Hello Tappedouters. We do apologize for the hiatus, but well life tends to get in the way for us from time to time and honestly we had more cards to grade this time than ever before. We had a lot of great submissions and we often have to get nitpicky to narrow things down, so below you will find the ten that made it through. So here we are again, time to vote on our last planeswalker of the set (not of the block). Please read through all of the cards and suggestions for changes and all of the guidelines for voting. Thank you for all of the great participation people, keep it up.

Sorok Planeswalker Finalists

##Wisedwarfmanbrodude
####Design Team Concerns
The only concern that the design team had is that the ultimate ability seemed to be underpowered. ultimate abilities of planeswalkers are generally game changers and in many cases game winners. The final ability as written is not.
####Design Team Suggestions
change the ultimate to having the equipment entering the battlefield attached to a creature that you control.
##Thriniss, Psychic Manipulator
####Design Team Concerns
The design team feels that this card needs three abilities not four, as there are few planeswalkers with four abilities and they are explained very clearly in the story as to why. The design team also felt that the final ability was a bit too overpowered and does not have synergy with the first ability as one is a deterrent for the tapping of mana and the other wants opponents to tap for mana.
####Design Team Suggestions
The first suggestion was to remove the third ability "-2 destroy target land", most members of the design team agreed with the removal of this ability. The second suggestion was to change the final ability to 1 damage rather than two, making it a one sided Manabarbs.
##Norg, the Mischief Maker
####Design Team Concerns
There was some concern about the first ability being underpowered, the second ability may need rewording and the sacrificing part feels black, and the final ability may be a bit underpowered or overpowered depending on the final wording.
####Design Team Suggestions
It was suggested that the first ability needs the "it does not untap during the next untap step" phase to make it stronger. For the second ability, it may need to say that you may untap target creature in addition to the rest and it may need to drop the sacrifice portion. For the final ability, it needs to say "non-land permanent" so that it does not count as a free land theft every turn. Which would be great, but really overpowered.
##Magnus, Hammer of Sorok
####Design Team Concerns
No major concerns with this card.
####Design Team Suggestions
no suggestions made by design team. Liked as is.
##Jarek, Dur Warpriest
####Design Team Concerns
Since the -1 ability can only stop instants on your turn after the main step, it may be underpowered. Some individuals were worried about the power level of the final ability depending upon the match-up, it may be too strong.
####Design Team Suggestions
Suggestions for the -1 ability are to make the wording more like Silence so that it stalls opponents or to keep the current wording and make it a "+" ability. No specific suggestions were made for the final ability and may need to be fleshed out during playtesting.
##Goak Throatrender
####Design Team Concerns
The major concern here was that the final ability is similar to Koth of the Hammerfoil but even stronger. So this may be overpowered.
####Design Team Suggestions
A suggestion by one of the members of the design team was to make the final ability related to tapping "goblin permanents" only for the damage.
##Fruruk-Mkor, High Dwarf
####Design Team Concerns
Some concern about the confusion that can be caused by the emblem counters from the "-1" ability. Having 5 emblems or so could get crazy, especially since the same card offers two different kinds of emblems.
####Design Team Suggestions
It was suggested that the "-1" ability should just decrease the equip cost till end o turn, possibly even decreasing the equip cost by more. It was also suggested that the first ability have the "if you do" clause added to the beginning of the second sentence.
##Ajani Enlightened
####Design Team Concerns
Currently there is no justification for Ajani being here, so the name may need to change. There was also concern that the last ability was a bit too wordy.
####Design Team Suggestions
The last ability had a suggested change of being cut down some. Also that "x is the number of lands you control" which is more avatary, but may be off color.
##Nekla, Noggle Tactician
####Design Team Concerns
There is some concern that the final ability here may cause issues with rulings. This may have to be figured out in playtesting. The "-2" ability was also an area of concern, only because it has been done before on a Planeswalker. The power level of the first ability is also a serious concern. A free Unsummon every turn is pretty big. This is that the team liked it because of the serious self-synergy that this card has.
####Design Team Suggestions
No suggestion was made to change the first or second ability. The last ability should mast likely be changed to "non-land permanents" to make each deck still playable.
##Hobs, Goblin Aristocrat
####Design Team Concerns
Some concern was showed for the wording in the first ability. One member of the design team had apprehensions about the card altogether, yet was outvoted. Most members had no major concerns with the card.
####Design Team Suggestions
Suggested wording of the first ability would be changed to "Sacrifice a creature. If you do, deal 2 damage to target creature or player". No other suggestions were made, that would not alter major facets and change the card as a whole.

Inspiration and creative parameters or Sorok

Sorok is a land of vast mountains, lush valleys, rushing rivers and large lakes.

Creatures of Sorok

Dwarves

Dwarves are the major power in Sorok. Their wizards and artisans use the gems and materials gathered by the miners to make powerful equipment. Dwarves are known to be stubborn, loyal, a bit ponderous, and resolute. Dwarves live in the mountains they are born from, having vast underground cities. Dwarven nomads search the tunnels for rareties and treasures, while Dwarven scouts keep an eye the other races.

