im going to have to go with Zektar Shrine Expedition .

Darkness1835 says... #2

since we've already started white, i feel like we need another creature or creature-maker to actually have some consistently. the only white card in the pack Narrow Escape seems pretty useless at this time, and everything just doesnt fit. it was between Highland Berserker and the expedition, but im still going to have to pick Zektar Shrine Expedition .

Wide-open. The only ones I'm sure we SHOULDN'T draft are Piranha Marsh and card:Trapfinder's Trick. Probably too early to pick Jwar Isle Refuge , Expedition Map , or Narrow Escape either.

That leaves Bellow, Tsunami, Giant, Minotaur, Harrow, the black ally, the red ally, and Zektar Expedition.

Of these, I narrow it down to Living Tsunami , Harrow , or Zektar Shrine Expedition . Tsunami is a 4/4 flier that can of course just win in a landfall deck, though I'm not seeing too many landfall cards so far. If you have green in your deck, Harrow basically has to be in there, especially if it's a multicolor deck. And Zektar Shrine is massive pain for your opponent.

Of these, I'm going to vote for Living Tsunami . It's the card that gives us the most guidance for the remainder of the draft.

Zektar Shrine Expedition

but I did like Harrow , Living Tsunami , and Nimana Sell-Sword it was hard to narrow. Not so crazy about the rest

Narrow Escape is white, of course. but as far as splashing goes, Harrow and Zektar Shrine Expedition are very viable options.

I'd pick Living Tsunami , if only because it's a great Limited pick and I like splashing Blue. Harrow , Zektar Shrine Expedition , and Highland Berserker are all playable though, in my opinion.

At this point, Going Boros or Naya seems to be the most apparent choice. Go for the Zektar Shrine Expedition .

I definitely say Living Tsunami . Especially with the WWK/ZEN land cycle, the land bounce can be very useful.

Erg. This pack is sub-par for p1p2, as it is, I would pick Living Tsunami it's probably the most powerful card in the pack and Blue tends to be open. Also U/W opens up some NUTS Sejiri merfolk Pack 3.

Living Tsunami

Living Tsunami .

Bluewhite flyers here I come.

March 29, 2010 1:27 a.m.

Darkness1835 says... #15

the only thing that really keeps me from picking living tsunami is that it costs 2UU. when i draft and like to keep mana symbols toa minimum just to increase the possibilites of what i can draft. yeah its a beatstick, but i'm willing to bet that there will be more of them later, maybe in a color we prefer.

March 29, 2010 1:42 a.m.

l0ki says... #16

@Darkness1835 He is a 4/4 flyer for 4! And you have one of the best removal spells in the block. You are playing Blue white. Unless the next pack is Nissa and 4 chosen and you some how get all 4, then safe to say, you're playing blue white.

TAMA says... #17

Are we including what we saw in the previous packs as part of our knowledge for this pick?

Either way the pick lies between the two aforementioned cards however given the underated nature of Ruinous Minotaur and other red cards I would be more inclined to go R/W with the Zektar Shrine Expedition and I am willing to bet the Draft Lord will agree.

@ KC and Loki don't let your love of blue go to your head the shrine is the pick (even if it is a little bit turbo...)

I think this should become a separate title yet again DPP, (draft pick/pack) articles and challenges (hint, hint oh yoda holder of the only blue to)

March 29, 2010 6:06 a.m.

KrazyCaley says... #18

@tama Yep, these packs are used continuously like in a real draft.

I think that Zektar is awesome. I just like Tsunami as it's better board presence. Zektar is fine, but it's hard to put up enough damage for it to be better than a card that gets down and stays down, helping you permanently.

Timmy green player would like to say that Primal Bellow has never disappointed in draft games. GW with Novablast Wurm! Not that we'll pick that....it'd be cool is all......

March 29, 2010 6:39 a.m.

SirNips says... #20

well seen as we had the Merfolk Seastalkers in the last pack that we expect to see again, i'd go with the Living Tsunami . Purely because you cant really afford to let that go, the hurt that that could cause is much greater than anything else in the pack. And u/w isnt a terrible combination either

then i'd be hoping for some steppe Lynx's or hedron crabs or the like in future picks.

March 29, 2010 8:12 a.m.

l0ki says... #21

Hmmm. I didn't see the Ruinous Minotaur. He is a house in draft.

March 29, 2010 8:56 a.m.

MagnorCriol says... #22

Living Tsunami, I agree.

March 29, 2010 12:49 p.m.

I'd rather not have to think too hard about my mana base. Harrow gives me acceleration and fixing in one easy card. I can't see a drawback in that. The double landfall it provides makes turning green less intimidating.

I don't want to face that Living Tsunami , but odds are good I won't. I'd pass on that and select Ruinous Minotaur as my second choice.

March 29, 2010 12:51 p.m.

Xander574 says... #24

living-stunami as a second pick you could aim for some lanfall cards, blue white work together especially with what is available in WWK. plus a four four flyer for four is pretty beastly

March 29, 2010 2:16 p.m.

I love the Living Tsunami , but I can't get away from the card advantage that Harrow brings, and it's backed up with mana fixing too. The only reservations I would have for it are the presence of Cancel and Dispel ... they can put the hurt on very well, but I'd hedge my bets as we haven't seen Cancel in the pod yet and it's null if my opponent doesn't see the Harrow coming and taps too much land. The Dispel would be my greater grievance as it can come out so early and drop me back a land. That being said, Dispel is probably more towards a game 2 sideboard unless a blue player has something that needs protecting from instants. I've got to go with Harrow on this one.

tapanmeister says... #26

Yeah, yeah. I get it. It's sad that both Paralyzing Grasp and Merfolk Seastalkers were passed to the next player. But, we didn't make a bad choice! Why? There was a lot in pack 1 to also get caught up on. As we discussed - the Hideous End , the three green commons, and (for all you noob drafters out there) the Electropotence :D were all contenders for first pick as well. This pack has the best blue uncommon in the set, and I'm willing to bet that if Caley posted the previous pack for a pick two choice, the seastalkers would make it to round three. Ruinous Minotaur and the Zektar Shrine Expedition WILL make it back around! The Tsunami will not.

Having no clue as to what the guy on our right is drafting (because he chose the rare), Living Tsunami is the correct pick for us, no question. And if worse comes to worse, we've hated a wonderful card from the guy next to us who will now regret having gone blue.

March 29, 2010 3:29 p.m.

mattlohkamp says... #27

one thing about the Living Tsunami is that in a draft, even something as simple as guarenteeing that you get to re-play a Sejiri Refuge for an extra one point of life per turn can be significant - and keep in mind, if the elemental is slowing your roll too much, you can always just stop paying the upkeep cost.

I've even seen people hold onto it and then tell me after they've lost that they had other cards in their hand that they couldn't ramp up to because they were tieing themselves down.

Harrow would make me feel better about future picks, but Living Tsunami is probably the best way to play the odds.

March 29, 2010 3:38 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #28

The only candidates in terms of votes from users are Living Tsunami and Zektar Shrine Expedition . At the end of the day I'll tally up votes for each of these and proceed with the next pick.

Remember how we are passing on all this awesome green stuff. The Zektar Shrine helps you kill a green player before they can get up on their high baloth.

i think it's too little too late, TAMA. Most people have decided on Living Tsunami , which is a shame. I think RW would do much better than UW.
