Hey Guys! Dave here. My goal is to build all 32 color combinations for EDH; ensuring each deck has its own identity, playstyle, and theme. It’ll take some time between work and my second MTG love, Modern, but it will get there. I don’t plan to post any decks on here I don’t own in paper or haven’t tested so that y’all can know the deck is tried and true (at least in the meta I play in). To help in this endeavor, I want to share a deck building theory I stumbled on which I think really takes the pressure off when first building your deck. It’s called the "8x8 Theory".

Basically, you set aside 35 lands and your commander then pick eight different affects you want in your deck, followed by eight cards for each affect. I generally always reserve Ramp, Draw, and Removal for the first three, then find complement affects for the other five. I plan to break each of my decks into Custom Categories for each affect so that it will be clear what the goals of my decks are! I also want to note that I rarely want 35 lands in my decks, so you’ll see some tweaks to this formula. In the end, you can build any deck rather quickly with a rough idea of what you want to do and have it do that thing.

Happy Gaming!
