F10
F draws Cobblebrute. He attacks with Ripscale Predator and Spawn of Rix Maadi.
This is very troublesome. I can't just take this kind of damage, and I can't lose my precious lifelinking creature either. I could trade the warrior and the arrester for the spawn, but that would leave nothing to block ripscale. I think I have to activate the warrior, block the Ripscale with it and the arrester, and just leave the lifelinker for now, letting spawn through.
C activates Kraul Warrior and blocks Ripscale Predator with it and also Azorius Arrester. All those creatures die, and Spawn of Rix Maadi hits. (F 18, C 12).
Post-combat, F casts Havoc Festival with one extort. (F 19, C 11).
Augh.
C10
C gets havoc'd. (F 19, C 5). He draws Unflinching Courage and concedes. F wins the match 2-1
Can't gain life, so don't really have any answers at this point.
Results
Fisher def. Tappedout 2-1
E - "Fisher's deck ran well and Caley's deck had a bumpy mana ride."
Raynor def. C.J. 2-1
E - "Game 1, Raynor was super fast and CJ had nothing to cast because he had no green. Game 2, Rubblebelt Raiders. Game 3, CJ had a good late game, but Raynor did way too much early damage and a small Debt to the Deathless won it even though CJ was winning on the board."
Niko def. Chryssalid 2-0
E- "Game 1 was really even, but Chryssalid mulliganed to four at the start of it and those extra three cards won it for Niko. Game 2, Niko had a super fast hand that couldn't be beat, and Chryssalid couldn't live long enough to cast her wraths."
Ethereal def. Lee 2-1
E - "Game 1, Lee got Ethereal down to 4, but then couldn't do anymore and Ethereal had the way better late game. Game 2, Ethereal couldn't draw any blue. Game 3, Ethereal just sat behind a big blocker and Agoraphobia while building up his finishing late game."
Stay tuned for final results and interviews.

@MurasakiRose - You're quite correct! Man, lifelink and I really don't mix. I don't THINK it would have saved me to add that 3 life, but I certainly should have done so.

@KrazyCaley Not your first time you make the mistake, but it's fine, most of the time you made it, I remember it wouldn't have mattered a lot.
Great piloting anyway, I wish we would have headed the Draft an other way, but we'll get the next one.

Ethereal Armor gives first strike. In game 3, your Drudge Beetle was 3/3 and Fisher's Riot Piker bloodrushed with Skinbrand Goblin was 4/2, both first strikers. They would both die when you blocked with the beetle on turn 5.

@MurasakiRose - I know, that's what hurts about it. I really should know better.
June 10, 2013 12:15 a.m.
Yeah I agree with dcarpntr, both the Riot Piker and Drudge Beetle would die, which would've made a huge difference in game 3 I think

so many bad plays and missed mandatory triggers after reading whatever turn the trigger was missed on i stopped reading that game and went to the next one only made it to turn 4 game 1 and turn 5 game 3. it seems the only game we won was when we didn't misplay.

Yup, that Riot Piker would have dealt 2 less damage and killed one less Guardian of the Gateless since he would've died to Drudge Beetle with Ethereal Armor .

Did he tell you to thank us for passing him HIS ENTIRE DECK?!
Also, Havoc Festival is quite the beating eh?
Not bad caley, clearly you're not as used to some of these cards as others, but we all make more misplays than we realise. Having the game analysed is probably the best way to find them like this.
June 10, 2013 7:21 a.m.
Honestly, I re-read game 3 and the combat exchange between the beetle and goblin didn't make a difference. If they trade, we take 2 fewer damage on the next turn. Then Spawn of Rix Maadi
and Ripscale Predator
both come out one turn earlier, with Viashino Shanktail
still in hand.
Caley could put Unflinching Courage
on Guardian of the Gateless
and either go into attack mode in the air, but that plan get's shut off later by Havoc Festival
, which may have bought us a few more rounds. But did we have an answer to Havoc Festival
? We have Renounce the Guilds
in our sideboard, so no we did not have an answer. We were dead in a matter of turns. It was inevitable.
Or Caley stays back to block with Guardian and all the other dudes, just to get wrecked when Fisher bloodrushes on the creature that we blocked. And then we draw the 2nd Courage with probably none or only one creature on board and scoop anyway.
I don't see the outcome being any different no matter what. Our deck just top decked poorly for us at the end.
KrazyCaley: In my last post, I forgot to say thank you putting on another awesome DDD and going through all these games for us to read. It's extremely helpful to the community to improve our drafting skills, and it's a lot of fun! I really appreciate you doing all of these articles for us. Thank you.

First game: C draws Maze Abomination . He casts Pit Fight on the Pegasus and Goblin to kill the goblin. Then he attacks with the Pegasus and hits. (C 24, C 14).
You were at 21 before your turn: You should have lifelinked from the Pit Fight along with the combat step.
