Sorry about that delay. Law stuff. Really must hire an assistant one of these days.
Now then. Back to the draft.

Wall of Junk

Veiled Serpent. Cheap stompy guy, cheap scary wall, or something completely different.

Wall of Junk could make a decent early game blocker. Another copy of Catalog certainly wouldn't hurt our deck in terms of consistency. Yet red seems to be very open so maybe Shower of Sparks is the way to go. I'm conflicted.

Either Catalog or Veiled Serpent. Right now I'm leaning towards Veiled Serpent because we're kind of low on creatures.

Rubs his eyes... blinks a few times.... pinches himself just to make sure it is real.... welcome back KC. i figured we had lost you again for an extended period of time.
Ok so cards... i think Catalog should be the pick, card draw for the win!

We're not seeing much in terms of card synergies. We'll have to rely on card quality, which we won't have much of. So, being able to dig for the right cards will be important.

SupremeAlliesCommander makes the best argument. Catalog
(Shower of Sparks as a backup; red's REALLY open apparently.)
Also, welcome back :D

But if we don't have cards worth drawing, card draw is pointless. If we're wanting to get into blue anyway, we should get the blue card that has an impact on the board.

Considering the next two sets, I believe it's safe to say we will have cards worth drawing. :)

Veiled Serpent, as we don't really have many creatures, and we can cycle it if we don't want it.
April 16, 2012 8:19 p.m.
Shower of Sparks. If someone else really is taking our black, let's jump into red while we can. plus, it's easily the best card in the pack.

Wall of Junk seems like it could be something that is really hard to get around. That being said, I'll give a slight edge to Catalog.

I would like to change my vote to Catalog. I think blue is being slightly undervalued right now, and we want to be drawing into some good blue cards from later packs.
The serpent is a cheap 4/4, but with blue being under-loved, I don't think it's going to be attacking much.
April 16, 2012 11:27 p.m.
My main problem with the enchantment-creatures such as Veiled Serpent is the fact that they don't bring an immediate impact to our board position. If our opponent is beating us, drawing the Serpent isn't going to matter, because our opponent won't need to cast anymore spells, and any spell he does cast will probably seal the casket for us.
However, I don't think Catalog is the correct pick either, due to the fact that our cards don't really have an amazing quality to them. Thus I have to support the pick of Shower of Sparks. Red seems to be very open, and we can always splash a little black for our removal spells.

Glad you're not dead or something!
Anyway I'd go with the second Catalog. The black has dried up, white's pretty scarce, and we don't really want to try pushing into red or green. That leaves this and Veiled Serpent. And while a 4/4 is nice, we'd be better off with card advantage.

Actually without changing my vote.. It's still semi-early in pack 1. Red is clearly wide open. Are we perhaps ignoring a strong signal that could open up some amazing cards for us?

@beardedshuffler - Being a lawyer in trial is actually somewhat similar to being dead.

Are we saying that red is wide open because this pack has a bunch of red in it? Or are we saying that based on the last pack, which had only one red card? Or are we looking back to packs 3 and 4?
I'll accept the last one, but not the first two.
This is the third Veiled Serpent we've seen in 7 packs. I suspect one of them will make it back around. Do we need/want two? Going tribal might be fun.

We're thinking red's open because of the fun little burn spell in the pack.
April 17, 2012 12:43 p.m.
I don't think reds open. Packs 4-6 had almost nothing in terms of red.

Personally, Id go for Catalog -it being just a replacement card, its best used for discarding quantity for quality, which I always find useful in a draft. Other then that id say that Veiled Serpent might provide some what a bit of casting pressure to be insured. Having our opponent to worry bout what they cast is a decent play in my mind. As well as having the serpent come in as a enchantment so its not effecting any trigger's that involve creature's entering.

Seeing as we have chosen U/W/B so far with some control cards, I would definitely pick up a second Catalog.
