Chavest White Rare Finalists

## Angelic Elite
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
The design team thought that it needed flying being an angel, and with that either a cost increase to 3WW or reduction in P/T to 3/3.
## Dispensable Guard
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Since it has an activated ability that will trigger the triggered ability, I think the triggered ability should put the new card either on top of the library or in hand.
## Goddess on the Prairie
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Some concerns that the loss of life isn't a white ability, perhaps make it only if you control a black perm? Also the design team thought that this should be a cleric, not an angel (which might need a name change)
## Guardian of Chavest
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Suggestions included removing the damage dealing part (a bit much for a rare that isalready a fog + a flying body), and with that increasing its P/T to 4/4.
## Imperialist Archangel
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Given that it's name contains archangel an increase to 5/5 would be in order, and reducing the payment to 1R instead of RR.
##Just Retribution
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
We were in agreement that the colored part should be WW instead of WWW, making the casting cost 3WW or 4WW, let us know if you vote for this.
##Knight of Atrem
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Suggestion include: make the abilities trigger from combat damage and make it a 1/1
##The Last Commandment
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Since it effect opponents perms as well, CMC should decrease.
##Viashino Acolyte
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
suggestion include: putting card into your hand, reducing casting cost to 1WW or 2W.
##War of Attrition
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Since you just keep picking is there any reason this coundn't be an instant? also suggested was dropping the non basic land restriction and just making it target permanents - this is War after all.
###Information about Chavest. Chavest is scrublands that lead to a treacherous volcanic range. The general tone for the shard is nihilistic and dark. Chavest is a land united under an iron rule, after a series of bitter conflicts and adjustments. ####Main Creature Types 1) demons - bound to Chavest by an unknown being Demons are generally humanoid but with massively muscular bodies, twisted, horned faces, clawed limbs, and in many cases leathery wings, demons embody the suffering and evil desires of ordinary races.
2) angels - also bound to Chavest by an unknown being, Angels have an extremely strong sense of justice and often devote their lives - and their deaths - to its cause, whatever it may be.
3) humans - Tough minded, hearty and adaptable.
4) imps - imps are barely-sentient, feral pests.
5) viashino - The Viashino are intelligent humanoids with lean, muscular builds. These Lizard-Folk are descended from dragons. Quick, agile, and vicious when required.
6) pheonix - rare and special, the pheonix embodies the driving force of the current, all encompassing Chavest faith, Redemption through destruction. ####Note : We are allowing creatures to be Angels and Demons at the same time. Subtypes include: knight, cleric, judge, barbarian/berserker, rogue. ####Themes/Mechanics Cleave X (whenever this creature deals combat damage to a blocking creature it deals X damage to that creatures controller.)
The mechanics of course include the evergreen keywords (deathtouch, defender, double strike, enchant, equip, first strike, flash, flying, haste, indestructible, intimidate, landwalk, lifelink, protection, reach, regenerate, shroud, trample, and vigilance). ####To Recap : Main Types : demons, angels, humans, imps, viashino, phoenix. Subtypes : knight, cleric, judge, barbarian/berserker, rogue. General themes are land destruction, sweepers, burn, creature removal, Life Gain/Drain, anti-land, and sacrifice.

hmmm... two of my submissions made it in... I wasn't expecting even one... lol. I'll do a breakdown on them both and then decide after.

Goddess on the prairie:When I first designed this card, I wanted a card that has a card with a global ability, but one that if you play right, will benefit you more than harm you. (see Manabarbs ) Maybe black permanent, or black land. :P As for the name, i beleive a name change is required and i completly agree with the cleric thing, i just grabbed the names of my first two card submissions from songs, (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyI0Op4t5QU the song starts two minutes in)

The last commandment:Geez, I completely forgot about it being a global effect... i feel dumb now... Either way, i don't know whether to keep the mana cost as is and change it to your own permanents, as was originally intended, or lower the mana cost and keep the effect...

And for my final decision, I think I will vote for, drum roll please, GODDESS ON THE PRAIRIE, or whatever it's new name will be. Two of my submission made it in, I feel spoiled...

I vote for Just Retribution. I support the cost change to 4WW.

