If you missed round 2 of lands and instants, go back in the article series and vote.

Sorceries Bracket

(1) Time Walk

Time Walk easily handles fan favorite Warp World, as ruthlessly broken cards crush fun once again.

vs.

(8) Yawgmoth's Will

Winning by only one vote against Tooth and Nail, Yawgmoth's Will is a worthy challenger to Time Walk in terms of broken-ness.

(6) Tinker

Tinker had no problems with Maelstrom Pulse, which drew an unfortunate matchup against the artifact-fetching, oft-banned six seed.

vs.

(4) Armageddon

Armageddon came from behind to beat out Tendrils of Agony by one vote. I was going to say that Tendrils of Agony stormed to victory; had that pun all ready, but then Armageddon had to ruin everything, JUST LIKE ALWAYS.

(14) Bribery

Cinderella is here, as Bribery crushes Mind Twist to advance.

vs.

(5) Balance

Balance, which used to make people tremble in fear back in the day, easily pushed past Banefire.

(7) Wrath of God

The all-mighty Wrath nearly goes down in the first round to strong challenger Vindicate, but has just enough sauce to win it.

vs.

(2) Demonic Tutor

Tutor crushes the venerable Rampant Growth with almost unanimous support.

Enchantments Bracket

(1) Survival of the Fittest

Sterling Grove stood no chance.

vs.

(9) Oblivion Ring

Trailing by a small margin the whole game, Oblivion Ring turns the tide at the last moment to edge Rancor.

(11) Fastbond

The incredibly-broken Fastbond had something to prove to the seeding committee after being labelled as an 11, and it proved it against Phyrexian Arena.

vs.

(4) Moat

In one of the best matches of round 2, Moat holds off a powerful performance from Grave Pact to advance.

(3) Necropotence

No contest against Recurring Nightmare.

vs.

(5) Sylvan Library

The Library has a worthy opponent and kindred spirit in both its defeated foe, Future Sight, and its new matchup, Necropotence.

(7) Mirari's Wake

Much love expressed for the defeated Control Magic, but in the end it was no match for the double-mana-giving buffer.

vs.

(2) Land Tax

Armadillo Cloak is a great card, but in the end, we know that auras probably stand no chance, especially not against the Tax.

This article is a follow-up to March Magic Madness - Round 2: Lands and Instants The next article in this series is March Magic Madness - Round 2: Creatures and Artifacts

Time Walk - Easy win.

Tinker - Gave it a slight edge.

Balance - Although Bribery is an awesome card, Balance out shines it by a land slide. Literally.

Demonic Tutor - Not even close.

Survival of the Fittest - Thought about this for a while and realized that this could be savagely abused by many different decks.

Fastbond - This was an awful matchup. Fastbond would kill Moat in any game. Not sure how Moat even made it to Round 2, let alone Round 1.

Necropotence - Quite an amazing match-up! This was a very tough decision, but I gave the edge to Necropotence for the fact that you can use it's ability as many times as you want, where Sylvan Library , is only at your Draw step, still an awesome card, but Necropotence got the edge.

Land Tax - I thought this was an odd match-up but still had to give it to Land Tax for all those times where mana is the only thing you need to start winning. Mirari's Wake is cool, but Land Tax is to hard to pass up.

Thoughts: I think the Sorcery and Enchantment brackets will come down to the following in the final round with the winners being:

Time Walk vs Balance = Balance

Necropotence vs Fastbond = Necropotence

@Human_Rogue_21, you think that Balance is better than Time Walk , why?

It's just my opinion. I think Land Destruction is cooler than Extra Turns. I will be happy if either of them win because they are both undoubtedly great cards.

  1. Time Walk no contest
  2. Tinker
  3. Balance simply has the edge
  4. Demonic Tutor
  5. Oblivion Ring some of the best removal in the game
  6. Fastbond No contest here
  7. Necropotence
  8. Land Tax

  • Yawgmoth's Will : no contest. I'd rather do everything twice in one turn than once over the course of two turns.
  • Tinker : no contest. I'd rather tutor a wincon than blow up everything in defense.
  • Balance : no contest. I know I'm going against what I just said, but you shouldn't pay more than 3 for a tutor.
  • Demonic Tutor : I sound like a broken record, but no contest. Actually, my justification for picking Tinker works here perfectly.

