in a bind to draw a card or two on the cheap.
Dakmor Salvage

Raven's Crime
- Creates a nice little "discard per turn" combo that we can get up and running if needed. Otherwise Raven's Crime is still a decent spell in this deck, even without the combo being online.
Liliana Vess - Cheaper than Liliana of the Veil and the +1 does the same job. The ultimate on Vess actually works nicely with the Whispering Madness if you manage to get there.

- Draw silly numbers of cards to ensure you have plenty more discard spells and find those Caresses.
Liliana's Caress

Whispering Madness
- One of our win conditions, really. Hits for big damage, especially if you have multiple Caresses out.
Victim of Night - Nice removal that we can cast after combat damage with our mana from any ciphered Madnesses.
Jace's Archivist - A Whispering Madness on a stick, can provide the combo piece in place of it in case all our ciphered creatures are killed. In fact Dream Salvage

Jace's Archivist
is a lovely combo as you can cast Dream first then respond to it with the Archivist's ability to draw loads of cards (you might also obviously end up with a Salvage after the ability resolves anyway, but it's nice that it can work either way).
Pack Rat
- A beast in this deck. With all the extra mana and card draw this can get silly very quickly.
Just to recap win conditions:
- Zombie tokens off of Waste Not
- Pack Rat army using all the excess mana we will generate
- Milling opponent ([[Elixir of Immortality could be on SB if you find that you are milling yourself).
- Ultimate ability from Liliana Vess to get all your opponent's creatures.
- Perpetual shockage from the Caress.
I would love some help with sideboarding, mainly because I am quite unfamiliar with Modern. Looking forward to developing this one some more. Thanks!