I agree that Angelic Elite should have flying if it wins, and PS: "goddess" has two D's.

Am I the only one to have realized that just retribution Is destroy all non-basic land permanents? For 4 mana???? It just makes the destroying more interesting...

I mean war of attrition, sorry.

Viashino Acolyte!

My one suggestion would be to change it to hand instead of putting it on top of your library.

Sorry for the confusion folks. You should actually be voting for your top 3 cards from this group. There are 3 white rare slots in Chavest. Please recast votes.

  1. War of Attrition- I like this card mostly because it feels like Chavest. You're battle wills with your opponents and might end up making decisions that are rash or not completely the best decision, but you'll do it for their pain.

I agree that the basic land constriction should be dropped, it only enhances the feel, and its not as if basic land destruction (a trait of Chavest) is under priced at four mana.

  1. Knight of Atrem- I'm not a huge fan of the exile-touch, but I like the [[Silence on a creature ability enough (for both play and flavor) to give it my vote. I do think it's a little good for it's price, but wonder if making it a 1/1 is the solution. 1/1s just feel so weak, which this doesn't. Maybe 2/1 for the feel, but it retains it's ease to kill?
  2. Dispensable Guard- I definitely agree that it should not go to the battlefield. I would say on top of you library, as this seems very good against anything but token decks. Perhaps to your hand or into play with an additional activation cost for the ability?

Smuggy says... #9

Whoops, that should be 1, 2, 3, and Silence .

Prophylaxis says... #10

How should I begin? Hmm..

  1. Knight of Atrem

I first started giving this thing exile-touch and I know I wanted it to happen on players, but how to implement this correctly? I decided to give it Silence + on a stick after much thought and consideration.

I do feel that it's not too strong, as a 2/2 for 1WW is not a bargain, check out Loyal Sentry for just randomly sticking deathtouch on a appropriately-costed card, and the Silence on a stick only makes all your spells have split second in your second main phase, which would be great against control.

If it's too powerful, raise the cost to 2WW, and put combat damage there - I forgot to. The cost just feels right at 2/2, and Smuggy's right - 1/1 isn't a acceptable place for a Knight!

  1. Guardian of Chavest

I came up with the name first and worked backwards from there. I wanted it to have a "Guardian" type ability but history has shown us that damage prevention is even worse than life gain, so I decided to give the damage prevention a little pizazz. I do admit it can lead to wildly broken situations (I swing 20 for win! Sorry, but you died instead) but I still feel that it is solidly designed. You can take out the damage-dealing aspect if you want - this isn't Razia, Boros Archangel .

  1. The Last Commandment

As a Johnny (though Timmy is starting to creep in a lot) this tickles my nerves. I would love to put this in a White infect deck as a finisher. I would decrease the cost to 5 or 6 CMC.

Knight of Atrem - I like this a whole lot. it's a white version of deathtouch. there doesn't really seem to be much reason to make it a 1/1 . . . if you have to nerf it, maybe make it a 1/2, so it can at least win fights with 1/1 tokens? but 2/2 is no big deal -- he still dies to bolts, shocks, and perilous myrs, and knights are usually 2/2. Agree that his second ability should only trigger on combat damage.

Guardian of Chavest - I agree that it shouldn't deal damage -- that's not a very white ability. but there's no need to increase it's P/T --it's already a one-sided Wrath of God most of the time. 3/3, flying, flash, Safe Passage is more than enough good stuff for 4 mana.

War of Attrition - People seem to favor removing the non-basic restriction, so that's fine. I don't think it should be an instant, though -- casting it during combat or end steps seems like it could be a serious hoser. It's either a wrath or a Vindicate , neither of which have ever been printed at instant speed. Side note: I love this card. Imagine dropping it in a multiplayer game.

  1. Angelic elite: Flying could be added, with a P/T of 3/3. I believe I read somewhere that the angels and demons of Chavest had been mixing with humanoids so the drop in P/T seems reasonable and more in line with a knights P/T.
  2. Just retribution: This card is awesome and fits in nicely as a pure white card and with the flavour of Chavest. I think the cost could be changed to 4WW as it can be a day, geddon, creeping corrosion or more so the extra 2 mana to give yourself the choice seems fair.
  3. War of attrition: Fits strongly with the theme of Chavest, destroy everything so the world can start anew. I would change the text slightly to: Destroy target permanent. Then that permanent's controller may copy this spell and choose a new target for the copy.
April 18, 2011 1:01 p.m.

