I think we take the Adaptive Snapjaw and hope Shambleshark or Slaughterhorn wheels.

Pick Slaughterhorn . It's more versatile than the other picks. 3/2 creature or near giant growth.

February 24, 2013 7:24 p.m.

yousquiddinme says... #3

Shambleshark . It's the best card in the back in terms of mana cost. Adaptive Snapjaw s wheel all the time. Slaughterhorn and Shambleshark would never wheel.

February 24, 2013 7:24 p.m.

Goody says... #4

Which is more likely to wheel, Adaptive Snapjaw or Shambleshark ? There's also Arrows of Justice as possible removal...

February 24, 2013 7:28 p.m.

Rkynick says... #5

Pick Shambleshark , Slaughterhorn as a close second. Adaptive Snapjaw will probably wheel.

February 24, 2013 7:31 p.m.

theperson98 says... #6

Slaughterhorn . If you don't want to use it to evolve, you can bloodrush for cheap.

February 24, 2013 7:35 p.m.

Kravian says... #7

I'll say Shambleshark . My first thought was Slaughterhorn , just to boost our chances of evolving the shark, but a then I remembered this would be our 2nd, not 3rd, shark. A quick peek back shows that 5 of our creatures will always evolve Shambleshark once, and 4 can hit up a second evolution (provided we have enough on Gyre Sage to hit Nimbus Swimmer for 3x). I think that Adaptive Snapjaw could wheel. Until we tip too heavily into our 2-slot, we should still be grabbing Shambleshark s.

February 24, 2013 7:36 p.m.

Human_Rogue_21 says... #8

Shambleshark seems like it is your best bet... Not enough creatures for Slaughterhorn to be useful..

February 24, 2013 7:37 p.m.

AstroFalcon751 says... #9

I would have to go with either the Shambleshark or the Arrows of Justice .

Shark is surprise blocker. Justice for removal. Neither is likely to roll back around. I'm leaning more towards Arrows of Justice because of the lack of removal we have been seeing in our colors. Though I wouldn't be upset with the Shark.

February 24, 2013 7:43 p.m.

Spker says... #10

Shambleshark i love this abomination.

February 24, 2013 7:49 p.m.

Rewdog says... #11

We need more evolvable creatures. odds are Adaptive Snapjaw will wheel and it is not an evolver for us, it would be a trigger. Shambleshark on the other hand, is evolvable by Frontline Medic on top of being great for it's cost. Besides, Adaptive Snapjaw needs more toad.

Shambleshark

February 24, 2013 7:52 p.m.

cartwheelnurd says... #12

Shambleshark . Just a good card, and in simic we need as many of these as possible.

February 24, 2013 8:06 p.m.

dorminjake says... #13

The day I don't pick Shambleshark is the day I change the colors of my name.

So, uh, Shambleshark !

February 24, 2013 8:06 p.m.

cartwheelnurd says... #14

If we don;t get back the Slaughterhorn , Greenside Watcher , Simic Guildgate , or Adaptive Snapjaw after picking Shambleshark , then we are getting seriously cut. This pack will have something wheel almost certainly.

February 24, 2013 8:15 p.m.

apt142 says... #15

Slaughterhorn is pretty solid for it's cost and benefits. Honestly, I'm torn between it and Shambleshark .

The requirement for only one color on the Slaughterhorn makes it a better pick if we're going to splice in a third color. If we somehow just end up with green mana (or green/white) for the first few turns, he's still playable. Whereas the shark needs us to have a very specific drop pattern to get out early.

I'd be happy with either. But, I'm going to vote for Slaughterhorn .

February 24, 2013 8:39 p.m.

Shambleshark

consistency is a good thing, having multiples is more valuable than singles. as well the shambleshark has the more potential power than the Slaughterhorn . the snapjaw will probably wheel, and if not then the guildgate definitely will

Shambleshark if for no other reason than it's a hammerhead shark with arms and crab legs.

