I've been playing magic casually on and off since 2011. Tried standard, didn't like the limited creativity and pay-to-win feel. I have great respect for the competitive formats of the game and enjoy watching them but not so much playing. I've found that I really just enjoy 4 or more person games because of the chaos, laughs, and political shenanigans. I do my best to make decks that thrive in this environment, are fun for the whole table, interesting, and of course, budget. Its extremely creative, and the casual atmosphere is self regulating; those with worse decks have worse fields and are therefore targeted less, allowing them to survive just as long. My goal is to make decks and play cards that are both fun for me and fun for the table. That doesn't mean just group hug or no interaction mind you, but nothing that feels degenerate or lame either to me or for someone sitting across from me. I have no problem taking apart a deck after one game if it feels that way while playing it, regardless of if I win or lose.
While my decks used to be very budget for the sake of my own wallet ($0.25 for most cards, $1-5 for a few pricier ones) I have recently discovered high quality proxy printing and am getting into it full swing! I highly recommend it to anyone who likes alt arts and paying a bit (or even a lot!) less to play the game they love. At the largest order size you can print any card with any back for just $0.25! There's a whole community for it on reddit but the main things to look into are: MakePlayingCards, CardConjurer, and MPCfill :) enjoy!
To help me keep track of everything, I’m changing my lists so that the foil indicator means the card is a proxy. Just so I know whats where and to give an idea of the real budget being used :p unfortunately i cant list lots of decks as budget anymore but ah well.