  • Survival of the Fittest : no contest. I'm a combo player; I'd rather tutor than remove.
  • Moat : Meh, I don't landramp.
  • Necropotence : no contest (You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means). Pay 2 life for 2 cards, or pay 8 life for 2 cards. Also, black wins.
  • Land Tax : Both cards are kinda "meh" in my opinion, but at least Tax has a legacy.

  1. Time Walk wins because one of the early playtest versions of the card said "opponent loses next turn"
  2. Tinker wins because it makes the game end in a much more exciting way
  3. Balance wins because it's one of my favorite cards ever
  4. Wrath of God wins not just because it's powerful and I like it, but also because time has shown it to have been an inherently good and balanced design

  1. Oblivion Ring wins because it can do so many more useful things
  2. Fastbond wins because it's a more exciting card
  3. Necropotence wins because it's another one of my favorite cards ever
  4. Land Tax wins for pure power reasons

Sorceries:

  1. Time Walk is the best magic card ever.
  2. Tinker is one busted card. Turn 2 Blightsteel Colossus is really dumb.
  3. Balance is really, really unbalanced.
  4. Demonic Tutor puts a CARD in your HAND. For 2 mana.

Enchantments:

  1. Survival of the Fittest is really good.
  2. Moat is just the business.
  3. Sylvan Library is really cool, and because Necropotence is unfair and dumb, yeah.
  4. Land Tax is super sweet.

Sorceries

  1. Time Walk - Tough match, down to personal preference
  2. Tinker - It wins games. There's a reason why it's banned
  3. Balance - Another tough match, but it's better to play a card that gains power from your deck instead of your opponent's, imo
  4. Demonic Tutor - Why hurt yourself when you can just hurt your opponent?

Enchantments

  1. Oblivion Ring - Could be personal preference, but this wins by a large margin for me. Jace, the Mind who?
  2. Moat - Infinitely more frustrating and more fun to play with than Fastbond , which is broken in the right deck. No one ever accuses Moat of being broken.
  3. Necropotence - No fight
  4. Land Tax - One of the few white ramps, and for only 1 mana

Time Walk: not really all that close, considering this is what most constructed matches are about.Armageddon: While tinker is fairly strong, ld is a favorite of mine.Balance: As badly as I want to vote for bribery, this isn't really all that closeDemonic Tutor: Also not close, finds an answer to any specific situation, not just creatures like WoG.EnchantmentSurvival of the Fittest: Broken beyond all get out, against the fairest card on the list.Fastbond: Gush bond is a real thing, makes this one also not all that close.Sylvan Library: Beats Necro because you don't get sylvan locked like you can get necro locked. Also triple black really hurts.Land Tax: Repeatable shuffle effects are super powerful, this one is no exception,

  1. Time Walk b/c booo graveyard shenanigans.
  2. Armageddon good luck getting that tinker out with out any lands
  3. Balance both cards are terribly wordy.... so when in doubt of ties due to horrid wordyness go w/ the non blue one.
  4. Demonic Tutor hardest matchup so far... but i went w/ it b/c it finds stuff!
  5. Oblivion Ring killing things rather than some wordy green bs card.
  6. Moat strong defense and did you see the number of words on that green card?
  7. Sylvan Library both rediculously wordy but i hated a lot of wordy green cards so far so it gets the nod.
  8. Land Tax cuz ramp in white why not!

Yawgmoth's Will because I'm aparently a huge fan of upsets.

Tinker , because it's less unfun to play against.

Bribery because I dislike LD.

Wrath of God gets the job done.

Oblivion Ring Spot removal is so good. SOO GOOD

Fastbond was involved with the first combo deck I'd ever seen.

Sylvan Library is neat.

Mirari's Wake is a bloody powerhouse in Commander.

  1. ...Fine, Time Walk can have a vote from me.
  2. Tinker - Wreck this fun, Armegaddon.
  3. Bribery , I choose you!
  4. Demonic Tutor - Anything you want, including dead guys in thongs.
    -------
  5. Survival of the Fittest - That is one unhappy Mogg.
  6. Fastbond - I think it's been well proven that players will gladly pay life and bits of string for better mana.
  7. Necropotence - If one's going to pay the life anyway...
  8. Land Tax - There's something about mana fixing and emptying my deck of dead draws at the same time that I just can't turn down.
