Dark Confidant is clearly the superior card. You don't see Bolas making waves in any format except standard (and only in fringe play). I think that naming Bolas the most powerful card in Magic is a mistake. Granted, I don't think that Dark Confidant should have this title either, but of the two, he is certainly more qualified.

I would also agree with jkarnes here. Neither of these cards should be the BEST MAGIC CARD EVER PRINTED. So many people have just started voting against the superior cards beecaus they don't like them, or they think they are unfun. I guess we can call this the most fun magic card ever printed xD.

Bob could never beat scion, that means he doesn't stand a chance against Bolas.

Dark Confidant is the better Magic card.

He is the only one of the two that is seriously worth playing. Bolas is a card in which you're forced to build around, and without it you're just screwed. While it's not exactly smart to put a card with high cmc in a deck with Bob, you don't need to make a "Dark Confidant Deck" Like you do with a "Nicol Bolas" deck.

@TheSeventhNinja - All I see are abilities that blow stuff up, or steal it. Assault and robbery. Bolas is a thug. He hasn't earned a nickname, and he even got reprinted. REPRINTED! IN A CORE SET! Epic cards don't let themselves get reprinted. :P

Bob is the cooler magic card. Bob has a good ability that can be played in almost any deck, bolas has to be built around.

Bob by far guys. This is a serious contest for what is the best card of all. I have to say Necropotence is that but here bob. If you somehow manage to get Bolas out the opponent is probably going to lose anyway. Bob burries people in card advantage and flips games, bolas is just the nail in the coffin. Its played heavily in Vintage, Legacy and modern. Three brutal formats. Bolas sees play in standard? A little but none in the most deciding formats. There is a reason it hasn't been reprinted! If you say bolas you obviously haven't seen bob in action and what it can do with just two mana.

I vote Bolas, here's why.

He takes control of Bob, using his ability to kill both Bob's new controller and his prior one, blowing up any lands that dare hit the field. Eventually, both players are weakened to the point where he can take control of them, too. I mean, he IS the Supreme Master of Everything, one of only 3 planeswalkers to have prior been creatures, he was responsible for pretty much a whole block, and can kill or take control of everything.

Of course, this was all part of the plan. He needed Scion of the Ur-Dragon to take out Black Lotus as a crowd favorite, then he could make it to the finals against only a weak enemy such as Bob instead of someone much stronger. Ancestral Recall would have been a much harder matchup.

Just because Bolas can Mind Control , for 8 MANA, let's not forget, doesn't mean that he won't die to Bob.

Bob: Hey what's this here? It's a Dreadbore ? I guess I can lose two life, to kill this big lazy dragon. Or, what's this? Something stupid called Remand ? Sure I will lose two life to counter a big thing, and get even MORE card advantage, even though I will probably win the game before they reach 8 mana.

You guys are all thinking as if Bolas has already hit the field, but chances are he won't, and he probably won't. Remember a card is good only if you actually get to use it. Using your guy's logic, Emrakul is the best card because its the most powerful in the game, but he also has on eof the highest cmcs so only if the game goes late.

I voted not based on the actual power of the card, but on how much I like it and how flavorful and influential it is. bolas is better because it ha more flavor and is more of an influence to the world and community than Bob. According to alpinefroggy's logic, Black Lotus should have won this, hands down. Also bob should never have beaten Ancestral Recall , jace would still be here, etc. Its a matter of who is liked more.

That doesn't keep bolas from being the worse card in a vacuum where we only compare use in a game on magic like we are here.

nowhere did it say that it was only in a game of magic. in fact, here is a quote from the very first bracket.

"Now you shall determine which card (or set of cards, since some cards seemed properly grouped together into a single entry) shall triumph in each matchup, and thus, which card shall emerge as the BEST IN MAGIC THE GATHERING. What makes a card "best?" Well, that's up to you. Maybe it's more fun, maybe it's got a higher power level, maybe its name is Counterspell maybe it's a card that means a lot to you personally, who knows? All that matters is that the end there will be only one. card. left. STANDING."

We can vote however we want, and if you choose to do it on power level alone, that's your choice.
