After consideration, the recursion cost was reduced from 1WRRB to WRB.

Chavest's Rare Judge Challenge

The Judges of Chavest are three Rare Legendary Creatures. For Chavest's second card creation challenge, you will be creating these Judges. I know that this is a bit different from our normal shard challenge order, but These are the guidelines you must follow:

1) You are submitting up to 3 entries, for a R/W Judge, a R/B Judge, and a W/B Judge

2) The cards must be Legendary Creatures, subtype Judge, primary type one of the humanoids of Chavest (demons, angels, humans, viashino - yes, we know that imps are basically humanoid, but noone would listen to an imp). For Example : Legendary Creature - Human Judge, Legendary Creature - Demon Judge, Legendary Creature - Angel Judge, or Legendary Creature - Viashino Judge.

3) If the card has any mana symbols on it, they can only be Chavest's colors (black, red, white).

4) Other than Cleave, the only keywords that may appear on the card must be evergreen (deathtouch, defender, double strike, enchant, equip, first strike, flash, flying, haste, indestructible, intimidate, landwalk, lifelink, protection, reach, regenerate, shroud, trample, and vigilance). This means things like multikicker, kicker, cycle, etc are NOT allowed.

5) Each person may submit a maximum of three entries total, one for each color pair (R/W, R/B, W/B).

6) We will be judging based on the following criteria: a) Effectiveness (Does the card actually work mechanics-wise?) b) Set Cohesion (Does the card fit the flavor for the shard and challenge?) c) Balance (Is the card too overpowered or underpowered both in general and for its rarity?) d) Creativity (Does the card seem fun or is it a clever design?)

###Information about Chavest, to help you along. Chavest is scrublands that lead to a treacherous volcanic range. The general tone for the shard is nihilistic and dark. Chavest is a land united under an iron rule, after a series of bitter conflicts and adjustments. ####Main Creature Types 1) demons - bound to Chavest by an unknown being Demons are generally humanoid but with massively muscular bodies, twisted, horned faces, clawed limbs, and in many cases leathery wings, demons embody the suffering and evil desires of ordinary races.
2) angels - also bound to Chavest by an unknown being, Angels have an extremely strong sense of justice and often devote their lives - and their deaths - to its cause, whatever it may be.
3) humans - Tough minded, hearty and adaptable.
4) imps - imps are barely-sentient, feral pests.
5) viashino - The Viashino are intelligent humanoids with lean, muscular builds. These Lizard-Folk are descended from dragons. Quick, agile, and vicious when required.
6) pheonix - rare and special, the pheonix embodies the driving force of the current, all encompassing Chavest faith, Redemption through destruction. ####Note : We are allowing creatures to be Angels and Demons at the same time. Subtypes include: knight, cleric, judge, barbarian/berserker, rogue. ####Themes/Mechanics Cleave X (whenever this creature deals combat damage to a blocking creature it deals X damage to that creatures controller.)
The mechanics of course include the evergreen keywords (deathtouch, defender, double strike, enchant, equip, first strike, flash, flying, haste, indestructible, intimidate, landwalk, lifelink, protection, reach, regenerate, shroud, trample, and vigilance). ####To Recap : Main Types : demons, angels, humans, imps, viashino, phoenix. Subtypes : knight, cleric, judge, barbarian/berserker, rogue. General themes are land destruction, sweepers, burn, creature removal, Life Gain/Drain, anti-land, and sacrifice.

My submission is based on the three realms of the afterlife in the Roman Catholic doctrine.

Submission 1

Name: Heaven, Soul of Chavest

Mana Cost: 3WB

Type: Legendary Creature

Subtype: Angel Judge

Expansion Symbol: Rare

Rules Text:

Flying

Whenever a creature goes to the graveyard from the battlefield, put a 1/1 white and black Spirit creature token with flying onto the battlefield.

Sacrifice a Spirit: Target opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1 life.

Flavor Text: "People cannot live without their souls. Souls cannot live without their afterlife. I am that afterlife."

Power/Toughness: 5/5

Submission 2

Name: Hell, Executioner of Chavest

Mana Cost: 3BR

Type: Legendary Creature

Subtype: Demon Judge

Expansion Symbol: Rare

Rules Text:

Intimidate

BR: Sacrifice a creature: Target opponent sacrifices a creature.

Whenever a creature goes to the graveyard from the battlefield, target opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1 life.

Flavor Text: "No one has ever known death unless I execute them."

Power/Toughness: 5/5

Submission 3

Name: Purgatory, Gatekeeper of Chavest

Mana Cost: 3WR

Type: Legendary Creature

Subtype: Human Judge

Expansion Symbol: Rare

Rules Text:

Cleave 3

When Purgatory enters the battlefield, exile target creature and put 3 purification counters on it.

At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a purification counter from all creatures exiled with Purgatory.

When a creature exiled with Purgatory has no purification counters on it, return it onto the battlefield under your control.

Flavor Text: "The gateway between heaven and hell is me."

Power/Toughness: 5/5

Notes

Heaven is designed to be an afterlife sort of creature, so I put the Spirit creature token there as a way to represent that. I put the sacrificial theme as a way to "ascend beyond", if you know what I mean.

Hell is designed to be like a sacrificial sort of creature - if you have the creatures, you can clear the board relatively quickly. It also makes your opponent pay when your opponent sacrifices a creature - similar to the blood when someone is executed.

Purgatory, in religious terms, is the process of purification or temporary punishment. I chose the "purification" theme instead of the "temporary punishment" theme because I thought it would make the card more exciting rather than to just Journey to Nowhere a creature until the third turn.

The card "purifies" a creature so that it can come under your control - in other words, the time it is exiled, it purifies the opponent's "taint".

Adramelech, Judge of Flame

CMC: 3BR

Legendary Creature - Demon Judge

Double Strike, Cleave 2

Whenever Adramelech, Judge of Flame deals damage to a player, that player sacrifices a permanent.

P/T: 2/4

Flavor text: His judgments, while harsh, burn weakness away.

Photobucket

Double Strike + Cleave = epic, especially when his effect is tied into the mix. Even if they block, unless he kills the creature on the first hit, the player takes 4 damage. (2 twice) and thus has to sac off two permanents.

This will be one of those cards that you better have removal for or you will be in trouble.

Flavorwise I think he's pretty cool. His effect is extremely demon like and abusing the keyword Cleave like he does with both double strike and his effect (both evergreen abilities) to me seems like a plus in his favor.

Your ideas are what matter. but thank you for catching it.