February 24, 2013 9:47 p.m.

vic says... #19

Wow, that last one was quick. I think we made a real mistake not taking either Simic Guildgate or Prophetic Prism when we had the chance. We're looking at splashing white now. That prism was exactly the card we needed for that. And that's 2 guildgates we've passed now. This may be our undoing.

February 24, 2013 10:29 p.m.

keilahmartin says... #20

agreed with vic

February 24, 2013 10:31 p.m.

vic says... #21

We need to take the Simic Guildgate here. I would like to respectfully suggest that the group put mana fixing at a higher priority. This may be the last simic guildgate we see.

Vote: Simic Guildgate

February 24, 2013 10:32 p.m.

keilahmartin says... #22

oh i just noticed we have a guildgate in this pack. Maybe we should pick it. I wouldn't be against that, for sure.

February 24, 2013 10:32 p.m.

Goody says... #23

Guys... mana fixing really isn't our top priority... Not only are there 10 more picks in this pack, there's a whole other pack waiting for us. In a 40-card deck, the chances of you getting mana-screwed are a bit less, and we already have one Prophetic Prism and one Realmwright .

My vote is for Shambleshark

I don't know what the big push toward Shambleshark is. True, I haven't drafted a Gatecrash Simic deck yet so I have yet to play with the shark but I have seen it on the other side of the table more times than I can remember and not once have I felt it to be any kind of serious threat and am not that impressed with it. The best thing about it is Flash and as it is only a 2-1 it won't evolve much else making the Flash on him pretty much a combat trick/removal to block and kill a 2 toughness creature coming our way. The Slaughterhorn is a better combat trick and had utility as a creature as well. I do like the Arrows of Justice as we could use a little more removal, and it will remove a creature of up to 4 toughness instead of just 2, but I'm not sure if adding more white is necessarily the way to go right now. Lastly, we cannot keep letting the guildgates go by otherwise we are risking letting a Gruul (or possibly a Dimir, although less likely) drafter take the gates from us for their own splash.

I guess what I am saying is that I am kinda divided between Slaughterhorn , Arrows of Justice , and the Simic Guildgate . I really don't think we take another Shambleshark right now, even though it looks like that is what we will be taking.

February 24, 2013 11:11 p.m.

MagnorCriol says... #27

My vote is definitely for Slaughterhorn . He's good as both a creature and a combat trick. That sort of versatility is super valuable. Shambleshark is good as well, and I won't be disapponted with that if that's how the vote goes, but the beast gets my vote here.

February 25, 2013 12:02 a.m.

My big question is: DOES ANYBODY REALIZE THERE IS REMOVAL IN OUR COLORS IN THIS PACK? Just wanted to point that out.

Arrows of Justice FTW!

February 25, 2013 12:05 a.m.

mossflower says... #30

Slaughterhorn seems like the safest pick here: not too color-intensive, can be used for evolve, and it's potentially a combat trick. Shambleshark is too hard to reliably get out early, and it doesn't seem that great for the late-game.

Voting for Slaughterhorn .

Shambleshark or Slaughterhorn . . . wow that is tough . . . the shark is a nice combat trick when played right, but the slaughterhorn has additional utility . . . gotta go with the shark though.

Vote Shambleshark

CyRRdaR says... #34

Both Shambleshark and Slaughterhorn are good creatures, the first can be a 1-for-1 combat trick, or just evolve to a 4/3 really quickly, while the second will also be a 1-for-1 combat trick, but if played as a creature, will remain 3/2 all game long.

Arrows of Justice and Simic Guildgate are both good choices too, but I would'nt go deeper in white for the arrows without additional mana fixing, and I wouldn't go for the gate over a powerful creature.

Regading the theme of the deck, I'd go Shambleshark , as having 3 or 4 of these beasts ensure stability and put early pressure on the opponent.

February 25, 2013 4:56 a.m.

CyRRdaR says... #35

Still wondering which colors the 3 previous picker are in, as there are really strong Boros, Orzhov and Gruul stuff here, along with good Simic creatures and a gate. Hard to read anything from this pack, or is it just me?

