Zombie Apocalypse

Modern*

Maskim

This is the latest evolution of a 10 year old deck. Originally the design was to use Necromancer's Covenant and Tombstone Stairwell (combined with Vengeful Dead) to generate a large number of zombie tokens quickly, as well as "pinging" the opponent with Gempalm Polluter. Over time most of the token cards were removed, and this is the result.

This deck specializes in the death of 1000 cuts. It is a very fast deck that starts dealing small amounts of damage quickly (Piranha Marsh sometimes makes it the first turn), which steadily grows over time. Stromgald Crusader and Sanguine Guard make great storm troopers, and the sheer volume of zombie "lords" means that even the wimpiest creature gets heavily buffed after 4 turns.

Strategy 1:
Straight up beat down using a combination of lords (Undead Warchief, Death Baron, etc) and stormtroopers (Sanguine Guard, Stromgald Crusader). Quest for the Gravelord is a great way to replenish troops lost in the melee.

Strategy 2:
Arms race using Death Baron and a couple of stormtroopers to discourage creature attacks, while steadily increasing the size of the army with Endless Ranks of the Dead until a finisher like Army of the Damned or Grave Titan can be played.

Strategy 3:
Nuke 'em from orbit. Gempalm Polluter and Shepherd of Rot ensure that this deck can deal a lot of direct damage, even when the majority of zombies are unable to penetrate the opponent's defenses. Vengeful Dead makes suicide runs worthwhile at the end of a game, and Stromgald Crusader can fly over most creature defenses.
