MTG Draft Simulator

The MTG Draft Simulator is a good way to practice your drafting skills. You may draft with bots, other people, or a combination of both.

When you enter the draft simulator, there will be a white box with usernames and text. This is the Global Draft Chat. You can use this chat feature to coordinate with other users interested in participating in a draft.

On this page, you’ll see buttons for the three types of draft you can do with our MTG Draft Simulator. These are Host Live Draft, Solo Draft, and Cube Draft.

You’ll also see three labeled sections: Open Drafts, Your Recently Finished Drafts, and Recently Finished Drafts. Open Drafts are drafts that haven't yet begun that you can join. Under Your Recently Finished Drafts, you can review your last five drafts while Recently Finished Drafts is where you can view the last five drafts completed.

If you’re ready to start drafting, you may join an open draft on the left or click either the Host Live Draft, Solo Draft, or Cube Draft to begin.

Host Live Draft

Before you enter the draft simulation, you’ll determine parameters for your draft.

The first section is Draft Options. You’ll choose the time per pack and the max number of slots. You then decide whether your draft will include bots if the picks of other drafters will be visible or hidden and whether only those invited can participate in the draft. If you have other TappedOut users you want to draft with, you will be able to enter their names.

The next section is Pack Options. You’ll determine the pack size and whether you want to choose from a pool of random packs. If you don’t want random packs you’ll then specify the packs you’re drafting from.

Once you save your specifications, you’ll enter the draft simulator. On the top left of the page, there is a blue button that says Begin Draft. Click to start.

Rotation

You and the rest of the players are assigned a seat and open a pack. On your left, you will see a list of the cards in your pack. Clicking on one of those cards will pull that card into your picks, and your pack will go to the next seat. At this point, you wait until your next pack is passed to you. This goes on just like a normal MTG draft.

Picks

When you pick a card, it will appear in the center of the page. You will see a few options: 'Deck', 'Money', 'Junk', 'Hate', 'Sideboard'. These correspond to where you think this card will fit into the draft deck you are constructing. Clicking on one of these options will throw the card into a category at the bottom of the page. You may re-sort your picks at any time by clicking the 'Un' button next to the card at the bottom.

Idle

Every draft has an idle time of 3 minutes. If a player doesn't make a pick in 3 minutes, they will be dropped from the game. If you get disconnected this way, you may view the draft page and click on the 'Reclaim seat' message to rejoin the game. Picks by dropped players are done according to official Wizards rules: a random card will be taken from the pack by the missing player's seat.

Bots

Bots are somewhat intelligent. They make very good choices, and they develop a color theme on their own. Sometimes they do make silly choices, but they're just bots! Humans are the best draft buddies.

Post-draft

After you are done with your draft, you may reload the page to generate a deck based on your draft picks (or any other seat). Simply look for the 'Generate Deck' form. This will create a normal deck on TappedOut.net complete with charts, etc. People often ask if you can play with each other online with your deck on TappedOut.net. The answer is no. But you can playtest or draw sample hands from it. You may also export the deck for use in MTGO, or other applications.

Solo Draft

The Solo Draft has similar parameter options to Live Draft but without the section allowing you to add users to your draft.

Cube Draft

A cube draft is like a booster draft, except you choose all the cards and wrap the packs yourself. Before you start a draft in this section, you’ll have to create a cube. Other users can draft with your cube if you make your cube public.