February 25, 2013 5 a.m.

CyRRdaR says... #36

I would bet on black common removals being picked, like grisly salvage.

February 25, 2013 5:02 a.m.

jkarnes says... #37

Arrows of Justice

Removal in GTC is light. Any ability we have of getting rid of creatures (even with restrictions) gives our evolving squad a better chance of getting in there. This pick will take the place of Massive Raid in the "Card's we'll probably play" and lets us justify playing a singleton mountain, or taking a Gruul guildgate (not to mention our Prophetic Prism and Realmwright ).

If not AoJ, then take the Slaughterhorn . You can be fairly certain the Snapjaw will wheel. (Also, getting more green creatures for the Ivy Lane Denizen is smart).

If we are playing evolve and going heavy there then Adaptive Snapjaw makes a lot of sense as it will evolve our entire board, and itself will be easily evolved by 3 toughness creatures which we should pick up a couple of.

That said i think we can get some of those later. I personally like the Slaughterhorn so much versatility. Its a combat trick and a solid dude all rolled into 1. 3/2's trade up and or can be a solid combat trick for 1. 2/1's with flash that require 2 different colors of mana don't excite me terribly which is why i am not voting shark.

lonewolfx says... #43

Slaughterhorn won't wheel, period, Shambleshark might, the pack's a very good one (every pick is a runnable limited card), so odds are actually quite high on this.

Definitely Slaughterhorn .

February 25, 2013 2:11 p.m.

TikiShades says... #44

I'd say either Adaptive Snapjaw or Slaughterhorn , though I prefer the latter. I'm pretty sure Adaptive Snapjaw or Shambleshark will wheel around, but Slaughterhorn is less likely to because its monocolored and versatile. Shambleshark is the wrong pick right now, because again: no one is going Simic, and no one would splash for it.

Arrows of Justice is a really nice removal card (an even better pick for our opponents), so we could definitely hatedraft it (and still use it). If it hadn't been for that Ivy League guy, I would probably pick it.

I think my vote stays with Slaughterhorn , because our 3-slot is getting a little heavy.

I'm not so sure that no one else is going Simic. We saw a Guildgate get nabbed from an earlier pack. The fish-crab may not wheel.

That said, I'm starting to come around on Slaughterhorn . It will evolve many of our creatures and it hits hard enough to trade efficiently. I will swap my vote from Shambleshark to Slaughterhorn . We will get something good from this pack when it wheels. Better to take the beefier creature now.

February 25, 2013 5:14 p.m.

Arachnarchist says... #47

@SupremeAlliesCommander: Agreed on all points. We should all bear in mind that Slaughterhorn can be played in Grueling and Simic and is therefore much less likely to wheel.

February 25, 2013 5:46 p.m.

ianlovell96 says... #48

My votes is for Slaughterhorn as it will more reliably evolve our other evolve creatures and can even be used late game as a giant growth

4+ pickables... I'm okay with Slaughterhorn , sure.

February 25, 2013 5:55 p.m.

Lotex says... #50

Shambleshark because as of now we have 2 Creatures with evolve. Call me crazy, but that number is a bit low.

February 25, 2013 6:24 p.m.

Goody says... #51

Yeah, I'm sticking with the shark since we wanna get as many evolve creatures as possible. I'd say a second Shambleshark is a must, possibly a third if we can snag it. Once we have that secured, Slaughterhorn becomes much more attractive.

Basically, we need creatures that will stick in order for the bloodrush to be effective, since we're losing a card by bloodrushing. As a creature the beast is okay, but not as nice as Shambleshark since shark becomes a 3/2 with a single evolve trigger, and can get even bigger.

February 25, 2013 7:15 p.m.

If we think that Shambleshark can wheel, then we need to pick the Slaughterhorn .

If we doubt that the shark will wheel, then we need to take it right away.

Thoughts?