Goblins

Not your average goblins by any means, the Goblins of Sorok are actually somewhat intelligent and restrained, if a bit out there. They have wizards and artisans that use pilfered materials to make equipment that is well, a bit risky. Their settlements are normally in the valleys, with tall (if shaky) homes. Goblin advisers are selected from the most intelligent of the tribes and mostly try and rein in the more outlandish ideas of the others.

Merfolk

The Merfolk of Sorok inhabit the deep clear lakes of Sorok using the rivers as fast transportation (at least downhill). While not as numerous as the Dwarves or Goblins, the Merfolk are well versed in the control magics and hold their own in the rare conflicts.

Noggles

Noggles are the red headed stepchild of Sorok. Living near the Goblins, they tend to be the pranksters, rabble-rousers, and thieves of the societies.

Birds

Birds are abundant in Sorok, both large and small. Everything from eggs to rocs in the high reaches.

Drakes

Drakes make their homes in the mountains and caves. Some drakes have been known to be raised from the egg by adventurous goblin riders.

Griffins

Griffins are one the major predators in Sorok, and have mostly driven the drakes off the high reaches. While not sentient, the Griffins are highly intelligent and serious in manner.

Themes/Keywords/Mechanics.

The major themes and keywords of Sorok are : Bounce, Colored Non-Creature Artifacts and Equipment, Counter-spelling, Double Strike, Flying, Haste, Legends, Resolve, and Vigilance.

Clamp has been renamed Resolve (Spells, counters, or abilities cannot change this creature’s power and toughness from their printed values)

Voting

Here's what we're looking for:

  1. Each person should cast one vote for you favorite Planeswalker.
  2. Each person should critique the card for which they have voted. Agree or disagree with the Head Team's suggestions and include any other ideas you have to improve the card. Any critiques made on cards for which you did not vote will NOT be put into consideration from the Head Team. You may also make comments about other cards aside from the card that you voted for. The Head team will take into considerations all comments posted about all cards.

The deadline for voting is Fri, January 7th at 11:59 p.m.

This article is a follow-up to Sorok Planeswalker Challenge The next article in this series is Sorok Planeswalker and Red Rare Challenge

My vote.. and this was tough cuz i really liked 2 of them... but i went with

Goak Throatrender

As to the final ability i don't think you should limit it to goblins however all permants i think is too broad.... so my solution make the final ability related to tapping "red permanents" only for the damage. So any red cards.. but not lands, and the response from the opponent can still be Wrath of God wiping away the red permanents.

Yay!

@The design team regarding Fruruk-Mkor -- Sure, those changes sound great. I created that card on about 2 hours of sleep.

I'm not sure, but the first ability seems hard to understand (what if you don't control an artifact?). Your suggestion fixes that.

Second ability, maybe "Equip costs of permanents you control cost 2 less to activate until end of turn".

Third ability, is it okay?

i really like Hobs, Goblin Aristocrat

i like the last 2 abilities..

but the first one could possibly change to

+1 - Deal 2 damage to target creature or player and 1 damage to yourself. (We know Goblins are somewhat rash and can sometimes have their experiments backfire!)

but i do like this planeswalker... simple, yet effective

I think Magnus of Sorok with wisedwarfmanbrodude's ultimate instead would be very cool if we go the route of Dwarf.

But, my vote goes to Ajani obviously. The PW is the one card that should encapsulate the shard as a whole. I know an Ajani iteration is unorthodox, but it screamed Sorok to me.

I like Jarek the best. I would like to suggest a changes. The second ability should cost 0. The third ability should have a half life. Something like you get four emblems and sacrifice one every upkeep.

Vote: Norg, the Mischief Maker

I agree with the design team's idea of changing the +1 to "Tap target permanent. That permanent doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step."

The second ability could be changed to -2: "Gain control of target permanent until end of turn. Untap that permanent. If it is a creature, it gains haste until end of turn." In its current state, it is a little over powered.

The third ability should definitely be changed to non-land permanents. Ramp is not in the arsenal of red or blue. I like the overall flavor of the ability though.

This walker did what I was trying to do with my design. Good job, IronHead!

I love Thinriss, Jarek, and Magnus but I think I'll vote for...

Magnus, Hammer of Sorok. Love the name, flavor, abilities, and everything else.

I vote for Thriniss, Psychic Manipulator

I love messing with lands but I honestly think dropping one of the blue mana in the CMC and making him come in as a 3 with the ultimate being 5 would make him more playable. I do agree that the 1 damage would be a bit more fair but that even if the first ability deters them from being able to tap their lands for the color they need, it locks them and they will at least have to eventually use the land as colorless once they have the color they need. You will likely be color fixing yourself if you need it anyway.

I was a bit disappointed not to see mine as an option but oh well... Good luck everyone.

Okay. Here's my vote: The noggle! Its ridiculously fun, but I feel like the +1 is way overpowered, and that it NEEDS to change. Maybe to +2:Tap or untap target creature. It does not untap during its next untap step

Also, can you guys save the goblin planeswalker for the for the WBR 'shard'? I really like it, but it just doesn't feel like Sorok to me...

January 3, 2011 5:56 p.m.

