Originally played form Kamigawa to about the release of M10. Have recently gotten back into it but am discovering that my nearly encyclopedic knowledge of the rules has all but vanished (I'm relearning the phases for pete sake). In the past I mostly designed decks that I could never afford to actually buy and build and often played casual with proxies. Looking to actually build decks for a change, likely on a budget.
Never been a serious competitive player... mainly due to the cost. I'm obsessive about mana fixing decks to make them as fast and consistent as possible. True to the ideals of black I see everything as a resource to be used and my decks often reflect this. I once was very well versed on the rules and took special pride in finding ways the loopholes and blind-spots in the rules.
As a secondary color I tend toward green, and red equally with some inclination toward blue under the right circumstances. I rarely play anything white. While I love a good combo as much as the next guy I believe no deck should be reliant on combos for a win condition. As such I often play aggro with a combo (or two) that will take advantage of the critters and their abilities. My Live and Let Die deck being a perfect example of this.
I enjoy making solid decks but having having decks that are just like every one else'. The worst thing I can hear as I describe my deck to some one is "oh it's a [insert-deck-name-here] deck." Thus I rarely play with really powerful decks in a given format format as most really powerful decks in a given format are well known.