Guardian of ChavestI agree w/ design team no damage and make it a 4/4

Viashino AcolyteI like the suggestion to put him into your hand... as to the cost.. not sure he is in effect a 4/1 with 2 power being first strike so he can survive small attacks.... If we decrease the casting cost i would go w/ 1ww.

Imperialist Archangel - my favroite of the 3 i choose. The change over to 1(R) for the activated ability makes a lot of sense... i don't know if a first striker flier should get the 5/5 treatment though...In fact i think one of 3 things is possible. 1. a 5/3 first striker (now it is in bolt range) 2. a 4/5 first striker, or 3. make it a 5/4 so it can at least be flame slashed... i would prefer 1 or 2 however.

Imperialist Archangle - I feel that Timmy's are under represented in this set. However I also feel that while changing the cost to 1r is fair upping it to 5/5 would make it over powered. If you do that you should bump its cost up by 1 and remove the nonbasic clause.

Knight of Atrem - Love this card and feel the no change is neccessary.

Just Retribution - Every set needs a good wraith variant. I feel the cost is fair though 4ww could work to.

1) War of Attrition

I personally think that making it an instant and casting it on your opponents end step could be a little much but that can only be decided by play testing. I really like the card as is, taking away the non-basic land clause would be nice though.

2) Just Retribution

I'm a sucker for Wrath of God effects, and this one is pretty cool. A cost reduction would be nice, probably to WW3. Looks like a fun card to play with.

3) Guardian of Chavest

Haze Frog 's big brother says hi. All in all seems like a fun card to run. The damage reflection is a little much for this guy, if you want to add that bump cost to 5 CMC and rarity to Mythic (yes I know that train has passed us by, just a suggestion if it were a real card).

1: Just Retribution (change cost to 4WW)

2: Goddess on the Prairie (make into cleric)

3: Imperialist Archangel (boost to 5/5)

April 19, 2011 2:11 p.m.

yyd says... #17

  1. imperialist archangel( boost to 5/5 or vigilance)
  2. War of Attrition (keep it the way it is. if it was any permanent, then its a white soft reset, which isnt something that makes sense in this set)
3.The Last Commandment( change it to each other permanent you control is indestructible and keep the CMC. Its one of those cards that screams johnnyrific that needs to be in the set)

  1. Just Retribution with cost set to 4WW
  2. Imperialist Archangel with both changes.
  3. The Last Commandment with cost also 4WW.
April 20, 2011 4:19 p.m.

maxtheax says... #19

  1. Goddess on the Praire, turn into cleric, maybe do something with black permanent or land.
  2. The Last Commandment, either keep CMC as is, and change to each other permanent you control, my original intent, or lower CMC to five or six and keep the ability as is.
  3. Viashino Acolite, I kinda like this card as is.
April 20, 2011 6:45 p.m.

1) Viashino Acolyte: I think it could probably be changed to going into the hand.

2) War of Attrition: This card seems ridiculously cool. Its giving me this cool Chain of Plasma /Chain of Vapor vibe that I think will be really fun. My only suggestion would be to change its name so it has the word 'Chain' in it. :P

3) Gaurdian of Chavest: I think this card is just a bad version of Haze Frog , but since Haze Frog is the best card printed, what can you expect? (in all seriousness, it could probably be changed to 3WW)

April 21, 2011 2:33 p.m.

Yourman says... #21

going with Angelic Elite.change cost to 3WW and add flying.

Also Viashino Acolyte CMC is fine make go to hand sounds good.

Just Retribution is final pick. CMC is fine.My one problem is instants and sorceries are not normally permanents so it should not be able to destroy those nor tribal since that is pretty much an add on to another card type.

April 21, 2011 6:35 p.m.

dude1818 says... #22

The reminder text on Just Retribution is standard text for cards that mention card types. It can't actually destroy instants or sorceries; however, those are card types.
