Hey there Tappedouters! As we have been doing for a couple of months now, we are celebrating two players of the month. Both players of the month is selected by you, the community, by voting on Facebook from a group of admin nominated users. If your missed out on this month's voting, make sure to friend us on Facebook for next month's.

People's Choice winner

So both winners have been chosen by you all on our facebook page. I figured that the voting thing was working so well, that I turned the whole thing over to the community. I mean who cares what those admin people think anyway. This time from the choices, you all chose Dritz and thehorse.

So what does he win Bob

Well thanks to yeaGO and our partners at Cool Stuff Games, Dritz and Thehorse will each be receiving a $50 gift certificate to www.coolstuffinc.com! Please enjoy, buy some cards, build a deck, you know...do that stuff that magic players do.

As an additional prize that I started in July 2011, the winner gets the honor of being represented in cards designed by me. So exciting!!! (sarcasm)

Dritz Thehorse
With Dritz's card, I actually starting designing before I knew anything about him which lead me to think he misspelled Drizzt's name from D and D. I was wrong and after I threw out a cool design for Drizzt, found that Dritz actually has a Boros thing and so I started over. So when I thought Boros, I immediately thought doublestrike and giving an ability to all creatures. The rest kinda evolved from there. I also thought he would be legendary, so I wanted to make him good in EDH. Hope I hit the mark here. TheHorse has been a member for a while. A long time ago, I decided if I designed a card for him. It would be a generic horse, but that became a bit lame. I started by thinking what a horse would be. A horse could trample a human, but a human could hurt it, so 3/2 with trample felt right. But this isn't A horse, it's THE horse. So I figured it was legendary. And a legendary horse would be a legendary mount. This led me to create the new mechanic, mount. It is clearly a mash up of totem armor and equip, but with a creature. Hope you like it.

Hope you enjoy the cards and the prizes!

Why wouldn't TheHorse give Horsemanship? :-(

I totally dig both cards, love the mount idea...Congratulations guys!

I thought about horsemanship, but just because you are riding a horse, does not mean you can do so skillfully. The first strike is like having privileged position above an enemy and the trample is inherent to the horse, but horsemanship is a trait that a rider must have.

Mount would be actually pretty awesome skill tbh! It's like.. blasting my mind right now. It's a creature but.. mountable one, living equipment. That keyword would become quite funny in real magic. First in my mind comes an annoying goblin which would be "mountable" to a creature an opponent controls for something bad.. :D That's what goblins do best. So really nice hit in here!

But grats to you both! squire1 really got awesome cards for you this time!

Pretty sure myself that Dritz's ability is misworded. Wouldn't the attack trigger go off after he was declared, and the haste wouldn't matter, as you would be finished declaring attackers? Correct me if I'm wrong.

July 22, 2012 6:57 p.m.

aloehart199 says... #8

ummm anyone else notice the odd wording of "other attacking creatures you control get haste and doublestrike"? if they are attacking then isn't haste a bit wasted? Wouldn't it be better to just turn the card into a Fervor effect and drop haste from that line?

July 22, 2012 6:59 p.m.

darkhollow23 says... #9

yeah a few problems here, haste to attacking creatures is irrelivant and creatures cant be attached or equiped u have to make the ability turn it into an aura like the ithids. the last effect on dritz isnt a very WR effect and not sure what good flash is on him really take those off and lower is touphness and i think he could cost 5.

Mount is like a cross between Living Weapon and Totem Armor. Since Living Weapon is Artifact and Totem Armor is Enchantment then it makes sense that Mount would be creature.

Is no one else concerned that cavalry is misspelled?

July 22, 2012 7:08 p.m.

squire1 says... #12

Ok I see the problem with haste. I screwed that one up admittedly. I will reword all of that and repost is. As far as a creature can't be attached to another creature. The same was true of artifacts before equip. The golden rule in magic is that cards can do whatever they say they do. The only change I would make to mount is that the cracker that mounts it should have to be smaller than the mount. A dragon riding a horse seems odd.

for last ability being color relevant on dritz, see the isd/dka red vampires as well as card:Cathars' Crusade, Elder Cathar , Thraben Sentry  Flip , and Unruly Mob .

The abilities on the card are fine for the colors, its just some wording issues and changes. I think as he stands he should be a 6 cost max. up the power to 3 and maybe keep at 7 if you give him Fervor alongside his other abilities

I am. Can't spell will fix that too

July 22, 2012 7:10 p.m.

Jokernaught says... #15

I think the cost is great for both cards. Especially Dritz. The Mount ability could be refined.

July 22, 2012 7:15 p.m.

squire1 says... #16

In all fairness I design these on the fly so they are not refined designs. But I will fix the issue.

But congrats to the winners.

How does giving attacking creatures haste work?

July 22, 2012 7:20 p.m.

squire1 says... #18

alright fixed

July 22, 2012 7:31 p.m.

Dritz says... #19

Actually, interestingly enough, the original wording on the ability could have a theoretical use. (giving attacking creatures haste)

If you attacked with my card and, say, Hero of Bladehold she would give you two tapped and attacking Soldier tokens that would be affected by, at least, Battlecry, Haste, and Doublestrike. The part where that could matter is if you played something like Savage Beating which untaps your creatures, gives you another combat phase and the, now hasted, Soldier tokens could participate in round two instead of hanging around due to summoning sickness. I think that is pretty neat.

PaladinRyan says... #25

Perhaps I'm missing something but I think you mispelled the word Cavalry as "Cavelry." The word cavalry refers to mounted soldiers which I am almost sure was your intent whereas I don't think "Cavelry" is a word. I could be wrong but I felt I should say something. Awesome cards though; I love Boros humans and the mount mechanic is interesting. Congrats to the winners.

I love the cards, but you pointed out that horses should have trample, and Dritz is riding a horse. So technically shouldn't he have trample? Anyways, love the cards, and the mount mechanic is cool. Awesome!

Yeah! Give me trample! haha :P
