Awesome! I was hoping you would start doing videos soon as have found it difficult to follow it at times when I'm reading. Plus the constant explanation of your choices and logic is just awesome, so helpful!

@14:10, cast Gilded Lotus or Dreadbore moment, either play would have left you with mana for Dissipate , and I personally would have gone for Lotus, but I won't say it was a bad play by you.

Also, I love the idea of video DDoS! Just make sure you do still have text DDoS from time to time!

@ Caley: Youtube is about the only (important) thing that's blocked, since it would just take up too much bandwith that's neede otherwise if many people would watch at the same time.

Anyway, I'll definitely watch and I'm very much looking forward to it :D

i like both versions maybe you could try alternating between them or do both along side each other? either way keep up the good content always a joy to read

@Denial048 - Quite right. I'm used to not being able to cast counterspells off a lone Gilded Lotus because of Counterflux .

AWE MAN. I am unable to watch videos while at work as well, this was always a good read in between tasks at work.

It made things seem a lot faster than the reading things version. I'm good with either one though.

I do like the videos, but you do get lots of weak decks like this. I also noticed several obvious play mistakes, like in the first game, casting pillar of flame then guttersnipe. The videos make it a lot better to see the gameplay and board, and I never was able to track what was in your hand while reading, so good job on this.

I like the video dude, much easier to follow. Like others have said, it is a lot easier to track missplays and yoire hand. Sweet watch man!

P.s. since you're soing videos are you still gonna play my deck?

minor play mistake? in g1, when you played and flashed back your think twice, you drew a land and a counterflux, and it looked like you still had mana untapped for your drownyard. obviously not game-changing, but if your bolas didn't stick it might have made a turn difference.

i like both versions, but the written version allows us to feel the anguish of elaine banging her head against the wall after 7x slaughter games/mystic retreival/counterflux/barter in blood/etc.

Ok the bolas ultimate was the greatest thing every. I really enjoyed the video and I would support this being the format going forward for the random MTG:O daily dose but for the community decks I think I prefer the text based recap.

I thoroughly enjoyed this! I think having the video helps some players. like myself, hear why you choose to do things. For instance in game 1 you got the 2 for 1 with Liliana of the Veil , and you explained it saying you got the Guttersnipe and a burn spell with her. The devil's in the details, and you're dulcet commentary really helps understand the game of magic better, just a little better than text.

I really liked the video format. I was able to stream the video on my phone while I played League of Legends, and you narrating the entire thing was just awesome. Sure I lost my match because Magic is kind of way more interesting, but hey. Good job, Kaley.

Bummer, youtube is also blocked for me. I'll have to find something else to get my fix at work if these stay in video-only format.

I totally agree, people rage so hard when they can't win. Like they can't accept not being good at something that's meant to be fun.

I know, it's like they expect to go pro and make tons of cash because of a blind-pick game of 3's that doesn't really matter.

Question for KrazyCaley: In future vids, with community decks, will you have both you and Elaine voicing over your opinions and thoughts?

I do Prefer the text version, not because of the dullsome sound of your voice, but because i won't need wifi to experience the game.

I know there's probably a fair deal of work involved no matter how you set these up, so this may be asking a lot - but could it be video and text? As noted, many of us get our tubes blocked at work, but I would gladly go back to watch the vid later on after reading the play by play!

That said, excited to see a Tappedout game vid! (Probably on my phone when it's later on tonight, heh)

I can't decide if i like the text or the video more, the text seems more convenient, but the video seemed to lay things out better, and to get a better idea of what is actually going on through the entire game.

On a different note, the deck that you were matched up with was awful, and the player didn't seem to know what they were doing.

Overall, still enjoyed it!

After the Guttersnipe plus Goblin Electromancer I was like "Hey, maybe the opponent has an Epic Experiment deck, that would be fun!", but then it was just meh.

