see if we took the raptor last time we would be all set. Anyways... I guess that the current pick is between Bladetusk Boar and shepard-of-the-lost. I would say to hate the shepard-of-the-lost, but we have two bigger flyers and the Bladetusk Boar would make a pair.

I guess my pick is Bladetusk Boar

Of cards we will actually use in our own deck (defined as anything blue or red) I would think it would have to be between Bladetusk Boar or Welkin Tern or Caller of Gales . We have not be drafting allies so no go on the expensive raptor flier.

I see value in both the tern and caller, as filling in our early game mana curve, which is a bit late game lopsided atm... (we have mostly 3 and 4 drop spells) 8 of the 13 cards we might play are 3or more mana... if you count the burst lightning as a higher drop then you have 10 of 13 cards which are expensive to cast. At what point do we consider rounding things out a bit? I have to admit though I do like that bladetusk boar with his intimidate. I am leaning boar but count me firmly in the undecided category until I give it a little more thought.

No reason not to Bladetusk Boar it up, we've got one already.

Bladetusk Boar would be easy, though shepard-of-the-lost scares me... but the time for white has long since passed. Let's go with the dependable damage.

AHHH.i wish there was more of earlier white because personally i think shepard of the lost is one of the best cards for limited. I would go with the raptor tho. 2/2 flier never hurt anybody.

Welkin Tern Look at our picks so far. We won't doing anything till turn 4! We need some small dudes, and the Tern is perfect. Flying almost the best ability in drafting, and this guy is a 2/1 for 1U!

so basically its the Bladetusk Boar Umara Raptor and the Welkin Tern this time

and we can live in our smugness at all of you who decided that (a 2/2 for 3 is way to expensive, what are you smoking. any ways) taking the boar would be a better option than something that could actually be a threat to us.

anyways thats my rant.

And i'm Again going to say we should go with the flying option and this time go Welkin Tern

Welkin Tern

April 10, 2010 2:28 a.m.

I am having a hard time not taking the bladetusk boar at this point even though logic dictates that something to round out our early game and our blue portion of the deck wouldn't be a bad idea, both of which could be had by making a different choice. Gut says boar thought so Bladetusk Boar is my pick.

merubhanot says... #16

welkin-turn is the obvious pick, I think, though if we had any allies I'd say the Umara Raptor . I've never seen Caller of Gales be much more than a chump blocker in drafts. Maybe it's just that people who pick it tend not to be very good...

I don't understand the Bladetusk Boar frenzy going on. It's an okay card, but we pick it so early and I bet that card tables about 50-75% of the time. How many people seriously play red and take it? Maybe 1-2 other people at the table, and chances are they might want something else too...

I have to go with the Bladetusk Boar . We have one and if we can continue to draft well, we should end up with a nice deck.

April 10, 2010 8:05 a.m.

Discounting the white and green cards we dont seem likely to play, our mana curve goes: 4 / 1 / 4 / 4

Not bad. However, its worth noting that all of our 1cc spells have a kicker that make them either a 2 or 5cc if cast the way we'd like to. I don't think we're so far along in the draft that we need to start filling slots, but Welkin Tern and Caller of Gales are both quality low cc cards.

Caller of Gales for me.

April 10, 2010 9:42 a.m.

Xander574 says... #22

i mean the Umara Raptor is also a hate draft, both the Welkin Tern and Caller of Gales are late draft picks, usually they are passed so they may get back to us. There is someone drafting allies and blue, and since we already passed a raptor by drafting it now we both get a 22 flyer for three a possible allies draft and hate draft someone else.

Well, we've passed Kazandu Blademaster for frigging goblin bushwhacker in what may have been the worst second pick in a draft since the guy who passed me a burst lightning for a magosi a few weeks back. And now we're getting more signs that the guy to our left most def ins't in white. we have pitfall trap, mediocre but effective non flier removal, and shepherd of the lost= the best white uncommon in zen.

Red is Bladetusk Boar . The third best red common. Our curve definitely doesn't need it at the moment, it dies to Goblin Shortcutter , and it very well might make it back to us. Not a strong choice.

On the blue end, its Umara Raptor , the best blue common by far, and Welkin Tern , a close second. The tern has a slight chance of making it back, while the raptor has virtually none. caller of gales]] is a fine and underrated card, which is why it won't be getting my consideration at all for a third pick.

Umara Raptor over the tern and shepherd.

journey to nowhere is the best common white for sure

l0ki says... #26

We have to look at our plays for this draft deck. At the moment we most likely won't drop any creatures until turn four. We have one two-drop (Plated Geopede ), and another two-drop that is only good with other dudes on the board (Goblin Bushwhacker ). We need the Welkin Tern as a turn two flyer.

April 11, 2010 8:25 a.m.

jjmacgrinch66 says... #27

I agree with the above statement. Bladetusk Boar is really good card but we need to become threatening in the early game.

Pick Welkin Tern

April 11, 2010 10:06 a.m.

I am inclined to agree wih l0ki the Welkin Tern is the best decision given our curve at the moment. It hurts me to ignore the piggy, but we have 6 ways of dealing with it if we consider what we have so far. I gotta go with the Welkin Tern

April 11, 2010 9:06 p.m.

Cirrus says... #29

Welkin Tern . The card is insane in ZZW, and better in ZZZ. The number of drafts I've won on the backs of these birdies is astronomical.

Maybe that's a little biased for adequate evidence. How about this:

It's a FLYER with 2 power for 2 mana in a format that's so fast that Goblin Shortcutter can be first-pick material at times. During late game, it can be used to block opposing flying bombs, or break out of stalemates.

VOTE WELKIN TERN '10.

Get the Umara Raptor ! We don't have allies yet, but still. It's a 2/2 flier for 3 on its own, but if we get other allies (and this is pack 2, pick 3, we probably can), it becomes a major threat.

April 12, 2010 5:06 a.m.

Welkin Tern wins. My own vote is for Bladetusk Boar . I am convinced at this point that 0-1 other players are drafting anything red.
