In addition to the cards exarkun809 mentioned I believe Turn to Slag is strong. That said, my vote goes to Origin Spellbomb .

I think this pack screams for us to go red as our second color, it looks WIDE OPEN.
Oxidda Scrapmelter AND Turn to Slag !!
Bloodshot Trainee is even good.
We already have a Red mana Myr.
Our pick needs to be the Scrapmelter or Turn to Slag
They are both great cards and are both removal.
Turn to Slag might be the best removal card in the set.

Except that it's 5 CMC and a sorcery. I realize it's powerful and very utilitarian, and definitely has a number of times it can shine, but an expensive sorcery-speed spell can't be better removal than, say a 1-mana-for-4 damage instant, or a 3-mana instant that can force an opponent to sac to creatures, even shrouded ones.
I agree about leaning red, though. At the least we could splash it a bit I think. I think Oxidda Scrapmelter is my vote...though again, that Origin Spellbomb is pretty attractive too. I just think we need to get some heavier creatures now more than we need its utility.

I like the Origin Spellbomb and the Painsmith In this scenario i believe the painsmith is the right choice. We are planning to play an artifact heavy deck, and giving one of our creatures +2 and Death touch, is pretty darn powerful every time we play an artifact.

Why aren't we in red, again?
Oxidda Scrapmelter is one of the best cards in this set for draft -- hopefully that's beyond argument. It's a 3/3 body in a set that doesn't have lots of tough creatures, and it's removal. I know people are gonna say that it's too late to get into red, but we keep skipping these great red cards; there will still be time to at least keep red as a second-color option if we start now. and seriously, Oxidda Scrapmelter ought to be a first or second pick. We're lucky that it's still around. (and a little scared of what else might've come out of this pack).
Oxidda Scrapmelter is my vote, in case that wasn't clear.

Bloodshot Trainee is the pick if we want to keep up the heavy equipment theme of the Sunspear Shikari s we already have.
But Oxidda Scrapmelter is always useful. Time to grab it.

This pack screams GO RED. I think we have our second color, if this keeps up.
Scrapmelter is the pick, as much as I like a good painsmith.

SCRAPMELTER! It does two things by itself. painsmith is awesome, but its a conduit, not a multitasker.

Guys i think this is a false red signal. While it is flowing in pack two, it really wasn't so much in pack 1, which means it probably won't be in pack 3. Any how that is my concern. Admittedly at the end of pack one i was advocating red, but seems like we are kinda past that decision point now....but who knows maybe it will work out. How do you all feel about a tri color deck? Guess we had best be on the look out for some more mana fixing.... Oh and why does everyone hate black so much?

Oxidda Scrapmelter is great, and we don't even have to move to red, we can just splash it
December 1, 2010 2:43 a.m.
Yeah our existing black is Dross Hopper , Psychic Miasma , and painful-quandry..not exactly cards that shine in any deck.
Obviously we also have the double Trigon of Corruption currently but with how aggressive our build is if we ever have to reload those we're probably in bad shape anyways.
The Oxidda Scrapmelter is the clear pick here. The rule of thumb is removal over creatures, especially solid instant speed removal like Shatter . But when you have a Hill Giant that is also a Shatter ..well that's just an easy 6th pick.
We pick Oxidda Scrapmelter here for the same reason people are happy to first pick a Skinrender .

Warning: Oxidda Scrapmelter is a two-edged sword. When it enters it HAS to destroy something, even if it's yours.
Other options are Origin Spellbomb , very good for metalcraft and Turn to Slag MUCH more powerful than the Scrapmelter, but forces us to red.
This said Oxidda Scrapmelter is a tough card in this set, opens red for us while not commiting to it since it might be splashed. I vote for it.

@Kaythal,
It is definitely worth mentioning that it isn't a "may" but rather a "must". Misplaying it can really hurt in some situations.
That being said the set is 37.6% artifact, and every sealed deck runs a sizable number of them.

err rather every "limited" deck in SOM.
Apparently it's still to early to be posting @@ =/

Bloodshot Trainee + Painsmith is a fun combo.
I think it's either Oxidda Scrapmelter , Painsmith or Origin Spellbomb .
We don't have any red, but Oxidda Scrapmelter is nasty... it gets my vote.