So, watching this was pretty nice, but I'd rather see a more interesting matchup, where you don't just super-stomp an inferior deck. You know, seeing the other deck put up a real fight and your decision making for that. The problem is that making a video episode and going against a random deck may or may not result in such a thing and after having recorded a match with commentary it probably seems to be a "waste" not to use it.
Whereas for the text form you could just skip over such matches and replay / write-up a more interesting one. But I guess it's also more work and time for the write-up.

Anyway, still a great thing them Daily Doses of Standards, keep it up - one way or the other :)

Yeah, this was kind of a bad deck.

One idea I might do is just record all the matches, but then only keep the good ones (like I ordinarily do for the text version), and record my commentary over it afterwards.

Loved te vid. I prefer this method. After some tinkering time you may even be able to record your paper card games and voice over after.

I lost it at "Have a Nice Day". That was the best.

I prefer the video version myself, but I do like how you get both pov's with the text version.

Much prefer the video version. I often get lost in amongst all the card links and trying to remember who has what out in the text version, loved being able to see the battlefield as it is every turn.

Absolutely love it. Shame you didn't get to live the dream (T5 Bolas) in that second game.

While missing the dual-POVs, I enjoy having a clear picture of current state and hearing the verbal thought process as you decide what to play.

I think I prefer the video version overall, though I do love to read your articles - the little bits of snark you slip in are always funny. You can do that while you're talking, too, though, and it's not like we won't see you writing still (I assume you can't very feasibly do Apprentice's Workshop and such as a video).

Getting both players' perspectives when you do a matchup with, say, Elaine piloting is always nice, though. Perhaps still doing those as text writeups and these as videos is the way to go; as an added bonus you get more variety that way.

The nuclear launch gag startled me at first. I was watching in full screen and thought YouTube was giving me ads or something for a second.

@KrazyCaley I really like the video format. Nice change of pace. Text version really lets me think about the play and what I would do, which is helpful, but your commentary is much more in depth, in the moment, and relevant to the given situation in the video. I look forward to more of either.

I think I prefer the text, but mostly because I can quickly go through it in a couple of minutes and get the whole gist.

The video gives us more commentary and a better view of the situation. It's easier to see the board, rather than remember what happened with the last turn.

The text format had more snark. And I miss that. It was also easier to review each play. Yes, that can be done via rewind, but it's easier with text. I also had time to look away, think about what I would do, then resume reading.

Wow, the video format really helps me learn Standard play actually! Being able to see your hand and the field easier coupled with your spoken thoughts is better for me to pick up your honed thought process and assessment of various situations, though I'm sure others better learn from it through the reading method.

Seems like you always lead with basic lands. If you have both a Swamp and a Sulfur Falls in your opener, wouldn't it be better to play the Falls first and Swamp second? That way you'd have a turn-2 Dreadbore if needed.

@zandl - Game 1 I go Drowned Catacomb to Swamp . I did that to show counterspell mana as early as possible. I didn't know what I was up against and wanted to hopefully instill a little bit of hesitation since I had nothing critical to do early.

Game 2 I play Mountain first, but that's because I have Sulfur Falls . Mountain lets Sulfur Falls come in untapped, and if I need to play the Dreadbore , I could just play the Swamp that I also have in hand.

I suppose it's just splitting hairs, but playing the mental game of Magic is just as important as flipping cards.

The number of times you can get 2 or 3 damage in on a bluff swing after a topdeck is actually pretty staggering. As long as it looks like you know what you're doing, your opponent will think twice before blocking what seems like a weak creature. Pretending you have a combat trick is hilarious.

The same goes for bluffing counterspells, though I usually just play my weaker threats into those to resolve my stronger ones later. If I know you have a counter either way, that's the best I can do.

MTGO costs $10. But then you have to acquire the actual cards, which tend to go for about the same or slightly less than their paper equivalents.

Except the pauper staples. It's common to farm pauper events to win in-game currency to acquire the more sought-after cards. Because of this, some pauper staple cards are almost as expensive on MtgO as sideboard staple rares, like Rest in Peace , for example.

Maybe you all should be working at work instead of trying to watch videos lol.
