Hello T/O Community. Several things I'd like to discuss here. First off, we need some opinions. Specifically, about Card Building.
Fairly soon, once we get a bit more organized, we were thinking about having "Card Building Challenges". Similar to deck building, the criteria is given and you make a card that fits. Does that sound like something y'all could get into?
Secondly, continuing on with the TappedOut communal set is something that has been looming in the shadows for a while. We need general opinions about that.
Thank you all. Please give your opinions mercilessly, because it will help decide what we do next with the site. (That means it affects you).
PS. The higher management does not feel there is enough support for any of these ideas to take form. Prove them wrong!

Card building sounds great. It would allow people to be more creative while having very real parameters to work within. The flavor text would be the best part. I hope the cards (the winning ones atleast) would be balanced in the current game. I joined this site only a week or two ago and I don't know what the "communal set" is. Could someone send me a link or give me a description?

The communal set is a hypothetical set that would be made entirely by t/o users.

2 red 3 colorless, Explosives Master creature-gobline 2/2 all goblins get +1/+1 and RR sacrifice this goblin: do 3 damage to target creature or player

All riggers get +2/+1 and make an additional contraption.

I like the idea of doing the negashards. I have a storyline and ideas a plenty. I would love to get involved also I can speak for Siegfried and l0ki. They said the wanted to join in on the last card creation article/thread.

@kabrazell WHAT? AN ADDITIONAL CONTRAPTION? Way to break every format. Jesus man.

I think that it would be great and a lot of fun if done correctly. I think that it should start with challanges that bring an overarching story to define the sets, then challenges to develop mechanics that mesh with that, then start designing some cards.
That said I think that the cards should be accessable to veiw but not along with the regular cards. It would be very frustrating for serious deckbuilders (not me) to have to sort through cards that do and do not exist.
Again great idea, I suport it but it needs to be done very carefully.
Forgive my spelling no spell check on this browser.

I think that the idea of having a communal set/s made by us tappedout-ers
But im not sure whether it would work out as a good idea or not.
Sounds fun and i'd try to contribute as much as possible. But as stated by squire1 there would need to be separation from the real cards. There would also need to be very very specific guidelines on what we were looking for in the cards and what sort of abilities would be suited.
If someone was willing to monitor this then i think that it is project we should do.

It would seem like this idea could have some merit... i don't know that i would like it as well as i enjoy the deck building challenges, and this current draft debate. Really hoping to see more draft topics as this has been fun.
I definitely agree with the posters above that you should have to enter a separate area of the site in order to play with the "communal set" so that we don't goof up people who are actually trying to build real decks. A special walled off area so to speak to keep these created cards.
I am only luke warm to this idea, but then I have never really participated in card creation challenges before. If you plan to move forward with it then I suggest you need to set the dominant theme of the set so that you can have a larger backdrop against which this set is created. For instance Alara = multi color ROE = big colorless thuumpers / leveling, etc... Could have voting as to what the theme should be, or a contest of some kind... but input at the top level should be inserted first i would think before you get down to the minutia of actual cards.

my feelings towards making your own magic cards are kind of like how I feel about d&d - fun if it's done right, cool concept, but I've had a lot of trouble finding the right group for it. it's something I could see doing on my own, or with a select few friends, maybe, but (no offense to anyone in particular) not really with the community at large - seems like a recipe for drama.
BUT that's just me... if you guys wanna come up with something awesome, you should definitely do it! I'll provide moral support. :)

I'm really on board with both card creation (just did some this morning, even) and I think a set would also be an interesting thing to create as a community.

I know nothing about this TappedOut communal set, but card-building challenges sound fun.

@ Darkness1835 are we starting with story/mechanics or are you jumping into cards?

Mechanics and story-line. In the upcoming article, I'll be asking for multiple things, storyline and mechanics included. So start Brainstorm ing those now. Also, keep in mind they need to work together. Having two random things with no cohesion makes no sense.
April 26, 2010 6:24 p.m.
i mean you could always make a new set guide line on the site (like standard, legacy, pre-release, etc) so that it doesnt get confused with the real decks
April 26, 2010 6:37 p.m.
Its not accurate that we do not think there is enough support. Its just that we need to get the specific mechanics for the submission process down, or else it just kind of ends up a little vague, like Caley's last attempt.

i'm just the new guy but sounds cool. only one question. Will they be printable?
I can see it now...
Your sitting around with your frends just starting to play a casual game of magic.
Turn 1 you play Forest tap Forest to play God's assistant (cost is 1 colorless) God's assistant is a Legendary 0/1 Indestructible creature with Haste who's oracle text contains: (tap) You may brake any one rule in the game of Magic if it does not directly cause you to win. This ability can only be played as a sorcery.
ill let your mind pick up from here.

Further suggestion - have the art for the card already set, and then along with what ever rules you come up with force us to come up with the text. One of the criteria could be how well the text fits with the picture.
April 27, 2010 1:28 p.m.
should we post set theme ideas here? or wait for teh challenge...

Yes and yes. Both would be awesome. A t/o set would be sweet: it would just require a lot of organization. My thoughts anyways
