So now we are moving forward with filling in uncommon slots. If you remember from previous chalenges, we have stated that old cards submitted will be considered for slots in lesser rarity. So if you put a card out there a while ago, you might see it getting a second chance.

So this is how this is going to work. For each color set in the shard we will tell you how many available slots there are for cards. Then you will vote and submit changes for cards. Then with the remaining slots new design chalenges will be held.

We are going to start with the UGR shard, Irindu. Here is some information on Irindu as well as the accepted cards so far, to consider while voting.

Possible Blue Uncommons

There are 3 mono-blue slots available for Irindu uncommons in the set. Four of the cards submitted for previous challenges were selected as possible fillers for these spots.







Bagan's Trickery by suppressed08
Design team comments:
The design team felt that the rules text should be changed to "Flow 1UU . Target creature becomes a copy of target creature until end of turn. Another target creature an becomes a 0/2 until end of turn."
Reccuring Curse by acewilliams
Design team comments:
Only suggested changes were wordsmithing the rules text. This will be done with all cards regardless in the end to fit wotc convention.
Shared Foresight by acewilliams
Design team comments:
one suggestion was to change it to 2,U and "Each player looks at the top three cards his or her, puts them on the top of his or her library in any order, then reveals the top 3 cards of his or her library to all players." which changes the card significantly. Others felt it to be a common.
Viscous Plasma by Dr. McMeen
Design team comments:
No suggestions were given. One member specifically stated that they really wanted this card.


Possible Red Uncommons

There are 2 mono-red slots available for Irindu uncommons in the set. One of the cards submitted for previous challenges was selected as possible fillers for one of these spots.

Aunt Flow by eze01
Design team comments:
The design team felt that the name really needed a change and in edition that the rules text be an optional ability, using this text "When you pay a Flow cost you may pay RR, if you do Aunt Flow deals 3 damage to target creature or player."

Damage value could be changed to a lower amount for balanceing. That could be done now or during playtesting.


Possible Green Uncommons

There are 2 mono-green slots available for Irindu uncommons in the set. One of the cards submitted for previous challenges was selected as possible fillers for one of these spots.

Irindu Falls Huntmaster by SupremeAlliesCommander
Design team comments:
One member of the design team wanted this to have it gain "unblockable" rather than flash. Another member wanted the creature type to be "human wizard" and make some slight alterations to the text.

There is 1 blue/red slot available for Irindu uncommons in the set. One of the cards submitted for previous challenges was selected as possible fillers for this spot.

Design team had no suggestions for changes and liked this card as is for an uncommon.


Possible Red/Green Uncommons

There is 1 red/green slot available for Irindu uncommons in the set. Three of the cards submitted for previous challenges was selected as possible fillers for this spot.





Exploding Earth by exarkun809
Design team comments:
Some felt that making this 3 cmc for 2 damage and +2/+2 would make a better common, others felt that a 3CMC for 3 damage and +3/+3 would make a good uncommon.
Flowstone Wurm by bobmarchman
Design team comments:
Design team liked the idea of actually using the "flowstone mechanic" and making the rules text: "Trample
R: Flowstone Wurm gets +1/-1 until end of turn.
G: Flowstone Wurm gets -1/+1 until end of turn.
Fanged Mage by shaistyone
Design team comments:
We liked this card without its flow cost. It seemed unessecary here.

Voting

So here is how voting will go down:

  1. Each person casting a vote should cast a vote of "yes" or "no" for each card shown above.
  2. After your votes for each card you may include a justification or suggestion for changes to the card. Changes for cards that are more severe will be considered more than they would be with rares.

So what happens after voting? After voting we will add the cards that had more votes "for" than "against" to the set. The cards will have modifications made to them based on your suggestions and power level. The cards that have more votes "against" than "for" will be pitched to the side. If all of these cards are ousted, then we will start from scratch with challenges to design cards for all of the slots.

All votes must be submitted by Wednesday, November 2nd 2011.

suggestions:

Bagan's trickery: I like the suggestions by design team to make it better.

Viscous Plasma: Keep as is.

Aunt Flow: I would change the name. I want it to be an activated ability like "When you play a card for its flow cost, you may pay R. If you do CARDNAME deals 1 damage to target creature or player."

Chaos Element: I like it as is.

Flowstone wurm: Love this card if it is +1/-1 and -1/+1.

Blue

Bagan's Trickery = no. It's inelegant.

Recurring Curse = yes. I feel the flow cost is too color-intensive. Disperse is only 1U, so I think this should be UU normal and 1UU flow. Also, "Recurring" is spelled wrong.

Shared Foresight = yes. I agree with the design team for the new cost and rewording.

Viscous Plasma = yes. However, I think that as an uncommon the P/T changing ability should only be UEOT.

Red

Aunt Flow = yes. The name should be changed. I disagree with the design team; red doesn't like optional abilities, it likes doing things without forethought! The ability works as-is, though I'm unsure if it's balanced.

Green

Irindu Falls Huntmaster = yes with reservations. If the flash triggered ability works, I like it, but I don't if it does. Without it, I would say no. Creature type Human Warrior Wizard?

Red/Blue

Chaos Element = yes. I like the ability, though it should say to reveal the card. I don't see why the "second from the top" is included; it seems unnecessarily wordy. I think the name should be changed, maybe to Element of Chaos; as it is, it seems like you tried to spell "Elemental" and forget the ending.

Red/Green

Exploding Earth = no. I agree that it should be common 2 damage and +2/+2. It should specify "another target creature".

Flowstone Wurm = yes. I like making it +1/-1 or -1/+1, which also bring the cost to 3RG. However, flowstone is a material found only on Dominaria. A reference to it in the name of flavor text would be cool, but it shouldn't be actual flowstone. Maybe Flowing Stonewurm?

Fanged Mage = yes. That's a gross flow cost. Maybe the ability could cost "1, T" instead?

Bagans Trickery = No...just no.

Shared Foresight = Yes, change the cost to 2U but keep the wording as is.

Viscous Plasma = Yes as is.

Aunt Flow = Yes Change the name (though in an immature sort of way it does make me giggle) and make it so that it only increases the flow cost by r.

Irindu Falls Huntmaster = yes as is.

Chaos Elemental = Yes but make it so that the card is placed on top of the library. Placing it second makes it too easy for a player to cheat and "accidentally" see what the top card is. Also I would move the +1/+1 part away from the tapped ability. Make that static.

Exloding Earth = No. Make it common and change the 3's to 2's.

Flowstone Wurm = Yes with the proposed changes.

Fanged Mage = Yes.

Bagan's Trickery: No. Not without a major reworking. Recurring Curse: yes. Shared Foresight: Yes, but call it something like Mind Meld. Viscous Plasma: Yes.

Aunt Flow: Yes, but call it Cataract Mage or Stormsurge Mage, and maybe make the cost increase 2 or 1R. If it's RR that just straight up kills the flow chain concept.

Irindu Falls Huntmaster: Yes. "You may cast Irindu Falls Huntmaster as if it had flash if you cast a spell for its flow cost this turn."

Chaos Elemental: Yes, with above changes.

Exploding Earth: Yes, but I like the name "Raging Earth" more. Fanged Mage: Yes.
