Hello, folks.
Wait, what happened to the other Draft Debate?
It got suspended so we could run a SOM debate to get you all juiced up for the SOM release! We'll come back to it after this one is done, promise. And hopefully I'll move this one forward a bit faster. The last bit of information on that:
Last card in the last Future Sight pack was Dakmor Salvage. The deck as it stands is at FC11 DDD Deck. Onward!
Scars of Mirrodin/Scars of Mirrodin/Scars of Mirrodin
The drafters-
Tappedout: You have become one with Tappedout. Your biological and technological distinctiveness have been added to it.
Sectoid- 1 prior DDD appearance in ROE, finished 5th with a 3-4 record and some bad luck; did manage to be the only one to defeat Elaine's terrifying leveler deck.
Raynor- Canny drafting veteran who is also currently drafting against us in the FC11 DDD.
Bernard- Finished 5th in the ZEN-ZEN-WWK DDD with a 3-4 record.
Reaper- 7th with a 2-5 record in ROE.
"Shetland" is a newcomer to DDD, and while he's a decent magic player who's been playing since Alara block, this is his first time drafting.
"Grim" is a rank beginner who I taught how to play Magic three weeks ago. She is nevertheless already quite a strong player who understands the rules better than many veteran players. Her favorite spell is Memory Erosion because it makes her opponents sad. I have taught her well.
"Fisher" has been playing since the game came out and is a regular force to be reckoned with at FNM. His current type 2 weapon of choice is Primeval Ramp, which he pilots with expert skill. Also a very deadly drafter; beware!
Pack-cracking time. Let's scar us some Mirrodin.
This pack
Swamp
This is a tough one....I'm thinking that revoke existence might be a good pick, its the only artifact removal in this pack. But necrotic ooze is such a versatile and useful card.
I vote for the ooze, but let's keep an eye on those infect critters and the artifact hate. We don't wanna build a deck that has no answers to infect and metalcraft.

my first instinct is Furnace Celebration . I actually think there's a pretty strong draft deck that can be built around it. But I know how much my fellow hive-minders like drafting red, so . . . there's nothing amazing here in the format. Necrotic Ooze needs a constructed deck -- look at this pack, for instance; one activated ability, and it's mana-making. Not a first pick; let some other sucker fall into that trap. I vote removal; either Bonds of Quicksilver or Revoke Existence .

don't count out Trigon of Rage that card is sick with our without an infect deck.

@guitarhero. true that. great card, and if we see another one, I'm all over it. but removal wins drafts.

Hmm, landot makes a fair point. I change my vote to revoke existence...bonds of quicksilver just seems like an expensive narcolpesy. I don't know if the flash is worth 2 more colorless.

Revoke Existence or Necrotic Ooze
Hmm the ooze moves as deep into black because we need 2 swamps. revoke existence could be splashed.. the Ooze is not the best bomb, if it is a bomb at all...I'm not shure, but i vote for Revoke Existence

Yes but if someone else opens a Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon , Molten-Tail Masticore , Steel Hellkite just to name a few it becomes much more relevant. So i think its probably worth the risk of taking it.
If thats not convincing enough to take it then we should go either with the Trigon of Rage or Revoke Existence

Trigon of Rage is main deck in anything. A good first pick before we see what kinds of things get passed to us.

Granted I have NO experience in this set, it seems like removal is at a premium. White artifacts seems to be (again... total speculation) the most attractive deck to draft for me with cards like Arrest Dispense Justice Glimmerpoint Stag Razor Hippogriff Revoke Existence Myrsmith and all the metalwork creatures.
The other obvious one seems to be infect. A few grip-of-darkness and some Black and Green infectors should win games.
I think red and blue are tough to build around, and seem better as support colors.
I don't think Necrotic Ooze's ability will ever come into play. But, it's not a bad card. However, I think Trigon of Rage is the pick. It will be in our deck no matter what colors we play. Maybe the Sunspear Shikari comes around or we get a few Plague Stinger s... either way, I'd love to have the Trigon out there with them.
Plus, I really want to draft white : )

Necrotic Ooze is an aggressively costed creature whose ability --will-- be relevant. My vote lies there.

Revoke Existence - Unfortunate that it's a sorcery, but it's still removal. Cards have to get into graveyards before Necrotic Ooze becomes potent.

Cards to consider IMO:
Necrotic Ooze a powerful bomb
Plague Stinger a winning strategy-(maybe too much. I've seen a huge amount of people drafting poison)
Bonds of Quicksilver removal with instant speed
Sunspear Shikari a early-game beater
I vote Necrotic Ooze .
