Creatures Bracket

(0) Storm Crow

(No matchup here, just, you know, Storm Crow.)

(1) Tarmogoyf

Narrowly edging out Baneslayer Angel in one of the closests 1 vs. 16 battles. Tarmogoyf was laughed at when first printed; no one thought he was any good. But then it turned out that he kind of WAS good.

vs.

(8) Dark Confidant

Robert easily marches on past Mistbind Clique, but will he stand a chance against the mighty Goyf?

(6) Eternal Witness

Clone seized the early lead, but Eternal Witness came back to win by a comfortable margin.

vs.

(4) Stoneforge Mystic

In the battle between standard format monsters, Caw Blade's Stoneforge Mystic easily handles Alara Jund's Bloodbraid Elf. Now Mystic will be tested against a creature of longer standing and wider appeal.

(3) Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

Fun fact - the Eldrazi were inspired by the Great Old Ones of H.P. Lovecraft.

vs.

(12) Mother of Runes

Psychatog, aka Dr. Teeth, was no match for our dear mother.

(7) Birds of Paradise

The ProteinProtean Hulk, despite its fame as a critical part of a turn 0 win, was no match for the fixing ramp of the birds.

vs.

(15) The Titans ( Sun Titan - Frost Titan - Grave Titan - Inferno Titan - Primeval Titan )

A surprisingly weak performance from Morphling lets the Titans through to face another old-school creature. Perhaps players these days do not appreciate the incredible power of Morphling, or perhaps Morphling has just not aged well due to the removal of damage on the stack.

Artifacts Bracket

(1) Black Lotus

Even the popular Howling Mine is no match for the Lotus. Fortunately, the difference in price between the two is only about $2,800 or so, so they're pretty interchangeable, really.

vs.

(9) Aether Vial

Vial walks all over affinity staple Arcbound Ravager, but now it is up against The Most Coveted Card in Magic.

(11) Winter Orb

In the battle of incredibly unfun cards, Winter Orb gets the upset over Time Vault.

vs.

(4) Skullclamp

In the battle of "drawing really unfair amounts of cards," Skullclamp does NOT get upset by Memory Jar.

(3) Sol Ring

Chaos Orb's real victory was making the bracket in the first place.

vs.

(5) Umezawa's Jitte

All of the equipment moves to the round of 64. Now we'll see which of these two oft-used EDH cards is king.

(10) Mindslaver

In a close match against Mana Vault, Mindslaver, with which there are at least three ways to take all of your opponent's turns for them, emerges as the victor.

vs.

(2) The Moxen ( Mox Pearl - Mox Sapphire - Mox Jet - Mox Ruby - Mox Emerald )

The Moxen easily take down Larry Niven's Disk to advance. Will sentimental love for Mindslaver see it through, or will the sheer overpoweredness of the Moxen win by force? Let's find out.

No one wins that first one because the wonders of the Internet have completely run the joke into the ground, obliterating any and all funny it may or may not have had

  1. Tarmogoyf wins because it has that special kind of power that can go in any deck able to cast it
  2. Stoneforge Mystic wins because of the huge impact she's had on every format she's been legal in
  3. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn wins because he's a more exciting card
  4. Birds of Paradise wins because that art was supposed to be for Island , but just had to have its own card made for it

  1. AEther Vial wins because I would argue it's actually had a stronger impact on the game itself and how it's played
  2. Skullclamp wins because blistering speed is better than the lockdown
  3. Umezawa's Jitte wins because it's just a more powerful card
  4. The Moxes win for the same reason as Skullclamp , above
March 25, 2013 4:55 p.m.

1) Dark Confidant - Merely because i like it more

2) Stoneforge Mystic

3) Emrakul, AEons torn -

4) Birds of Paradise - It lets you play the titans faster.

1) Aether Vial - Show me a deck that plays Black lotus, and ill show you a guy with too much money on his hands.

2) winter orb

  1. bob - best chance to beat goyf imo
  2. Stoneforge Mystic b/c equipment fun is fun
  3. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn the biggest bad of them all ever anywhere ever printed to kill you IN THE FACE!
  4. Titans easily over some dumb green bird that can't even attack for dmg.
  5. AEther Vial b/c i hope that black lotus doesn't make the final cuts
  6. Winter Orb cuz it is evil
  7. Sol Ring most awesomestest artifact ever... so awesome i made a new word to describe it
  8. Mindslaver hard to loose when you get to play your turn and their turn!

bob and goyf and pretty much equal to each other. In a lot of decks they are played side by side but at the end of the day Dark Confidant is truly broken and goes way over the top. Something that goyf just can't do.

Birds of Paradise*

Black Lotus

Skullclamp

*Seriously? Why is this even a debate? Birds costs one, ramps into Titans as well as other stuff, has history, got played in formats other than Standard, is a staple in nearly every deck that can play it for those formats... Shall I go on?

Storm Crow - No need for words.
1. Dark Confidant - I'm feeling lazy today, so I'll go with the easier count-ability.
2. Eternal Witness - Still biased, still Warping.
3. She Who Tears the Aeons is hard to protect against.
4. Birds of Paradise - Morphling would have put up a better fight.
-------
1. Black Lotus
2. Winter Orb - Bears, etc.
3. Sol Ring - Just who do you think paid for that equip cost?
4. The Moxen would be much better as rings, for the sake of perpetuating Niven puns.
