Sunspear Shikari . Worst case scenario its a 2/2 for 2 which isn't terrible in limited.

October 17, 2010 10:24 p.m.

I'd go for Vigil for the Lost if this set didn't have poison. As it is I agree on Sunspear Shikari

Lets take the Blade-Tribe Berserkers in the hopes that we can do a metalcraft theme. If we have 3 artifacts out then he becomes a 6/6. Pretty powerful. Plus boros is a good combo in this draft.

@DeckBuilder345 just to be clear, the +3/+3 on Blade-Tribe Berserkers also wears off at EOT, yes?

all the same, they get my vote -- a 6/6 for haste, even for just a turn, can really change the game. and if he sticks around as a 3/3 for 4, that's not the end of the world, either.

Blade-Tribe Berserkers - launch it with metal craft (and never otherwise) and it's eefing scary. & you still have a 3/3 for keeps, which is great with all the 2/2s in this set.

Also, we already have a shakiri and only one piece of equipment.

Also also, red is a great second colour to pick, and seems not to be over-subscribed.

  1. there is so much arifact removal in this set...so most of the time the berserker will be 3/3 (if played in third or 4th round).
  2. he don't has trample.. so the enemy just blocks it with a Perilous Myr or sth.

so I vote for the Sunspear Shikari

Sunspear Shikari is good, it gets my vote. I won't be upset if we get the berserkers, though.

Ditto what bosheck wrote.

i'm a big fan of Psychic Miasma but Sunspear Shikari is likely a better choice

While I believe it is normally debatable between sunspear shikari and the berserkers, and maybe even furnace celebration, we've only drafted white cards right now. I think the risk of taking an 'okay' red card over an 'okay' white card is too high since the shortly arriving rare in the next pack may determine the 2nd color.

@airy

Your argument against the berserker seems to be 'metalcraft will never work.' which is ridiculous, and even if we don't have MC turned on, berserkers are still a 3/3, which is (let me check while I do the math on this) bigger than a 2/2 shikari. and there's so much artifact removal that we'll never actually get to equip the shikari . . .

@Levgre the berserkers are a better 'okay' card than the shikari, and the idea that we shouldn't take the best possible card because we might get something better in the future doesn't hold water. Especially in the first pack, you take the best card out of every pack, almost without exception. the shikari isn't worth breaking that rule for, and the berserker has a much bigger upside than the shikari -- the possibility of getting in for 6 damage that the opponent doesn't see coming, and leaving a 3/3 on the board is much better than a 2/2 that has to be equipped and that the opponent can plan around.

@Battlecry1986 I hear you -- Psychic Miasma is underrated. but berserkers is the right pick here.

"there's so much artifact removal that we'll never actually get to equip the shikari" No. No. No! 'Baneslayer dies to doomblade, it's terrible.' You wouldn't say that, would you?

The way the deck is shaping up now we WILL have equipment on the board (especially after two more packs to get what we need/want), and it WILL win us games.

Blade-Tribe Berserkers . This late in the pack we're not even necessarily looking at things we'll end up maindecking- we're picking the best option from what's presented to us. In this circumstance, Metalcraft is more reliable (and cheaper) than equipping something. The berserkers are a surprisingly solid card to have reached us this late. Additionally, I never feel sad about ending up W/R in Scars.

exarkun809 says... #15

This one is a pure coinflip for me. Berserkers is slightly better, but we WILL use the Sunspear and it's a very good late round pick up.

But, a 6/6 flying, first strike, haste (with pinions) is too tempting. I vote Berserkers.

October 19, 2010 11:33 a.m.

@ landot yes the +3/+3 and haste wears off at end of turn.

dr.-mcmeen has the right of it, we need to pick the best option of what is presented to us, and as he stated boros is good in scars. Also landot had some good arguments above. A surprise swing for 6 can truly wreak some havock on an opponent it then reverts back to a 3/3 the next turn which still is enough to take down even a first striking Sunspear Shikari . Plus we only have 1 equipment, we are definitely going to get more artifacts but we may not see much more in the way of equipment.

October 19, 2010 12:33 p.m.

If there's so much removal that we'll never equip one artifact on the Sunspear Shikari , how is it that we'll keep three for the Blade-Tribe Berserkers ? The fact that good equipment is somewhat rare is a greater concern for me. Not enough to vote against the Shikari, but it's a better argument.

The Berserkers are a fine pick, but I think first strike is ever-so-valuable when facing infect decks. I find that good blocking is more important than big attackers for this set. It's one reason that wall we passed is an under-appreciated card. Against other builds, lifelink provides a safety net in the event that an opponents nails us with evasive creatures before we draw answers. We can race bigger creatures with it.

I can be talked into the Berserkers, but it will take a plan for the card. Because she's in white and we already have good equipment, the Shikari doesn't require much as much explanation.

October 19, 2010 12:59 p.m.

Eleleth says... #18

@SupremeAlliesCommander We do not have good equipment. We have a single decent piece of equipment that will give the berserker first strike anyway.

Boros metalcraft is an eminently viable strategy, mono-white equipment is not.

you all make good points but Levgre was right when he said

"we've only drafted white cards right now. I think the risk of taking an 'okay' red card over an 'okay' white card is too high since the shortly arriving rare in the next pack may determine the 2nd color"

@ SupremeAlliesCommander and bosheck

take a deep breath and read the entire thread.

when I said and there's so much artifact removal that we'll never actually get to equip the shikari . . . " I was employing a rhetorical device known as sarcasm, in response to airy's comment there is so much arifact removal in this set...so most of the time the berserker will be 3/3"

my point being that artifact removal screws with both potential picks.

You're right. I first read your post as an e-mail (subscription thingy), rather than in the context of the thread. My bad. :(
