I started playing Magic when Mirage first came out. I don't even recall what made me by a pack, but I did. My best friend, my stepdad, and myself contacted magicitis. We infected a few friends with the disease over the next few weeks. Many hours spent around the dining room table playing huge multiplayer games with 6+ people. I soon discovered the competitive scene of Magic and learned how bad of a deck builder I was. I had my ass handed to me. With practice, research, and many more ass whippings, I got better. I got a local sports card store to start stocking cards and then got them to start running weekly sanctioned tournaments. A close group of friends started buying at least one box per expansion and we formed Team Manaburn. (Which, upon returning, I find is a irrelevant name. Ugh) At this point we neck deep in Magic. We traveled to tournaments all around NC and played in many pre-releases.

Unfortunately with the financial demands of the game, ManaBurn and the core group of other players stopped playing. I got out around Darksteel.

Recently I was invited to an M12 Draft at FNM. I discovered that magicitis is an incurable condition. It lies dormant until a catalyst is triggered. I've missed a lot over the years, but I am hooked on M12 drafts.

I don't know what lies in my Magic future, but I hope it doesn't break the bank or cause my wife to kill me.
