After the voting from last time was compiled, here are our winners to the Monoblack Morglen Challange. After taking into consideration your comments and thoughts on the cards, the design team did make a few slight changes to the original submitted cards.

Undead Ravager by IronHead
Basically left him as is. The design team want the P/T to be a bit more unique. So we thought about 2/1, but then decided that this guy should not die to Hornet Sting. Then 0/3 was suggested, but it did not feel aggressive enough, so we landed at 1/2.

Revival of the Fittest by dude1818
Casting cost was the only issue with this card. Since it is a highly multicolored set, we want things easy to splash. So BBB was a bit too much. We felt that 2B would be fine and maybe will need to be changed to 3B in playtesting if the prior seems overpowered. In the final card we also added the flavor text provided by the author back in.
Before After
Lingering Pursuit by BrownDog5117
Stayed exactly the same.

Morglen Green/White Challenge

The next challenge will be to create three of the rares for the Morglen shard. Obviously, there are some guidelines. 1) We are looking for three rares: Creatures, Enchantments, Instants, Sorceries are all fine. At least one of the final cards will be a creature. One will be Green, one will be White, one will be multicolored Green/White. 2) They must all be either only Green, only White or White and Green. No other colors in the casting cost. Black may be used in the cards for activation costs if the flavor dictates it. No artifacts. 3) Each person can only submit three entries. If you submit more than three, we will only take the last three submissions and ignore the earlier ones. 4) The cards will be judged based on four categories: Effectiveness, Set Cohesion, Balance, and Creativity. Here are a couple of helpful things: 1) Remember that the only keywords that can appear on Sorok cards are the "evergreen" keywords (deathtouch, defender, double strike, enchant, equip, first strike, flash, flying, haste, indestructible, intimidate, landwalk, lifelink, protection, reach, regenerate, shroud, trample, and vigilance). In addition to these evergreen keywords, the keyword that is exclusive to Morglen, Memento (When this creature dies, if it wasn't a token, put a token that is a copy of this creature onto the battlefield.), may be used. 2) We love to see people create their own physical pictures of the cards that they created. Often, they are great looking and really cool, and I encourage you to share them with us. But for our convenience, if you can also type the information directly into the comment, it makes our lives easier. You won't be marked down for not doing this, but copying and pasting text saves a lot of time compared to typing it all up from scratch. 3) Just a reminder, the winning cards may be changed. Be it mana cost or other small things to make the set balanced, your original creation may not be EXACTLY what it was originally, but I promise that we will try our hardest to keep the card as close to its origins as possible. HAVE FUN CREATING! ###The deadline for the Challenge is Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. Thanks to everyone!
###Information about Morglen. Morglen is filled with wide reaching Savannah and glades, but as one ventures deeper and deeper into the forests and farther from the heart of morglen, the ground becomes slightly bogged and more desolate. ###Storyline/history
In this shard there are two Major tribes, the Gladeparters and the Tharin'l, both of elves. The Gladeparters are centered around true democracy and hold their tribal council with the Tharin'l though they get along less and less as the year go on. Both tribes believe in order in nature and are willing to die for it. Nature is nearly worshiped by these elves in a religious fashion. The Gladeparters led by Doreer, the elder, follow the normal worship of nature and realize the plans of the youth around them but decide as a group to not devise a plan against them. All that they concentrate on is that nature and right will prevail and that they will gladly die protecting both. Both societies have the technology level of an iron age society. They have Iron weapons and armor, yet their buildings are more hut like in nature, some on the ground and some in the trees. Neither architecture nor creating artifacts is a focus of this nation.
###Themes The major themes and keywords of Morglen are Recursion/resurrection, Regeneration, life loss, and ramp
###Creature Types The creature types of Morglen are : Elf, Beast, Plant, Treefolk, Troll, Zombie, Centaur, Wolves Subtypes include: Rogue, Shaman, Druid, Necromancer. #Themes/Mechanics ### Morglen Mechanic After Voting, the new mechanic is Memento (When this creature dies, if it wasn't a token, put a token that is a copy of this creature onto the battlefield.) ### Others The mechanics of course include the evergreen keywords (deathtouch, defender, double strike, enchant, equip, first strike, flash, flying, haste, indestructible, intimidate, landwalk, lifelink, protection, reach, regenerate, shroud, trample, and vigilance) and Memento.
####The general themes according to the voting are Regeneration, Hexproof, Reach, landwalk, Recursion/resurrection, and Ramp.
This article is a follow-up to Morglen Black Card Voting The next article in this series is Morglen Green/White Voting

Sorry if the last one's wording is a bit hard to understand, I've been working on it and I believe that the wording means that if the creature is not yours, it will die, if it is yours, you get two tokens of a legendary creature that stay.

Mpz5 says... #20

Increase it's cost by 1 maybe?

It is a rare for a reason and you would have to run life gain stuff to use it which means you couldn't really use it for much before 4th turn or so. You have to consider that you also have to gain life somehow which costs mana as well and has to be played that turn with it. It's really not a whole lot better than rampant growth until later in the game and it's harder to play... or is that just me?

zandl says... #22

Elixir of Immortality with Vitality's Growth would give you a total of nine lands at the end of your fourth turn, for example.

That's not to say that this imaginary set would have Elixir of Immortality , but cards are often printed with similar (if not better) abilities.

Hell, even Kabira Crossroads is 2 fetched lands on the third turn (or second turn with a Birds of Paradise ). It's Harrow for 2 mana without the land-sac.

card:Nature's Claim, Oust , Rest for the Weary (my personal favorite, lol), Viridian Harvest , card:Whitesun's Passage, so on and so forth.

Again, this isn't to bash you or your card, or anything like that. I'm just pointing out a Mental Misstep in the design.

July 22, 2011 3:29 a.m.

Mpz5 says... #23

Would it be better costed at 3 cmc or 4? It just seems so underwhelming at that point.

What if the life is divided by 2 rounded down before you search?

July 22, 2011 3:44 a.m.

zandl says... #24

Perhaps just adding mana to your mana pool would be better than fetching lands and putting them right into play.

Something like, "Add 1 (colorless) to your mana pool equal to the amount of life you gained this turn."

I feel like adding even just all of one color would open up huge wormhole-like combos into things like turn-3 Titans and card:Sorin's Vengeance.

July 22, 2011 3:49 a.m.

Coin.lore says... #25

Slight adjustment to the wording in shrine makers, because how it's phrased right now both tokens would die as they entered the battlefield:

"it gains "If a spell with same name as this token is successfully cast onto the battlefield, sacrifice it and this token.""

Sun's Breach

Target opponent loses 1 life for each (B) in your mana pool.

That sounds decent. I'm thinking maybe just changing the wording like this...

Until end of turn, whenever a player spends (W) or (G) on spells or abilities, you gain 1 life for each (W) or (G) spent.

Until end of turn, whenever a player spends (B) on spells or abilities, target opponent loses 1 life.

Vitality Gamble

You may only cast Vitality Gamble during an Upkeep. Until end of turn, if an opponent would pay life this turn, you may gain twice that much life. For each creature your opponent has enter the battlefield from the graveyard this turn, you may search your library for a basic land card and put it into play tapped.

Skip your next turn.

This has potential to be broken, awesome, and useless all at once. I love it.
