Ulgris' Mythic Rare
The votes were pretty close but the card that pulled through was Ulgris' Blightforce:
Ulgris' Blightforce was designed by BrownDog5117. During voting there was a lot of concern that the originally submitted form of Ulgris' Blightforce was overpowered. It originally didn't enter the battlefield tapped and the ability also allowed you to draw a card. Since it required you to have a creature in your graveyard as a target, we originally thought it would be okay to also draw a card. Admittedly, we were probably wrong. So, we removed the added effect of drawing a card. The reason we made it come into the battlefield tapped is so the opponent could get the opportunity the destroy Ulgris' Blightforce at sorcery speed before its ability could be used. If it ends up still being too powerful later on, during play testing, we'll add a loss of life to the ability's cost.
The Ulgris Green Rare Challenge
Here are the guidelines for our newest challenge:
1) Each submitted card must be monogreen.
2) We are going to be creating one creature, one enchantment, and one instant or sorcery.
3) Each submitted card should be rare.
4) The only keywords that may appear on submitted cards are Wither (Ulgris' keyword) and evergreen keywords. For your convenience, the evergreen keywords are deathtouch, defender, double strike, enchant, equip, first strike, flash, flying, haste, indestructible, intimidate, landwalk, lifelink, protection, reach, regenerate, shroud, trample, and vigilance. Remember, just because you're allowed to use a keyword, doesn't mean it really belongs on Ulgris. For example, lifelink doesn't really fit Ulgris flavor-wise.
5) Each person may submit a maximum of four entries total. You may have all of your entries be one type (four creatures, for example) or you can submit several different types (one creature, two enchantments, and one sorcery, for example).
6) We will be judging based on the following criteria: a) Effectiveness (Does the card actually work mechanics-wise?) b) Set Cohesion (Does the card belong in its color and does it belong on Ulgris?) c) Balance (Is the card too overpowered or underpowered both in general and for its rarity?) d) Creativity (Does the card seem fun or is it a clever design?)
To help inspire you, here's a summary of Ulgris:
Ulgris is a simple place. Imagine a peat bog with a dense canopy cover that makes everything perpetually dark. The waters in this region are a network of underground rivers, and the standing water in the bogs and estuaries go from salt to brackish to fresh water. The easy way to describe this place is dangerous. Everything is deadly, poisonous, and the ground is covered in writhing bugs. This area has no real society. Most species found here can mate and procreate shortly after they are born and eat nearly anything. Survival is key. There are few, if any, sentient beings found here.
The main creature types of Ulgris are Bat, Fish, Frog, Fungus, Insect, Leech, Lizard, Ooze, Plant, Rat, Snake, Spider, and Worm.
The themes of Ulgris are:
1) Dangerous Creatures (Particularly those with deathtouch, flash, and wither)
2) Defenses (Particularly countering target activated and triggered abilities, regeneration, and shroud)
3) Graveyard Manipulation (Particularly milling and reanimation)
4) Token Creation
5) -1/-1 Counter Effects/Manipulation
The deadline for entries is Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. Good luck to everyone!

Uncommons and commons will be done differently than the rares. Here's the current plan: there will be a couple of challenges to create an entire uncommon cycle. Then, the Head Team will add uncommons to the set based the mechanics on cards that users submitted, but didn't make it into the set. Any remaining uncommon space will be filled via challenge, but these challenges will have more guidance, likely requiring the fulfillment of specific card archetypes. The commons will be created solely by the Head Team. However, depending on how successful the uncommon cycle challenges are, a couple common cycles may be added via challenge.
There are also more mythic rares that need to be created. The way these will be created is currently a secret. I'm personally excited about it though and I think the community will like it as well. :)

Why 3/6 for 6? It's a dragon killer. 5/5 dragon attacks you, this thing beats the poop out of it. First it weakens it to a 2/2, then it blocks it with 4 toughness to spare - enough to survive a Lightning Bolt

I wasn't sure if mono-green meant activated abilities couldn't have black or blue costs, but here it is anyway:
King Poison Dart 5G
Legendary Creature - Frog
Flash, Deathtouch
Frogs you control have "UB, T: Put a -1/-1 counter on target creature. Draw a card."
3/5
It's really a blue/black creature in the form of a green creature. Thought it would make for interesting game-play.
October 17, 2010 6:10 a.m.
Creature: Poison Treefrog
And by "treefrog," I mean a massive organism that's part tree and part frog.
October 17, 2010 10:46 a.m.
@Jarrod_0067 I'm assuming its like every other create a card contest where mono green only means casting cost. Mana symbols in other areas are fine as long as they are of the appropriate shard.

IronHead is correct. You may have blue and/or black mana symbols in the rules text, just not in the casting cost.

@dude1818 yes, infect could fit. But we had decided on what keywords each of the negeshards would have before infect was released. It would also be copying scars, and we're more original than that.
@Yourman Wicked idea, but i think it costs too much. 10 mana for a "finisher" is fairly expensive. Most games don't last that long. I'd say 3G for the cost and 3 for the kicker. But that's just me. Epic card, i must say

@exarkun809 I love Nature's Silence, Nature's Scream! although it would be very difficult to play in a multicoloured deck because of it's cost but i love the concept. Unnatural Nature is very cool as well. Powerful yet balanced. And Xyrnix is awesome. My only query is if it needs deathtouch in the sacrifice ability. I feel it could be replaced with a better keyword or removed completely (It would still be powerful enough). Regardlessly, I still think it's awesome

@leon_raymond Thanks! I like all these challenges, but this one is real tough/fun trying to make mono-green AND Ulgris concepts.
I'm fine with altering the details in the final round if they make it (I always have trouble coming up with the right costs and abilities), so long as people like the core concepts of the cards.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I'm old-school, and I went with the wording from old buddy Thorn Thallid , since the two critters probably play softball together at family reunions. You're right about the rest of it, too. Again, I went old school. I was in a mood. : )