Nekla, Noggle Tactician

Make the last ability non-lands permanents and make it cost -6.

January 3, 2011 6:47 p.m.

dude1818 says... #11

I vote for Wisedwarfmanbrodude. But please, please, please tell me that's a placeholder name! How about "[something dwarven] the Wise," such as Dorvus the Wise? I agree with the change to the final ability. Maybe adjust the price to -6? Then one of the others to 0, potentially.

January 3, 2011 7:26 p.m.

IronHead says... #12

I vote for Norg, The Mischief Maker

+1 one can be fixed in one of two ways.

Either add "a that permanent doesn't untap during its controllers next untap step" like somebody suggested or change it to "tap or untap target permanent" which would give it more combo potential.

January 3, 2011 7:28 p.m.

IronHead says... #13

also I agree the -x needs to say nonland permanent. Probably should have thought of that when making the card.

January 3, 2011 7:29 p.m.

squire1 says... #14

@ dude1818 all names of cards are subject to possible change. Before I was on the design team I won the first planeswalker challenge with a card named "babaganoosh". It is no longer the name of the card.

I have to say guys, wow we have some serious differing opinions, there is a vote for each of the ten cards.

January 3, 2011 7:53 p.m.

xeratheenigma says... #15

im voting for Nekla, Noggle Tactician.

to adress the power level of her +1 ability maybe wording it like Call to Heel would balance it better that way you cant just return a opposing creature without a care

as for the -2 ability maybe change the wording from gain control of target creature to gain control of target permanent this way it is not the same ability as another planeswalker's ability but still similar to the original ability.

and i agree that the ultimate should only affect nonland permanents. also making her ultimate -6 instead of -8 seems like a good idea as well

January 3, 2011 8:32 p.m.

xeratheenigma says... #16

you could even change nekla's first ability to: +1(2): tap or untap target creature, it doesnt untap during its controllers next untap step. that works for me to

January 3, 2011 8:56 p.m.

SLD says... #17

My vote goes to that name monster "Wisedwarfmanbrodude" who needs a name change really bad. But I like playing with equipments so that PW might be fun to play with. :)

January 4, 2011 8:30 a.m.

Wiseman.....ultimate is broken depending on the creatures/equipment in the set. Thrinniss is great, change ultimate to 1 damage. Neckla is good. The rest have wrong loyalty amounts, opposite +/- cost, and narrow play scopes. My vote is for NECKLA as only relevant and exciting walker here. Fix Hobs to say +1 put a goblin in play, -1 sac a creature deal 2, and -x put x tokens. That way it has a way to feed itself and prolly make the cost RRR or 1RRR

January 4, 2011 11:59 a.m.

leon_raymond says... #19

I really like all these planeswalkers. good job to everybody. but i really think that the planeswalker for sorok should be an equipment based card. Hence, i vote for wisedwarfmanbrodude. But he REALLY needs a name change.

i think he should start on 3 loyalty, otherwise you can activate his ultimate on turn 6. That could be 4 Argentum Armor s on turn 6 (if you're not playing limited). Not to mention all the other equipments that could be in this set.

I really hope we can use a noggle planeswalker in the second set :)

January 4, 2011 6:53 p.m.

Jarrod_0067 says... #20

Is the design team sticking to the standard planeswalker coloring? All planeswalkers are either mono-colored or dual-coulored multi. The only exception is Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker . Until wizards create a 3 color planeswalker for 3 or 4 cmc, I wouldn't be so quick to choose one of them

January 4, 2011 7:01 p.m.

squire1 says... #21

the first planeswalker designed for the set was 3 colors and 4cmc. However that is not strictly a cycle.

As for the keeping planeswalkers for other sets, we will only have 4 in the whole block. 2 in this set, one in the next, and one in the last. Each is planned for a different shard with one shard left out.

January 4, 2011 7:26 p.m.

xeratheenigma says... #22

@socialistelite: which noggle are you voting for there are two nekla, noggle tactician and norg, the mischief maker.

i think you are voting for nekla since you said the +1 ability is overpowered. where as the design team said norg's first ability may be underpowered.

just thought you should make it a bit more clear as for who your voting for just to prevent some confusion

January 4, 2011 7:42 p.m.

Xander574 says... #23

@squire. Unless this has been drastically changed there are suppose to be five one in each shard. 3 1 and 1

Or possibly 2 1 2

January 5, 2011 2:41 a.m.

Nekla, Noggle Tactician

Sorry. I was ignorant to the double noggle problem. :P

January 5, 2011 6:58 p.m.

subzero_06 says... #25

Jarek, Dur Warpriest is my vote...

I agree that if his -1 ability is going to stay the way it is and only be during ur turn then i think that he might be too under powered... though im ok with his final being as powerful as it is... especially if the -1 is left alone.

January 7, 2011 10:02 a.m.

Ajani for sure

It is interesting to come back and see what twists you have put on my ideas. Is there anywhere I can find a summary of the names and focuses of each plane, to see how much they have changed from my vision.

If you are still planning on using flow as an Irindu(?) ability perhaps reword it to be more like sinbad's loot ability.
