Morglen Planeswalker Voting

#Planeswalker
## Beaudry the Eldest Tutor
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
We liked the utility of this card.
## Virmier the Corrupted Youth
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
-0 is too much. Loved the internal synergy, but that ability plus two zuran orb shots from the -3 is a bit too good. We would have to make some form of change.
## Thane Spear-Chief of the Glades
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Suggested that the creatures controller get the token, not just you.
## Vornal Loam Sage
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Second ability should be sacrifice a permanent, or all players sacrifice a creature. Maybe raise CMC or lower initial loyalty.
##Zyanthl Tharinl Druidess
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
First ability might need to say basic land, or maybe not.
##Eilbrar the Suresight
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
We would take off the prevent all damage part and give it regen. That seems more "elfy". The first ability may need to change for flavor and internal synergy.
##Maiyn Bringer of Necrosis
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Needs casting cost increase to 2GB
##Lydal The Elven Maiden
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Go Tribal!
##Doria the Sanctuarist
###Concerns and suggestions by the design team
Token maybe a little more standard, 0/1 Plant Token maybe?
###Information about Morglen. Morglen is filled with wide reaching Savannah and glades, but as one ventures deeper and deeper into the forests and farther from the heart of morglen, the ground becomes slightly bogged and more desolate. ###Storyline/history
In this shard there are two Major tribes, the Gladeparters and the Tharin'l, both of elves. The Gladeparters are centered around true democracy and hold their tribal council with the Tharin'l though they get along less and less as the year go on. Both tribes believe in order in nature and are willing to die for it. Nature is nearly worshiped by these elves in a religious fashion. The Gladeparters led by Doreer, the elder, follow the normal worship of nature and realize the plans of the youth around them but decide as a group to not devise a plan against them. All that they concentrate on is that nature and right will prevail and that they will gladly die protecting both. Both societies have the technology level of an iron age society. They have Iron weapons and armor, yet their buildings are more hut like in nature, some on the ground and some in the trees. Neither architecture nor creating artifacts is a focus of this nation.
###Themes The major themes and keywords of Morglen are Recursion/resurrection, Regeneration, life loss
###Creature Types The creature types of Morglen are : Elf, Beast, Plant, Treefolk, Troll, Zombie, Centaur, Wolves Subtypes include: Rogue, Shaman, Druid, Necromancer. #Themes/Mechanics ### New Mechanic After Voting, the new mechanic is Memento (When this creature dies, if it wasn't a token, put a token that is a copy of this creature onto the battlefield.) ### Others The mechanics of course include the evergreen keywords (deathtouch, defender, double strike, enchant, equip, first strike, flash, flying, haste, indestructible, intimidate, landwalk, lifelink, protection, reach, regenerate, shroud, trample, and vigilance) and Memento.
####The general themes according to the voting are Regeneration, Hexproof, Reach, landwalk, Recursion/resurrection.

Thane, Spear-Chief of the Glades.

My only concern with this card is that his ultimate should either be until end of turn or gives you an emblem that boosts your plants. If it makes an emblem, the P/T boost should probably be lowered to +2/+2 or +3/+3.

Zyanthl Tharinl Druidess

I really like the idea of a planeswalker that doesn't change its loyalty. All the abilities seems balanced.

Doria the Sanctuarist seems misprinted on her ultimate.

On the final planeswalker, the -1 and -7 abilities are identical. Fairly certain the -7 ability was meant to be permanent. On Elibrar, the Surebright, the deathtouch ability doesn't make sense since the card is green and white, not green and black. Double strike or lifelink makes more sense. Protection from a chosen color/artifacts makes sense as well but might be too OP.

After dwelling on the chosen themes, Memento would be a good replacement for Deathtouch. However, that might be too good.

The only reason that I didn't make Lydal a Tribal Planeswalker is because i didn't really know that was allowed to be honest :P.

That being said the planeswalker I vote for is Beaudry the Eldest Tutor. Has amazing utility and would be incredibly fun to run. While I think that Lydal fits better flavor wise (shameless self-bump), and I like Maiyn Bringer of Necrosis a little more, I think that Beaudry combines the best of both worlds into a planeswalker I would want to play.

Zyanth'l has three abilities that cost 0? I don't think so.

Not a fan of any of these. My vote goes to Maiyn. The second ability should be reworded to say "You may cast creature cards from your graveyard until end of turn." I agree with the price increase.

landot says... #10

Doria's -7 should read "Destroy all creatures. Then each opponent loses life equal to the number of creatures in her or his graveyard."

Beaudry's ultimate seems way underpowered. most ultimates have immediate, nearly game-winning effects. If Beaudry looked for three cards, then put them into play, it would make more sense.

I really like Vornal, loam sage, and i think it gets my vote . . . as long as the middle ability is simply 'all players sacrifice a creature'.

yeah sorry landot. It will be fixed

Smuggy says... #12

@landlot: I agree with the 'all players sacrifice a creature' change (it might be 'each player sacrifices a creature', I don't know if there's a standard wording), I was just a little worried it could be abused too much with tokens, but I suppose once a turn isn't too abusive.

In retrospect thane's ultimate pt effect may be a little overpowered. +3/+3 may have been more appropriate. I vote for beaudry. it would seem unfair to vote for my own :)

Lovely ideas everyone!

Zyanth'l is cool.

Nobilior says... #16

Yea I'd say Zyanth'l should say basic land. I love the 0 thing though.

June 27, 2011 8:43 p.m.

Zyanthl Tharinl Druidess. I'd say she could probably stay as she is, but I would test her out before saying that for sure. And if the land ability is changed to basic, then maybe we should consider changing the third ability to something a little more powerful? Like creatures get +2/+1?

Come on guys, Beaudry, the Eldest Tutor takes the cake on this one Its original, a useful tool (as plainswalkers should be) and it fills a spot in our BG flavor we havent yet.

I really don't want ANOTHER tribal elf plainswalker?

I like the mana pumping tutor and I love the converted casing cost tutor but I got to agree that the ultimate is a little low on the power scale.

however at 2BG for a multi-tutoring bastard that finishes with an ability thats never been done before it may need a little playtest tweaking.

PS: Kind of reminds me of Doomsday

Prophylaxis says... #19

I'll vote for Vornal, Loam Sage. I appreciate at how the card works together as a self-synergy. I would raise the mana cost to 3BG and make the +1 like this:

+1: Sacrifice a land. Search you library for a Plains or Forest card and put it onto the battlefield. Then shuffle your library.

I would also make the second ability like this:

+1: Sacrifice a creature. Destroy target creature.

It's really simple and elegant and I really like it - Stronghold Assassin style.

Also, may I do some editing and cleanup on your article? I always cringe when I read it - it always looks like it's copied and pasted, and one time one part of a past article actually carried over into another.

Doria, BUT under the given condition that instead of a 0/3 wall, a 0/3 plant. Also, maybe the final ability should play of plants and/or hexproof instead of a bomb.
