Another Trigon of Corruption to lock down? Yes please!

Um. Asceticism ?
We're not in black for sure, and if anything its a good hate pick. Maybe this doesn't play that great in limited... I'm not sure, never used it. But turn 1-4 we plop our critters and then drop this bad boy down? I'll take it.
There are no Myr here and no great artifacts for pick 3. I'm pretty sure one of these mediocre artifacts will table. If no one agrees and it comes down to the artifacts, I'd change my vote to Barbed Battlegear as I'm still not sold on the Trigon (especially having 2).

ethier siez the initiative or exengunatate.
you never know when a little +1 +1 first strike could help.
or even a crazy life drain spell late game ftw!!!!
sorry about my grammar....

Here is my concern w/ the Barbed Battlegear we currently only have 3 creatures that can actually equip it with out killing themselves, on the upside 2 of them when equipped get 1st strike so that is something at least.... as to what we should be picking at this point.... i am not certain. Snap sail, exsanguinate, strider harnes, trigon, heck even hate on the aceticism....or possibly the barbed... yeah just not sure. Gonna see how this thread plays out some, before making a decision.

So... who here has ever ACTUALLY drafted SOM?
Trigon of Corruption is the definite pick. You should be sold on picking as many of these as you can nab. Whether its used only for removal, comboing for reusable removal with Glint Hawk , Stag or Hippogriff, or whether its aggressively fueling our metalcraft, it will always be an auto include in whatever deck we end up drafting. The Snapsail Glider is a distant second pick, it does a decent job fueling itself into becoming an artifact creature with evasion.
I used to say it all the time, but Hate Drafting is not an effective use of your early pack picks, especially in a set where you would be wise to grab artifacts if you aren't sure (or even if you are). If you hate draft a card like Asceticism , chances are you won't even end up playing against that deck in the swiss, and if you do, it may not even get dropped, or even maindecked. Asceticism is a sick looking card printed in a limited environment that makes it totally suck. Heres why:
Trigon of Corruption , 100%.

Tapan, well-made argument. I really have no clue how useful Asceticism would be. I have drafted SOM and I have drafted white metalcraft. The only Trigon I've enjoyed playing with was the red one. But, sounds like you've had more experience in the set than I.
I'll change my vote to Trigon of Corruption . But you better be right! :P

My first SOM draft, I went with Sunspear Shikari and mostly mediocre equipment. I went undefeated, not losing a single game. Second SOM draft, I went with GB infect. I lost to the guy playing Sunspear Shikari and some mediocre equipment. Tried and failed with Metalcraft in another. Got pushed around in a big draft and wasn't able to establish a solid deck in the latest. Guy who won did it with metalcraft.
So, not much experience on my part, but I'm still pretty comfortable advocating either of the equipment. It works with metalcraft and with our Shikari. Personally, I'd take Barbed Battlegear over Strider Harness .

@ SupremeAlliesCommander: I'd take the battlegear over the harness too... if those were the only cards in question. The point I was trying to make earlier is that in a deck like ours which is pointing towards abusing metalcraft, 3rd picking a mediocre green enchantment is a terrible choice. Your choice is a great one: You are advocate a pick that would be used in whatever deck we draft. And would definitely be a welcome addition.
The same goes for the trigon, except the synergy between the trigons and white bounce (and resurrection) creatures (like the Glimmerpoint Stag we already have) makes cards which we might want (like Glint Hawk ) especially useful in longer games because they reset our removal.
Additionally, with multiple copies of the trigon, we maximize its potential. Imagine our opponent equipping Barbed Battlegear to his Sunspear Shikari . We drop trigon and kill the lion instantly. The same can be said for nearly every nuisance x/1 in the format: Plague Stinger , Goblin Gaveleer , Myrsmith , Blight Mamba , Vedalken Certarch ... Ichorclaw Myr .. come to think of it, every myr! Even Darksteel Myr ! The list could go on...
Don't worry, i'm sure we'll be picking up more equipment soon for our shikari, but its safer to pick a card which does something on its own: the Trigon operates without needing a creature to equip to. I say this having lost my gaveleers and topdecking an Infiltration Lens for a loss in my last draft - whereas a trigon in that spot might have saved me. And having two improves consistency and deck power through strong removal and metalcraft.

I think i am going to toss my support behind the Trigon of Corruption
November 22, 2010 10:08 p.m.
trigon of corruption unless someone gives a good arguement for barbed battle gear.
November 23, 2010 12:53 a.m.
Trigon of Corruption is the best pick.
that green deck is gonna be brutal if it gets going -- Asceticism + Engulfing Slagwurm . ugh.
battlegear is good, but removal is king. remember BREAD.

Trigon of Corruption is so good removal. But I'm not sad if we take the Battlegear for our Shikari
