Caley's deck: Crawling Chaos - Crawling Chaos is brought to you by Hipster Nyarlathotep: "The Colour out of Space only eats organic."

Game 1

Caley wins the toss and plays first. He keeps a hand of Swamp, Darkslick Shores, 2x Think Twice, Dissipate, Life's Finale, and Army of the Damned.

Enemy mulligans to 5.

Hellooooo, card advantage.

T1

C plays Darkslick Shores and passes.

E plays Mountain for Stromkirk Noble and passes.

RDW again?

T2

C draws Bloodline Keeper  Flip, plays Swamp, and passes.

E plays a Mountain and attacks with Stromkirk Noble, which hits. (Enemy 20, Caley 19). E passes. End step, Caley casts Think Twice drawing Corrupted Conscience.

T3

C draws Swamp and plays it. He passes.

E plays Mountain and attacks with his 2/2 Stromkirk Noble, which hits. (Enemy 20, Caley 17). E casts Stormblood Berserker. E passes. End step, Caley flashes back Think Twice drawing Skinrender.

As Dr. Malcolm said, "Must go faster."

T4

C draws Dissipate.

Rats.

C casts Think Twice drawing Darkslick Shores. He plays Darkslick Shores and passes.

E plays a mountain and attacks with his two 3/3s. (Enemy 20, Caley 11). He casts Shrine of Burning Rage and passes.

Last thing I needed right now.

T5

C draws Island and plays it. He casts Skinrender destroying Stormblood Berserker, then passes.

E plays a Mountain and attacks with a 4/4 Stromkirk Noble. Caley chop-blocks with Skinrender. E passes. (Enemy 20, Caley 11, Shrine 1).

T6

C draws Drowned Catacomb and plays it. He casts Corrupted Conscience on Stromkirk Noble and passes.

I might be able to infect him to death before he can get me with the Shrine.

E plays a Mountain and passes. (Enemy 20, Caley 11, Shrine 2).

T7

C draws Reassembling Skeleton. He attacks with Stromkirk Noble. (Enemy 20 4p, Caley 11, Shrine 2). He casts the Skeleton and passes.

E casts Goblin Fireslinger and passes. (Enemy 20 4p, Caley 11, Shrine 4). End step, Caley flashes back Think Twice drawing Island.

I could counter this, but I would prefer to save it for something more immediately dangerous.

T8

C draws Swamp. He plays Island, then attacks with Stromkirk Noble. E chop-blocks with Goblin Fireslinger. C casts Bloodline Keeper  Flip and passes.

E casts Chandra's Phoenix. C Dissipates it. E plays a Mountain and passes.

T9

C draws Bloodline Keeper  Flip. He plays a Swamp, then attacks with Stromkirk Noble, which hits. (Enemy 20 9p, Caley 11, Shrine 6). C passes.

As long as I keep him from actually doing DAMAGE with anything but shrine next turn, I should be all right.

E activates Shrine of Burning Rage to destroy Stromkirk Noble, then passes. Caley makes a vampire end of turn.

Most any risk is now gone for me and I will almost certainly win quickly.

T10

Caley draws Darkslick Shores and plays it. He attacks with Reassembling Skeleton and a vampire token. (Enemy 17 9p, Caley 11). Caley passes.

E draws and concedes.

Nothing he can draw that will save him, and I have a counterspell waiting.

Sideboarding

Caley inserts 4x Flashfreeze, 3x Go for the Throat, 3x Negate

Caley removes 4x Evil Twin, 2x Army of the Damned, 2x Corrupted Conscience, 2x Black Sun's Zenith

In retrospect, I'm not sure about removing Black Sun's Zenith. Kill is just so good against RDW.

Game 2

Enemy plays first and keeps their opener.

Caley keeps an opening hand of Drowned Catacomb, Island, Go for the Throat, Reassembling Skeleton, 2x Bloodline Keeper  Flip, and Think Twice.

Fairly good defensive opening hand.

T1

E plays a Mountain and casts Goblin Fireslinger, then passes.

C draws Volition Reins, plays Island, and passes.

T2

E plays a Mountain. He activates Goblin Fireslinger. (Enemy 20, Caley 19). He casts Stormblood Berserker and passes.

C draws Island and plays Drowned Catacomb, then passes.

T3

E plays a Mountain and casts Stromkirk Noble. He attacks with Stormblood Berserker, which runs into Go for the Throat.

C draws Island and plays it. C casts Reassembling Skeleton and passes. E activates the Fireslinger. (Enemy 20, Caley 18)

T4

E plays a Mountain and casts Arc Trail targeting the Skeleton for 1 and Caley for 2. (Enemy 20, Caley 16). He attacks with Stromkirk Noble and hits. (Enemy 20, Caley 15). Then he casts Grim Lavamancer and passes.

Things are getting pretty sticky. This is why I should not have scrapped Black Sun's Zenith.

C draws Skinrender and plays Island.

Good draw otherwise, but no double black!

C casts Think Twice drawing Swamp, and plays it. C passes. End of turn, E activates Fireslinger. (Enemy 20, Caley 14)

T5

E plays a Mountain, then attacks with Stromkirk Noble. During combat, E casts Volt Charge targeting C and proliferating Stromkirk Noble, which then hits. (Enemy 20, Caley 8). E passes. End step, C reanimates the skeleton.

C draws Flashfreeze. He plays Swamp. He casts Skinrender blowing up Grim Lavamancer, which in response activates exiling Volt Charge and Arc Trail, throwing 2 at Reassembling Skeleton, which dies. C passes and gets hit with Fireslinger. (Enemy 20, Caley 7)

Grim Lavamancer is the most dangerous long-term threat. Hopefully I can draw a land and Volition Reins the big Noble away from him next turn.

T6

E attacks with Stromkirk Noble. C chop-blocks with Skinrender. E casts Stromkirk Noble and passes.

The good news is that he is topdecking and over half of my possible draws are now decent answers.

C draws Swamp. He plays it and casts Volition Reins targeting the big Stromkirk Noble, then passes. End step, Fireslinger. (Enemy 20, Caley 6).

T7

E casts Goblin Fireslinger and passes.

C draws Doom Blade, kills the new Fireslinger, and passes. End step, old Fireslinger. (Enemy 20, Caley 5).

Oh you Fireslinger. Wicked Fireslinger.

t8

E casts Shrine of Burning Rage. Caley responds with a flashedback Think Twice drawing Sorin Markov. E passes.

C draws Dissipate. He casts Sorin Markov and uses the +2 to destroy Goblin Fireslinger, which pings one last time in response. (Enemy 20, Caley 6). C passes.

T9

E casts Shrine of Burning Rage and passes.

This would ordinarily be a huge problem, but Sorin Markov's ultimate will easily defuse this threat.

C draws Negate. He activates Sorin Markov's +2 to the face. (Enemy 18, Caley 8). C passes.

T10

Enemy draws and concedes.

Thoughts

1 - Another day, another RDW build. I did play a few other matches in between, but none of them were completed due to people quitting early.

2 - The main RDW build is really just not that impressive to me. Perhaps things would be different here if he had an early Shrine in either game, but other than that one card nothing ever really scares me, other than perhaps Chandra's Phoenix on occasion.

KrazyCaley says... #6

Shrine is a problem. You have to have Negate or some such for it, or be able to answer it some other way.
